well, pretty sure he looked non stop, even when he had the V Sport.
a WRX might be fun. Not sure what the wife will think. Guess I will just tell her I am looking at the smaller model Subaru. She won't know the difference.
I am going to have so much fun test driving next year!
nyccarguy, I most definitely am not enjoying the VW. Yeah, I always look, but when I had the CTS, I was never really tempted or anxious to make a switch. The only upside right now is the fuel economy and the fact that it is not depreciating.

So, I turn in the Hyundai, pay the damages (I don't think she sees this part yet) then wait 6-7 weeks and score an amazing deal. I'm just not convinced I'll get that great of a deal then, compared to now. Plus, the costs of walking away, including the disposition fee.
well, there will be plenty of VWs a few months from now too. and continued large incentives to keep them moving out the door.
also, if you do just eat the costs, you will have a much easier time negotiating a "clean" lease deal. Remember, that $225 including all your payoffs. so take the trade out, and looking at what, $200? $175? In theory, the lower payment should offset your lease end OOP.

Just different pockets to the VW dealer.
The "clean" lease deal has the payment at $209/mo with tax. So, only tacking on $23/mo to get out of the Elantra ($828 total - not bad when there are close to $2000 in charges to deal with).
They are motivated to clear out the 2016 inventory, which is shrinking by the day. Don't even know if the blue ones from the other dealer are even available.
2017 lease numbers for the Jetta SE are .00050 and 55% for 36/12 (2016 numbers are .00005 and 51%, along with the $1750 lease cash, $1000 bonus cash and an extra $500 bonus). They are selling me the car for $50-60 under the Edmunds invoice price, before the incentives.
Doubt I'm going to see $3000+ in incentives on a 2017 in 3 months.
Assuming the sticker price is the same, the 4% bump in residual translates to about $800-900. And, a higher MF as well.
I'm still trying to figure out how @breld got $166/mo for his daughters Sport - granted, that's with 10K, but that's only a 1% difference. Residuals have been higher on the Sport than the SE, but there is a higher price, as well.
Argh. Me thinks the wife is cutting off her nose to spite her face on this. She's convinced that the deals will be the same in November. I suppose I should look to see what features the 2017 has that the 2016 doesn't.
Give me a sanity check here, guys. Is this really an average deal, better than average, or pretty good, all things considered?
I'm still not emotional about the car, but having moderated the lease forums for the last couple of years, I'd like to think I can recognize a good lease deal when I see one. My payment is about 1.1% of the MSRP, including the Elantra charges - the rule of thumb is 1% of MSRP is a pretty good lease payment (though we don't really talk about it in those terms in the forums - we just say that "relative to MSRP, you've got a good payment").
Sorry for the rambling rant. It's late and I can't seem to let this go.
It's not that I'm in love with the Jetta - it just seems like a really good deal and gets me out from under the Elantra without too much penalty.

I think it's a really good deal on a nice car and the fact that they are going that far to get you out of the Elantra makes it hard to pass up for me. Prior to joining the BMW bandwagon I never went with the same make back to back so I completely understand the itch to try something different. Jetta is a great looking car too and I'm a big fan of the blue. Consider yourself enabled

Bradd....I like that one, too. I like the the X1s (thought about buying one when the Caddy was going sideways). I like the color, in and out. Mileage is decent. Fun to drive. Certainly much faster than the Subaru.

I never thought we would get Shakespeare involved in these conversations. A "petard" was a small bomb used to breach the walls of a fortification. Very primitive/sensitive and apt to go off prematurely. Quite often the person charged with planting the petard would be blown up by the device. Thus he was hoisted by/with his own petard, in his attempt to harm others.
The actual word "petard" is believed to come from "petar", a french word meaning the explosive release of gas from the intestines. You all know the word we use for that. Hoisted by/with his own petard has a rather humorous meaning when used in this context. Shakespeare did have a fine sense of humor.

I don't know how breld got that lease either. I'm paying $225/mo on my sport (36k). Sign and drive, but I paid the tax, tags, dealer fee up front. Roughly. Was $1,000 at inception, then 35 more payments.
I think your deal is fine, especially with the mess of losing the GT. Once you have it, I bet the wife likes it. Then over a bottle of wine you can explain how much money it is saving you!
Next time, get something you actually want though. I plan to.

If we drank wine, that would work.
I told her this morning, it's $800 extra over the next 36 months or $2000 at one time when we return it.
We had a 2017 X3 loaner for the last few days. The 4-cylinder turbo is way faster than the inline 6 in our car. Also, comes stock with 19" rubber vs. the 17" on our 2011. Those wheels look great, and you can't really tell any difference in ride, but I can't imagine the replacement cost (RFT).
This Royal Leasing guy should start paying you commission for all the advertising you have been doing for him. Have to say, his cars look very clean unless he's hiding a bunch of NJ rust somewhere. And that Overland would make someone one hell of a Northeast winter beater too.
I wonder if the owner lives in that culdesac or if the residents there get tired of him taking pics in the same spot every day.

Cars don't rust that badly here in NJ, at least where Stick and I are. My 04 MGM hasn't a spot and hasn't been garaged and has seen salt. We don't get lots of the white stuff so the instances of salt are fairly low.
I was stunned when I removed the crappy chrome wheel lips I had no problems.
no, I don't get commission. It is close to me, and I know the reputation, and he tends to have very clean stock and good prices. So it is on my regular list of about 4-5 used places around her that I monitor. Just in case.
the cul de sac is right around the corner from where the store is (I have been on it). Quite likely he lives there, or just likes it for a nice, upscale backdrop with no cars driving through!
and no, rust is not an issue. not much snow lately, and usually not hard when we do get salt to get it washed off reasonably soon after. My Sonata has never been touched by the stuff in 2 winters.

I just can't get over the sewing machine sound of the 4 cylinder turbo...
Think you'll really like the Jetta, they are fun to drive. Saving money is also a good thing, I know, we just swapped our cell phone plan after getting put into a more expensive one. The first guy lies to us after I said I want to lower the monthly payment. Finally got an intelligent lady on the last call who told us the truth, hopefully, and got me into a less expensive plan with all the needed bells and whistles. I achieved my goal of dropping the bill $20.00/month. Partial to the blue color since that's what I drive, but think you'll be happy with the color the wife liked in a few days. Since I bought, pre-paid both the 20K and 30K services and saved a bit off the regular price, the 10K was gratis. And that's the big reason I'm staying the course now, want to get to the 30K point and then decide what my next move will be. I don't have to buy anything now and anything I like will be at least $9K plus my trade, if not more. And since nothing out there is something I gotta have, might as well keep what I got at least till I get the 30K service done.

I left NY in '81 and haven't lived there since so I'm somewhat out of the loop on weather. But my Aunt lived in Jackson NJ until relocating to FL just a few weeks ago, taking my 94 y/o Grandpa from Freehold with her, and she's been complaining about the snow for the past couple of years. I don't know which NJ you guys live in. We have been getting hit hard the past several years. Actually at least 6 years since I know I had to deal with 2 blizzards during my wife's last month of pregnancy.
Rust is an issue with classics because they did not have the metal protection that later model cars have.

It just seems like we get bombed two maybe three times, it warms up and it's gone. Much different than other parts of the country that get stuff every week and there is salt on the roads from November to March
Yes new cars hold up so much better. Better protection and much less trim work to hold the water and salt.
How does that work on a lease? Will they make the remaining payments and dispo/damage fee and turn it back in to Hyundai, or just pay it off and resell it or auction it?

Rust is an issue with classics because they did not have the metal protection that later model cars have.

Yes new cars hold up so much better. Better protection and much less trim work to hold the water and salt.

Just needs some tint.
And, I'm officially forbidden to talk about cars around my wife for the next three years.
Pretty easy deal. 15 minutes in F&I. Car was detailed when I showed up. Tested the iPhone integration - nav works fine.
One minor nit - no pockets behind the front seats. And, no rear seat vents. Not that I expect to have many folks ride in the back.
