It's funny, as MB seems to have a broader model lineup there than here - more E engine variants, SWB and LWB S, B, and maybe more. Less option variety, with more standard features - very much like MB offerings in the UK. And with the CDN $ right now, the cars there are actually cheaper than here (at least pre-tax). Strange. I see a light-medium blue for the E that isn't even offered here. It's pretty bizarre, I wonder about the logic or reason behind it. You could be right about the E550, as the only B we get is the electric, a real hen's tooth.

A couple of weeks ago I discovered that Kia offers a completely different lineup for the Soul model here in Canada than it does in the US, and has different colors as well. VW and BMW also offer different color choices inside and out for their models between the two countries, although in those cases it is a far more restricted set of choices being offered in Canada, as one might expect with it being a smaller market. M-B's case is interesting in still offering the E550 here. Perhaps it is due to fleet fuel economy averages or some such, as they sell the B-series here which might make room for some thirstier models at the other end of the range.

Have seen a few B series MB down here in South Florida all with Canadian plates on them. The only exception was a used one at a local lot. I did like the little sucker and it would fit me well, but right now, am happy with what i got and see no reason to swap out again so soon. To get me to trade, the newer vehicle would have to really blow my socks off and be such a good deal, it would be crazy to pass up. Right now, there is no such vehicle and to be honest, healthwise, just don't have the strength to go looking.
The Ft. Lauderdale car show starts today, running through Sunday. Have no plans to go as of yet but if the oldest comes down, think we'll all check it out. She's about to hit 80K on her Versa SL and might be looking to trade soon. So far, it's been a great vehicle with no issues. She's fine with the CVT and lack of get up and go but advised her to look beyond the Versa Note as her next ride. So many great small vehicles out there with up to date tech, which she desperately wants. And if I were her, I'd go for a small turbo with a regular auto tranny this time.
All I can do is help her look and then negotiate...it's her cash so it's her ultimate decision.

Visited the Vancouver auto show today. Oddest thing - MB wasn't there. In a city that I used to think had the highest amount of S-class per capita in NA, the make was absent. I suspect there's some kind of disagreement going on, as it isn't like this region isn't full of the make.

Some things in my memory: I sat in a CT6 with a 101K CDN MSRP. Nice car, but that's a spicy meatball. They also had base 4cyl one (so they made one, anyway) that was maybe 25K less. There was a big Buick concept sedan, roped off. All of the RS Audis were locked, which is funny as one could sit in Maseratis and BMW M cars. Saw a Lincoln Continental and an Alfa Giulia on stands, roped off. Saw a Fiata on display and one on the road. New Chrysler Pacifica had people swarming it, but I think Canadians have always liked Mopar vans. Honda display had a motorcycle and 4 wheeler in the mix, which interested me more than the cars - same for a new KTM dirtbike in a Colorado (no hint as how they got it up there). Lexus had some kind of little IQ sized thing with a predator face, roped off, and a concept convertible. BMW had a lineup of nice loaded cars - dark blue M6 GC with polished wheels and porcelain interior was striking, New Infiniti coupe is memorable too, like a toned down Lexus. Some new model Lambos in a special display drew a crowd, along with the recent Maserarti supercar. Also saw the new Volt and a Bolt. And lots of other stuff that doesn't come to mind right now.

Wasn't there a TV detective show some years back with a mustached heavy set guy that drove something like that? Can't recall the name though.

The Cannon Lincoln must have had a special "handling suspension":

His car was silver (though it looks more like a light metallic blue most of the time) with a black vinyl roof and a red interior. I have the first 3 seasons of the series on DVD.

They must have hired stylists from Subaru :D Must be after the upscale Grunge market.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,446
There's definitely a target market for that thing, but it's not affluent old grungers. It's neck and neck with the X6M.
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
    What IS that market exactly?
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,446
Brash overmonied dopes and dbags, and their children. This is the new Belle Epoque, there are plenty out there.

New style Prius, what a looker.

couple houses up, they just bought a new Murano (in black). Certainly interestingly sytled.

and around the corner, saw someone pulling into the driveway in a newer looking Maserati coupe.

Seeing quite a few new MB GLC's lately. I liked the tying of the outgoing GLK a little more, this one is kind of anonymous. The AMG Version coming looks pretty sweet tho.

Neighbor just got a new Volvo CUV today. Saw it in garage with temp tag. Have to get closer to see if it is a 60 or 90. Not sure which car they got rid of (a 2009ish 5 series or a boxy pathfinder). I'm guessing the Nissan which probably has a ton of miles by now on it.

I spotted my first Scion iA in the wild yesterday. It was......um.....interesting looking.

The 2016 Scion iA turned now into the 2017 Toyota Yaris iA is...unusual looking to say the least. I didn't like the front when I first saw it but do now. With this car it's the whole package that makes the car stand out as both a bargain for the money paid and a whole lotta car for the money. Push-button start, 7" entertainment screen, backup camera, accident avoidance detection, great Bluetooth connectivity, 31 city 41 highway and all of the Mazda greatness that a great carbuilder like Mazda can put in to a car. I honestly wouldn't be doing backflips over this car if not for the Mazda connection.

I wanted a 2016 Mazda 2 hatchback and it's here as an expensive 2016 Mazda CX-3. I'm sure it's a great hatch but its about $26,000 and does not come in a MT. Eliminated! No longer in the race.

Honestly - I may just hold on to my '11 Kia Soul 5-speed base in clear white and just mile it up. If just the right wild hair should bother me I'll go trade for a '16 Scion iA or a 2017 Toyota Yaris iA. If I don't do that I'll look for an unbeatable deal on a new '16 Kia Soul 6-speed. I honestly think the Kia will be every bit of car the Scion/or Toyota is/will be. They're neck and neck! In fact, just holding on to my '11 Kia Soul 5-speed wouldn't be a bad choice. They've all gotta be inexpensive and great cars. I believe in holding carmakers to the highest standard without needlessly throwing too much money at 'em.

Keep 'em honest. B) I mean, I don't call gasoline ghastly for nothing. I don't hypermile, though. Give it good ghastly - feel the rpm whirrrr....no hypermiling from this Seattleite.

Saw a new style 7er today, this one had black trim (no doubt a $3800 "individual shadowline" option or some such German marketing verse), and via this, was pretty difficult to tell from the prior one - you can't see the hockey stick.

talked to my neighbor today (that just got a new Volvo XC90). Asked how he liked it. Siad it was nice but he only drove it once. His wife (her car) apparently loves it. He kept her old Pathfinder and traded his late 00s 525i BMW because he liked the truck feel and sitting high better (plus has a lab, so easier to tote around).

Funny thing he said is they have to take it to the dealer tomorrow. Nothing wrong with it, but there is so much tech, his wife has no clue how to do anything, and needs a tutorial. So they are going back for training!

I would if I were them - some salespeople are sharp and others aren't, though. Hope they pick a winner!

Saw a blue Model X today, maybe the same one from the other day. Also saw a GLE63S coupe at the dealer - if your X6M isn't douchey and obnoxious enough, or if you have some "cleaned" money proceeds to blow, we have the car for you.

Saw a new Malibu today. Looked like a base model. Would have had more wow factor if the Fusion hadn't been introduced in 2013.

No, not nearly as radical as the early ones, which I'm told, could make babies leap out of their strollers.

That reminds me, now Land Rover is coming out with an AWD convertible that evoques memories of the Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet.

Just like a Wrangler but the soft top won't rot away in three years? Quite a bit more comfy too I suppose.

People aren't going to spend that much money for something that homely. At those prices, they can buy some very tasty ragtops. Sometimes automakers out-niche themselves.

It looks terrible, but is at least 10 X as attractive as the Murano Cross-Cab.

Wow, I had a friend of mine back in high school who drove a bright Yellow LTD of the same generation. Called it the "Terminal Tank" because A. it WAS a Tank and B. it had a Terminal issue with stalling. I remember back in 1990 or so going with him to drop it off at the junkyard.

We drove in, parked it and then left in my car.

Ironically, he then bought a used 198_ Hyundai Excel which he named "Terminal Termite". Termite for it's size, but no Terminal issues for at least a 150k that he had it afterwards.

New body style Chevy Cruze (2017?).

Sportier than the last model. Not necessarily better looking, but will probably appeal more to the entry level demographic. Definitely catches your eye.
