I don't quite see the big deal. It look like a Pontiac G6 clone to me. Same chassis, same engines, only slightly cleaner style.

Everyone is so into this "euro" look but it just isn't all that different from a G6. Where is the substance? It's a G6 in a tailored european suit.

But it looks much better than any other cars from Saturn for that matter. ;) So for Saturn or GM I think it si a big deal.

It's definately a stronger contender in the mid-size class than GM has had:

    The good:
    - The interior is nicest ever on a Saturn and is a million years better than a G6
    - It's got clean styling and is somewhat distinctive

    The bad:
    - No 4 cyl option
    - Inflated price due to no 4 cyl option
    - Front fascia is a little bug eyed and love it or hate it
    - Rear looks like a current gen Status sedan

It's not the class leading world beater that the General's loyalists claim but it's a major step up for Saturn.

New CR-V... In a lighter blue metallic color...

Looks pretty good going down the road.. Didn't notice the underbite at all, though this might be more of an issue standing still..

This one had a roof rack and step bars.. From the pictures, I thought I'd hate the D-pillar treatment, but that didn't jump out at me, either..

I don't it will be any more or less popular than the old model, from a visual standpoint. It is generic enough that it will probably gain as many admirers as it loses..

1st - I also got to see a new CR-V on the road. It kinda looks like the Becca to me.

2nd - I saw a car on the way into work today that looked like a Toyota MR2 / Lotus Elise, but it had T E S L A written across the back and a little shield under the name with a T in it. Boy was the thing quiet and fast. It was very nicely done.

You just saw one of the new Tesla elecric cars based on the Elise. It is a pure electric car, that's why you didn't hear any noise from it. Chck out this month's Automobile mag to get full detailsonit.

News-hottie, Natalie Morales from the Today Show had a segment with the Tesla roadster last week. That sucker did 0 - 60 in something like 4.5 seconds and it looks stunning doing it. It did break down on them due to clutch issues though and they mentioned that there were still some buge to work out. But man, what a cool little roadster. If I had the 100 grand asking price, I'd be willing to trade my S2000 for one.

The L series was bland, I guess. I did like the Vectra that is was loosely based on, though, with the side mirrors that blended in to the front hood. My brother owned a Chevrolet Vectra in Brazil, that's what they were called.

So Aura is better than the L series. Ion is still awful and needs replacing ASAP.

Man what are the odds of seeing a Tesla around. I think they have only made three or four of them.
  • odie6lodie6l Member Posts: 1,173
It did have NEW YORK Plates. We get A LOT of rare cars where I am with Carlisle being kinda close, but more so because of Hersheypark and the Stadiums. It was probably a hockey players car, there was a Hershey Bears game that night.

a new Camry, on the dealer lot, with a stick shift! Not an SE, but a 4 cyl base car (pretty well equipped, but still base).

I will go back and visit it at Xmas, maybe Easter too.

At least Honda makes the shift lever/boot/knob look stylish and expensive. The one in the Camry was an all rubber monstrosity that looked like it came out of a 1984 Dodge COlt.

  • anythngbutgmanythngbutgm Member Posts: 4,277
Yeah, unfortunately, Toyota doesn't really take the stick shift seriously :( which is one of the big reasons I think keeps Lexus away from being an actual BMW competitor (Amongst other things but still...)

I bet the shifter action is sloppy, the clutch is spongy and the manual would be a penalty rather than a pleasure. Toyota probably just slaps a couple together just to keep the price down...

I know a couple of guys that played minor league hockey and I am sure that none of them could buy a $100k car! Plus most of them wouldn't fit in a little Tesla.

    Very sweet sighting though

I saw a Z8 this morning... I know they are pretty rare but I swear they must have sold 90% of them in NYC. you definitely see them around
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,415
Yeah unless one of those Bears had an NHL contract, they are likely making under 75K per year. I hope people who make that much refrain from buying 100K cars.

Right now I am out in the sticks in rural eastern WA...my C43 is by far the most exotic thing on these streets.

...New Dodge Charger in Philadelphia Police livery. This is the first time I've seen a Philadelphia Police Charger.

That Charger won't catch your Caddy when she's running on 94' Ultra and a 104 octane booster. :shades:

In our garage, someone here at work must have bought one.

Still not digging the underbite, but an easy refresh would address that.

  • rockyleerockylee Member Posts: 14,017
Did it have 22's ? :shades:

    Rocky
  • lemkolemko Member Posts: 15,261
No, it had the stock rims. We've got a young guy who just started in my office. He has a 1995 BMW 325. Somebody asked if he put aftermarket rims on it and he replied, "no." In fact he said it was stupid to spend so much on rims and they messed up the handling of the car anyway. Seems there's hope for the youth of America after all!
  • british_roverbritish_rover Member Posts: 8,502
Yeah but you can get factor 22 inch rims on the Escalade now...
  • rockyleerockylee Member Posts: 14,017
Yeah british_rover, is right. The Escalade was designed straight from the factory to accomidate 22's.

I guess perhaps of my age, find nothing wrong with DUBS on vehicles. It just sets the vehicle off in appearance IMHO. :shades:

They have been purchased by a lot of the livery companies as limos. I saw 4 black extended versions parked in a row outside my building just now. They are freaking huge. Once I took the older Escalade from Vancouver to Whistler with 7 people including the driver and ski equipment. It was useful that day but I can't imagine any other time you would want one.
Utility and size are great but you have to consider how often you need it vs how often you will look stupid driving a bus around for basic errands.
I have no real issue wth Dubs on trucks but they don't really do it for me... Loved the scene at the end of CARS with the tricked out hmmer taking the off road class!

Spotted a C55 in a parking lot at the hospital. Gotta give the nod to MB for a timeless design with the current C-class. Looks-wise, I find the MB elegance more appealing than the flamin Bimmer.

The C55 looked pretty badass. :D

NYC... But I love the Van City
  • boomchekboomchek Member Posts: 5,516
I love this place too. And because there's so much money in VanCity (especially Richmond), Beemers and Benzes are dime a dozen, and so are many other exotics or high end cars.

Saw 4 2007 CRV's in 45 minutes this morning (NNJ). A black EX, a silver EXL, a light blue LX, and a navy blue EXL. EX and EXL models were driven by women, the LX by a guy. It's a lot wider then the previous model - at least it looks it on the road. The profile is pretty bizarre up front, the hood sticks so much further out then the grill that it almost looks like there is a piece of grill missing. Otherwise it looks like a pretty nice upgrade.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,415
I remember back in the 90s Van was MB W140 S-class heaven, you couldn't toss a ball without hitting a dozen of them. I am sure there are some nice older low mileage cars languishing away too. Van is a great Mercedes spotting place...I still recall I spotted my first C36, W210, W208, and my first C215 there.
  • boomchekboomchek Member Posts: 5,516
Porsches are so common here too, you see at least 2 or 3 a day(seen the Cayman a few times already, Cayanne once a day usually). I see Maseratis a few times a month, Ferraris a couple times a month, and Bentleys here and there.

Lambo is probably the rarest, maybe once every a couple of months on the road. :P

What's sad is that I'm not the one driving them.

Down here on the east side of Seattle, I get to see everything. If a week goes by where I don't see at least a Ferrari and a Lambo, it is unusual. New money needs recognition of the passerby here.. I've seen an Enzo, SLR, Carrera GT etc. MB dealer is less than 2 miles from me too, so I get to see those. I wouldn't mind driving them...but I like what I drive, too.
  • boomchekboomchek Member Posts: 5,516
Never seen an SLR or Enzo on the street myself, but seen a few Muricelagos, Gallardos regulars and Spyders

2007 Chrysler Sebring. Kinda chunky-looking four-door with pinstripes on the hood.
  • anythngbutgmanythngbutgm Member Posts: 4,277
Was what appeared to be a Nitro! Are these things on the market yet? I thought it was still concept, but lo and behold, on the lot next to a row of Magnums was a deep red one. I wish I had my camera.

This was also after hours so the dealer was closed.

...spotted a new black Mitsubishi Raider crew cab pickup truck last night. It kind of looked like what the "Bat Truck" might look like if Bruce Wayne was a rural superhero in Gotham County. Isn't this truck really a Dodge Dakota underneath?
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
    Just a clone, yep.

Remember when Raider was a name Dodge used for a Mitsubishi Montero 2 door clone? Things have come full circle.

A wholesaler pulled up in one today. Blue with tan leather. Must be the third I've seen since they came out. Not many of them around.

I think that Raider is pretty good looking and probably a better deal than a Dakota. A couple of days ago, I saw one of the Isuzu rebadges of the Colorado. It's got some numeric name that escapes me now, maybe 7000-something?

Being that the Isuzu and Mitsubishi offer better warranties than Chevy and Dodge respectively, why not go for the rebadge?
  • andre1969andre1969 Member Posts: 26,023
I saw a new Saturn Aura parked out in front, in a spot where one of the secretaries normally parks. She had a light green Infiniti I30 which, strangely enough, I quit seeing in the parking lot the next workday after an identical one rear-ended me! At first I thought it might have been this secretary's daughter driving her Mom's car or something, but then I found out that the secretary's car just ended up needing a cost-prohibitive amount of maintenance/repair work done.

So I'm guessing she dumped it for the Saturn. Overall I think it's a nice looking little car, although I still think it looks an awful lot like a facelift done to a 2001 Stratus. This one was a nice dark blue and had the 3.6. It also had that interesting burnt-orange/brownish looking leather interior. That interior color is interesting. Something about it just seems kinda high quality and almost a bit nostalgic, like something you might find in a 1953 Cadillac convertible.

Might be tempting enough to warrant a look the next time I buy a new car.
  • andre1969andre1969 Member Posts: 26,023
I've never seen a Raider on the streets, only at auto shows. However, I'll agree that it's a pretty good looking truck. I think I actually prefer its style to the Dakota!
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
At least until GM went to a 100k powertrain warranty. ;)

The i280 and i350 don't get much attention, I bet a lot of folks haven't ever even seen one.

At the NY Auto Show, Isuzu gave out free folding chairs to the press, it was the only way they could get enough people to show up for their press release. :D

I skipped it. Subaru was next and I wanted a front-row seat.

Doesn't Isuzu offer a 7/70 bumper to bumper warranty? I'd take that over the 5/100 with 3/36 bumper to bumper. Less than 5% of the population drives 20k a year. I don't even drive 10.
  • anythngbutgmanythngbutgm Member Posts: 4,277
Isuzu was at 10yrs/120k! miles a few years ago. Goes to show that a long warranty doesn't always solve your problems...
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Will they even be around to honor that warranty, though? GM may have to do it for them.
