    Got a quote in Eugene, OR (97401) for a 2016 CR-V EX-L AWD:

    $28,500 (selling price)
    $388 DMV/Doc Fees
    No sales tax in Oregon
Brings the OTD quote to $28,888
    TMV is listing $29,115.

Definitely felt like there was still some room to improve the price when we left the dealership.

    What do you think Stever?
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
As you saw when you ran the numbers, TMV is very close to invoice.

Since TMV is an average, your $28,500 quote is about $400 lower than invoice/TMV. So it's better price than what the average buyer is getting.

You're an educated shopper, and we're starting to wind down the month. So yeah, I think your feeling that there was some room to go lower is correct. Maybe cool your heels a few days and then counter with $28k even OTD?

    Got a quote in Bay area California for a 2016 CR-V EX-AWD

    Selling price:$26,488 with destination fee

    TMV:27718

    OTD is ~$29400

    Does this look good, Stever?

For your market @chemi007, yeah. You're ~$50 below invoice.

My impression is it's a tough buyer's market. My wife went to school in Berkeley and my mom lived outside your area in Antioch/Stockton years ago, but it's such a big area, I dunno, and I sure don't claim any expertise in your region. Prices may be better in Oakland or down in San Jose (I used a San Fran zip for my look-up numbers).

You might do a little bit better waiting until this Friday or Saturday and hope the dealer needs a few more sales to make their monthly bonus numbers.

    Good luck!

@tarheel101, is it AWD or FWD model?
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
    edited January 2016
@tarheel101, invoice on an AWD is $28,934, with the TMV average coming in ~$200 more.

For the FWE, invoice is $27,717.

So you're either $1,000 or $2,000 below invoice. Good either way and that's not counting the extras you got.

The dealer made their profit with that $600 doc fee.

    Congrats on the new ride!

Ariens30....I purchased 2016 CRV EX-L FWD. Thanks Stever. I always have second thoughts after the deal whether it was good. But it sounds like it was! Thanks.

We've seen plenty of deals pushing $1,500 off invoice around DC. And some people have reported as much as $2,000 off invoice. Most of those deals were for the 2015s but I'd take that $28,500 quote and shop it around.

in Around DC what is the price I can ask for 28 200 OTD is Good Deal..?

What's the selling price KM? (I don't keep track of taxes back there - it's bad enough having to send my taxes that direction!). Actually, a full breakdown of the price, taxes and fees would be helpful.

Invoice is coming in at $28,819 (including destination of $900). TMV is $28,370 for a Herndon zip. Since TMV is an average, you can see that some people are getting $1,500 off invoice. So your target should be around $27,3000 before taxes and fees.

hello.. i have a 2016- Honda CRV Touring AWD MSRP $34,295 and i am getting this at $ 31,400. (Taxes etc., are extra). also i am getting slapped a $500 documentation fees.. is this normal? i have put in $500 deposit and am waiting for next sunday to pick it.. pl. help with feedback.

True Market Value is $31,920 (that price includes the $900 destination). Some buyers in some parts of the country get some more off that (TMV is an average).

The $500 doc fee is "normal" and common. It's also a rip-off. Anything over $50 is a rip to me.

2016 CR-V SE AWD, no addons in Texas MSRP$26,745 Price quoted $25,100+TTL. Is this a good price? Thanks in advance.

Invoice is $25,319 and TMV is just $25 more, for a Houston zip code. That number includes a "legit" ad fee of $150.

So your quote is a little better than invoice without the ad fee. You could shop it around but I doubt that you're going to beat that number by much in TX.

    Good luck!

(The $900 destination is included in invoice and TMV above btw)

The Honda dealers in San Antonio are more aggressive than the ones in Houston. No idea about Dallas. But Houston is a bad place if you're looking for a deal on a Honda.

Good info. My limited experience with El Paso is that the dealers in general aren't especially aggressive, but a little better than here in Las Cruces.

DFW area, 2016 Honda CR-V EX-L FWD with NAV
    Dealer Price 28196.00
    Tax 1832.74
    Lic & Reg: 187.25
    Doc Fee: 150
    Drive Out: 30365.99

Is this a good price ?
  • carmnkeycarmnkey Member Posts: 4
sorry missed the zip code, it is 75039, TX
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
I'm seeing that same $150 ad fee for a Dallas zip code, making invoice $27,752, with the destination included.

TMV is $28,065, so your price is just average. Hard to call it good, but as noted above, there aren't many good quotes in Texas.

If nothing else, tell the dealer you aren't interested in paying for their advertising - that should come out of the rest of their usual overhead. Good luck!

@stever, Is this TMV for the EX-L with the NAV ?? or the NAV does not make much of the diff in the price ?
I am getting complete diff price http://www.edmunds.com/honda/cr-v/2016/st-401582890/options/?legacy=true&zip=75039#step2

Okay, I'm seeing TMV of $29,497 vs your quote of 28196.00. Now we're talking.

Looks like you are in $1,000 off invoice territory and that's good. Enjoy the new ride (I trust you'll do just fine catching any math or other errors at the dealer too. B) )

Got a quote near Boston MA, 02452 for CRV EX AWD
    selling price $24035
    doc $299
    plate $140
    sales tax 6.25%

    OTD should be around $25970

    I think I am lucky :)
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
Yeah, very nice. Invoice is $26,526 (and TMV is close to that), so you have a great quote.

$2,500 below invoice must be the record for a 2016.

Let us know when you wrap it up - hopefully you won't have any surprises in the F&I room when you go to pay.

Figured I'd add our experience as a data point.

2016 AWD EX in mountain air, Kansas.
    OTD $20,700. Tax extra.
Trade was valued over 5,000 but it was inflated from what it was worth to make numbers work on their end. Other offers on the trade were in the low 3k range.

I think we did fairly well.
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
Congrats @thepaul500! Thanks for reporting in.

    How'd I do?

Invoice is $31,019 and TMV is $31,798.

So you're well below average and your doc fee is decent. You done good. B)

    Hello Guys,
I am looking for 2016 CRV EX-L AWD, I live in MA.

The best quote i got with OTD price is $29,100.

One more dealer said, he will give the same for #29000 and cut a check for $200.

Am i good with these rates or is there a room to negotiate.

    Thanks.

Invoice is $28,819 for the AWD EX-L and TMV for a Boston zip is very close to invoice. I'm not sure what the TMV spread is for coming up with that average price paid, but you're definitely on the right side of the bell curve. Well, I guess you are on the left side of the curve. :)

Sounds like a great market up there (for consumers) and it sounds like you have some aggressive dealers seeking your business. Good place to be.

    Enjoy!

2016 CRV EX AWD in Little Neck, NY.

$25,977 not including tax and dmv charges.

    No trims.

Is this a good price or did I get taken for a ride?

  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454

Invoice is $26,526 and TMV is ~$50 more. MSRP is $28,195 (all numbers include destination).

Not as good a number as the recent Boston area number above but still $500 below invoice. Sounds like a good enough deal to just be happy and start enjoying the new ride. :)

If you're still shopping and want to grind a bit, getting a couple of more quotes might save you a few hundred bucks more. May not though.

TMV has come down a few bucks since we last talked - it's $28,363. That's ~$500 below invoice.

Your $26,900 selling price is ~$1919 below invoice. Well below the average price paid in your zip code.

    Sounds great to me. Enjoy!
