Invoice is $26,526 and TMV is a few hundred more than that in NYC. So your $25,800 selling price is okay at $700 below invoice.

You might do better if you travel a bit or wait until the end of the month.

But then you have to travel or wait. :)

Be worth it to get some NJ quotes. Don't think PA dealers are that aggressive.

I never hear anything about the Newburgh dealers but that may be an option.

    thanks.

I noticed that some previous posters have shopped in NJ. Can someone provide me with an updated price with CRV EX in NJ and recommend some dealers?

Hi I just bought a 2016 EX FWD white with no additional options in SoCal.

    Base Price: 24500
    OTD with 9.5% tax 27,200

Is this a good enough deal? hoping I didn't get rip off >.<

Invoice is $25,309 so you beat that (and TMV) by $800. Good enough indeed. :)

    Congrats!

Any other SoCal buyers lurking? Sounds like Accord prices may be falling in California per this post. Seems like the deals have been so-so there on Hondas but maybe the numbers are starting to get better?

    Hi Steve,

This is Manny from SoCal. I am in need of a 2016 CRV Touring Model. I was quoted $29,995 before TTL from a local dealer here in Los Angeles. Is that a fair price given the current market? Or should I wait until the end of the month and see if I can get a better deal? Thanks for your help!

Following up on my 2016 CRV EX AWD with no options.
I just purchased my car. Bought it from a NJ dealer, OTD $27500 (with NY tax 8.875% ).

Hi Manny/@caddymanny, I'm seeing invoice of $31,019, TMV of $31,623 and MSRP of $32,995. That TMV average is bothering me still for SoCal - seems like the average price paid is well over invoice, unlike some other parts of the US.

So your quote is $1,000 below invoice. Sounds good to me - this could be a trend (?) with more inventory or spring doldrums or who knows. The general rule of thumb is that you do better at month end, but there's no guarantee (dealers can make quota early and sit back if they choose too).

I'm guessing you're looking at the FWD btw.

Short answer - more than fair.

Thanks for the reply back Steve. You are correct this is for a FWD. I have until April 30th to make a decision so I'm going to check with other dealers closer to the end of the month and see if I can a get a better offer. Thanks again.

I have an offer on the table for an EX-L AWD. MSRP: $30,695. Invoice: $28,819.
My price: $27,125 plus $399 doc fees. I have that price at two dealers, the second adds a Lifetime Powertrain Warranty. How much is that worth?
Should I pull trigger or wait until closer to month end? I need a car by about May 20. So my timing is flexible.

I'll let @stever comment as well, but the $1595 for the "protection package" is a big rip off. What does it cover?

Also, the $699 "predelivery service fee" is a lot, too - but, common for Florida. Between the two, that's almost two-thirds of the discount they are giving you.

Yep @priya123, lot of junk fees in there.

TMV is $31,107, about $600 below invoice. So the quote before the junk is good....

If you're in the panhandle or north of, say, Lakeland, you may want to shop quotes in TN, GA or Mobile.

    @stever thanks.
i don't understand how is it 31,107 as he quoted me Adjusted Price 29,395.00

Also can you help me with what best OTD number I can expect on a CRV touring?
I am trying to get 31500 OTD with dealer options
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454

$31,107 is the average price paid. So you're doing better than the average with the "adjusted price" quote. That's good.

What's not good is the protection package and doc fees.

To get your OTD number, figure out what a good selling price is, add in whatever your taxes are, add in any title and registration and environment fees, and that's your OTD number to shoot for. Your state DMV or revenue web site may be able to help you figure out the required taxes and fees.

I got offered for CR-V 2016 LX AWD with OTD $25000.
    Indiana (7% tax)
including freight the car price was around $22,600.
Should I take this deal or lower it a little more?
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
Hey @mkang_88, always nice to see people cross-shopping makes and dealers.

Invoice (with destination) is $24,420 so this offer is almost $1,800 below invoice. That's better than we usually see - the usual range bottoms out around $1,500 below invoice, or often it's more like $500 to $1,000 off.

I wanted to let others know that multiple internet offers can be good.

We just purchased a 2016 Honda CRV EX-L AWD Urban Titanium with beige leather interior in Greer S.C.

    These are the events.

    1-MSRP $29745.00 plus $900 destination fee = $30645.00.
    2-Invoice $27919.00 plus $900.00 destination fee and $115.00 advertising fee = $28934.00.
    3-Edmunds TMV $28042.00 plus $900.00 destination and $179.00 advertising fee = $29121.00
4-Dealer in Greer S.C. contacted us through Edmunds and offered us the SUV for $28186.00 (including destination) plus a $349.00 document fee for a total of $28435.00 plus tax tag and title including the Honda lifetime power train warranty .
5-Dealer in Greer also agreed to the following prices on accessories including installation.

    Remote start $447
Mud guards, rubber mats, rubber cargo mat $251
    Hitch and wiring harness $581
    Body side molding $229
    Vent visors $208
    Moon roof visor $155

6-After accepting offer from Greer dealership and waiting for car to be delivered to dealership I heard about another website and registered for offers from it. I immediately received an offer from an Easley S.C. dealership of $28033.00 (including destination) with no document fee and included mud guards, rubber cargo mat, wheel locks and nitrous in tires plus tax tag and title excluding the Honda lifetime power train warranty.
7-I called the Greer S.C. dealership back and gave them the new price I had received from the Easley dealership and they agreed to deduct the $349.00 document fee. We bought the SUV from them instead of having to re-negotiate the accessories with the Easley dealership and since the Greer dealership had been so co-operative and friendly.

    Bottom line:

$28186.00 (including destination) plus 3% tax of $845.58 plus $69.00 tag and title plus $1871.00 for installed accessories plus 3% tax of $56.13 for accessories for a net total of $31027.71 at 0.9% APR for 36 months.

$748.00 below invoice and $935.00 below Edmunds TMV.

Hope this helps other buyers and thanks stever for having this forum. I only started looking at other sites for quotes after reading some posts here and it helped me save an additional $349.00.

Hi, this is a great forum. What can I expect to pay for a 2016 CRV EX AWD (without navigation), in the Boston, MA area? Thanks!!
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
Welcome @rileyliz690 - Invoice is $26,526 and TMV is $100 less than invoice.

Since TMV is an average, it'd be nice to get a quote $500 to $1,000 off invoice. I don't think dealers near you are as aggressive as the ones in VA, but it's getting to the end of the month so deals can be had.

Keep us posted on how your quotes look.

TMV is $31,107. Add about $2,000 to that for TTL and your average OTD price would be $33,107.

So this quote ($33,000 OTD) is about $100 less than average.

Saturday is the end of the month. I think I'd "sleep on it" until Friday afternoon and then make a counter-offer of, say, $32,000 OTD and see what kind of response you get.

If the dealer doesn't budge, I'd step back - maybe go shop the CX-5....

I'm shopping and scratched Buick's off my list because the local dealer here automatically puts so many junk fees on their cars. If they do that when you are buying, imagine the bills you're going to get when you need service.

Hello! I have a quote back from a dealer on the EX AWD.

Honda North (Danvers) - quote came back within 5 mins. of my inquiry

    Internet price quote is $24,771

    Plus:

    $385 (doc fee)
$140/170 (MA plate transfer fee) (I assume they're including the registration in this fee amount?)
    + 6.25% MA tax

Their quote seems pretty good. What do you think? Thank you again for that info!

Still waiting to hear from Kelly Honda (in Lynn)

I'm going to a different Honda dealership on Saturday with a friend who used to work there. Should I email the sales rep to get a quote in advance or wait until I get there and see if they'll beat the quote(s) I get?

    Many thanks!
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
Does look like a good quote, around $1,800 below invoice and TMV. Mass continues to surprise me.

I think I'd make it easy - email the rep and tell them who your friend is and invite them to beat your current quote. Could save you a trip or you may get an even better deal.

And yeah, you do have to pay attention to the fees a bit, or at least the out the door price. Some dealers try to sneak stuff in.
  • rileyliz690rileyliz690 Member Posts: 6
Thanks so much for your advice! I agree with you and curious to see what the rep has to say. I have the feeling he thinks it will be an easy sale with the usual inflated sales price. Surprise! ;)
  • rileyliz690rileyliz690 Member Posts: 6
After some back and forth, I FINALLY got a quote from the rep. who didn't make it easy. Was actually a pretty annoying process, but I did get a quote. I think it's a good quote.

$24,321 (includes destination, sticker, gas). He didn't note fees. I emailed him back to get his doc fee amount. No response - yet. No surprise.

I took the advice of many car buying websites and got preapproved for financing with my credit union, so I'm all set with that.

What do you guys think of his quote? Wish he listed the fees, but I'm sure that's where he's going to try to get me - Not! ha! I know I'll obviously be paying tax and registry fees, but what other fees are mandatory? Thanks again for the advice! I'll keep you posted.
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
You're doing good. The magic words are "out the door" - so when he comes back with the fees, you can total it up and ask him if that's really the OTD cost.

Good going on the financing too, but invite the dealer to beat it. Often they can (they make their money packaging the loan and they don't much care about the interest rate).

Did I got a good price for 2016 CRV EX AWD? In bay area, CA. The selling price before tax and fee is $24835 without option. With tax of $2365, plus car registration, document fee, etc. OTD is $27595. The color is not my 1st choice color. I just saw someone in Dec. got the car priced at $24000. I did not negotiate the price hard as I just told the dealer the quote I got. Then they do not have the color I wanted. So they beat by $150. Maybe I should read this discussion board first before took the deal.

TMV is $30,922 (a little bit below invoice), so you are making progress. I'd say your selling price is really $29,600 since the Dealer Fee is at least $500 too much. But that's Florida. :'(

The Tag Fee sounds higher than average too (we say the typical DMV fee in FL is $181).

This quote is better than average, but only by $300 or so it seems. But that's Florida. :'(
