    Hi all,
    email from dealer:
    2016 honda civic ex-t
    msrp: 23,035
selling price: 20,000 (includes acquisition fee of $595)
    Doc Fee: $80
    License/Title: $261
    Tire/Battery: $8.75
    Tax on collected items: $202.61
    LR3 LEase Protection: $895
    Vehicle Theft Registration: $399
    Total Cap: $22,534.04
    Down: $3500
    Net Cap: $19253.03
36 Month Lease (35 month payments, 12,000 miles)
    Payment: $218.99 including tax

So I asked them to remove the LR3 and theft Registration (which they complied).
Which they said brought payment to $177.

These numbers don't add up for me as the total cap is not the sum total of the previous fees and selling price etc. I feel the payment should be lower.

Also as I was going to sign the pink lease paper and seal the deal I notice that the selling price of 20,000 did not include the acq. fee on the forms they wanted me to sign. Which meant the selling price with acq. fee is actually 20,595 instead of 20,000 including it. Well I ended up signing them even after the last minute price bump however I do not take delivery of the vehicle till Friday so I can still back out and get my deposit back.

    .00048 and 59% for 36/12 on EX-T. $500 lease cash.

We do not recommend making a down payment on a lease - that money is lost if the car is stolen or totaled. Only pay for non-taxable government fees and the first payment at signing, and roll everything else into the cap cost.

Those two junk fees would have added about $36/mo to the payment, before tax. Good to have them removed.

If I adjusted the total cap to remove the junk fees, I get a payment of $229/mo before tax.

Have the dealer provide you the adjusted cap cost (inclusive of the acquisition fee, but less the two junk fees). Then we can figure out what the payment should be.

So long as you haven't taken delivery, I think you can re-work the paperwork.

I was told that the 3,500 down is required because I am a first time buyer with 0 credit. Is that true? I find so many inconsistencies in this business.

    That may be possible.

Reach out to other dealers; you may find that the competition between them will make your potential deal better.

Could you give me the MF on 2017 civic sedan ex-t? Sorry but what does $500 lease cash mean? Thanks!
  • jesusdelaojesusdelao Member Posts: 8
This is what the dealer emailed:
"The total cap cost was $21,242.85 and the Net Cap was $17,919.53." So this should be the same as above however without the junk add-ons but plus $565 acq. fee.

    Please ask 2017 questions, here:

The $500 lease cash is a factory-to-dealer incentive.

Thanks Michaell, yes, it is the sedan. Here is the deal I have put together thus far. 2016 Honda Civic Touring. MSRP $27,335. Sale Price $23,500 if I purchase tomorrow. Sign and drive. Although I qualify for military $500, I haven't told the sales person that yet. What are the questions I should be asking?

I get $276/mo, before taxes, with those prices.

Find out the adjusted cap cost - if this is a sign and drive lease, then all the fees and such will be added to the selling price.

    Thanks again Michaell,

Here is what his response was...
"Yes all weather mats, the adjusted cap cost would be 23,500 plus the first months payment, license fee and all weather mats. All those are rolled in, the first month payment and loaf fee is what is added to sale price.I don't have the exacts as I'm working off my phone but it's all simple math and nothing hidden, only thing you won't see in the adjusted cap cost is the acquisition fee of Honda which is $595, Also $250 doc fee. I don't believe that shows., but is in on every Honda lease. I'm planning on going in around 1045 tomorrow as I have a few appointments, let me know what time you would like to come in. "

Those two costs will add $23-24/mo to the payment, pre-tax.

    Hi,
So I signed a lease for a civic ex-t. The price of the vehicle agreed upon through email was $20,000 including acquisition fee. Long story short most other factors running smoothly when I get to finance they try to slip in the acq. fee on top of the $20,000. So the car price was not 19405 as it should've been. Well I haven't taken delivery of vehicle yet and am confused if I should let that pass?

Also initially they said they required a down of $2,500 because I have no credit score but then responded a few hours later apologizing and how the required down is really $3500 and sorry for that mistake. I am not sure how to proceed, although I signed lease forms I can easily get my deposit back.

If you haven't taken delivery, you should be able to unwind the deal.

The acquisition fee is mandatory, but if you've negotiated a price with it included, the dealer should honor that.

Regarding credit, it is possible that a lack of an automobile credit history will require a larger down payment.

I would suggest you reach out to other Honda dealers; you might find one that is more accommodating to your needs.

Went into local dealership in Tampa Bay Area and was offered an EX-T W/o Sensing

    MSRP: $23,572
    "Sale price": $20,072.00
    Taxable fees: $181
    Predelivery service charge: $995
    Non Tax Fees: $423.50

    Net Price: $21,671.50
Trade payoff: $800 (Last 4 months of current lease) - this should be ~$660 realistically
    Balance 22,471.50

    Quoted payments at 36/months 12k/yr

    $331+tax w/ $0 Down
    $301+tax w/ $1k down
    $272+tax w/ $2k down

    Same car/numbers with 36/months 15k/yr
    $343+tax w/$0 down
    $301+tax w/$1k down
    $272+tax w/$2k down

This seems a little high, base price seems good and I know the $800 makes an impact as well. They were not offering any pull-ahead specials right now but may get something closer to the end of the year since my lease is coming to a close?

Also worked similar numbers on an EX that came to $239/mo with 2k down but for a little more than $1 per day seems like it could be worth upgrading. I have until April to make a decision but just wanted to get a feel for what pricing would be like.

Current Car is 2014 EX CPE @ $168/mo after tax. 3yr/36k, only put 2k down but I think Honda in Colorado was offering much better incentives/sale

I agree that a $1000 dealer fee is ridiculous, but just add it to the sale price and negotiate from there. The real price is $21,067. If you get hung up on how they parse it out, then you are playing into their hands.

If you are driving your current vehicle for $168/mo, you are nuts to trade out of it early, to pay over $300/mo.

Thank you. Need some advice. I have 2 payments on my current Honda lease. I could get a 2016 EX now, and roll in the last 2 payments or I can wait until February. But do you think they would have decent numbers on the 17 then? I am trying to decide if I would get lower payments now or later? Thanks again.

I agree that nearly any lease @ $300, especially for the same car, a small jump in trim is not worth a $300 lease. It's been a few years since I worked the last lease deal, but at the time I had $1500 Equity in my trade, +$500 down to get it to the ~$160 mark after tax I know my sale price out the door on it was under 20k

I was just testing the waters, in no rush since I do have a nice low payment lease atm.

Hard to say, really. At some point, the inventory of the '16's will get low enough that Honda will stop supporting them. And, Civic's are pretty popular, so we can't predict when (or even if) the numbers will get substantially better.

I was in the same boat over the summer. Had two months left on my lease, and traded out into a new brand (went from a Hyundai to a VW), because inventory was shrinking and the deals were really good.

    Every situation is different, however.

Hello, I want to lease a 2016 civic LX w/sensing for 36 months, 10k miles/y. Since I've been in U.s. for only 15 months, and my credit score is little above 650, the local dealership try to total the cost to a crazy number like $12000. Is that true for a short credit history? What number should I expect? BTW, I have a stable income for at lease 5 years. The lease is definitely affordable.

We only have the money factor for top tier credit. It's .00048 MF.
Rates can go up quickly for scores under 700. Your short time in the US will be a problem. I don't see any way around that.

    Hey Everyone,

I am pretty new to the car buying/leasing experience, the last few days have been a lot of research. I am looking to now lease a 2017 Honda Civic EX and here are the numbers one of the dealers gave me for a breakdown between buying and leasing.

    2017 Civic EX
    $21,975.00 MSRP
    $20,677.00 Invoice
    $19,988.00 Transaction price.

    LEASE:
    36 month term
    $688.00 out of pocket
    .00075 money factor (1.8%)
    $275.76 per month

    I believe the residual is 62% at 13,624.50, that's for 12k/36 months.

I want to do a 36 month terms, would residual for 15K be 61%?
How about the residual for the 2016 model for each 12k/15K?
I am also confused on the difference in the Invoice and Transaction price. what is the difference? Which one do I should to calculate my monthly payments?

Also, does that Money Factor seem fair? btw, I am residing in San Jose, CA.

Hello, are there any updates on the Touring? Last I checked for 36K/12 it was:
    • .00048 MF
    • 54% Residual
Does the $500 lease cash work for the Touring? Thanks!

.00080 MF and 60% residual, assuming you qualify for top tier.

To calculate a lease payment, you need the MSRP and selling price.

I got this 2016 Honda Civic LX Automatic with no options during the end of year sale
    MSRP:20275
Cap cost: 17981 (with 595 acquisition fee included)
    Downpayment incl 1st month: 1083
Downpayment includes $500 recent grad cash and 583 from my pocket
    Residual: 11962
    Monthly lease payments:167 + taxes = $182 every month
    No other deposit
I was told that my MF was 0.00048 and residual was 59%
    Lease term: 36 mos
    Miles:12k

    Did i get a good deal ?

Actually I figured out after i signed my lease that the lowest the dealership could go was $177.53 a month with the same down payment and $500 grad credit - if it were to help somebody .
This was in an LA suburb - West Covina

    Hi Michael,

New Jersey - MF and Residual - any lease cash:

    2016 Honda Civic LX,EX, Touring - 36 months, 12k miles year and 36 months, 15k miles year
    2017 Honda Civic LX,EX, Touring - 36 months, 12k miles year and 36 months, 15k miles year

Thank you!!! Thank you!!! Thank you!!!

Helping sister in law with lease - she would be happy with a 16 or 17 LX/EX but Im looking at a few 2016 Tourings MSRP 27,335 -- Invoice 25,444.

She would like payment around $225/month 0 down sign and drive.
Looks like we would have to get the sale price to around 22,500 to even come close.
Probably looking at 16 or 17 LX correct?

    .00080 MF on both years.
    2017 has $350 lease cash
    36/15 residuals (add 2% for 12K/yr)
    2016: 56% for LX/EX. 53% for Touring
    2017: 60% for LX/EX. 55% for Touring

For the 2016s to lease out, they'll have to come with big, big discounts.
No way she will touch a Touring for $225/mo, either way.
