I probably should try the one car deal. Just pretty sure it would be short lived.

will wait to see if I get a too good to pass up offer this week on a Jetta. If not, can wait until month end and try again. Not like I need a 3rd car here for the next month!

One reason to go cheap cheap cheap of course is a year from now, can start working on the wife to upgrade her car instead. If she gets tired of riding around in a Jetta!

My wife is not a big fan of the Jetta - she's uncomfortable riding in it.

When - or if - I replace it, I'll have to get her to ride along to see if she's comfortable.

My wife is funny about our Elantra.   She likes to drive it (wishes it had a better stereo) but hates to ride in it.  Kinda weird.  Last night we were driving back from the shore (in the Elantra) and I mentioned next time I want something a little bigger and she mentioned a second SUV... “a smaller one (like your Moms, RAV4)”. I quickly sure if that’s gonna be your car and replace the Enclave. That conversation ended quickly.

can you imagine driving that on a CA freeway? Might be relegated to the bike lanes.

No, don't do that. Don't ever do that. I suppose if you were on the flats you could survive for a few exits.

True, but that Panhard is also an interesting car!

Well in that case you'd join the POCA (Panhard Owners Club of America)--- I just made that up, by the way. :p

I'm sure there is some squirrelly little guy somewhere who has a garage full of old used Panhard parts.

I was fortunate enough to have lunch with @kyfdx on Wednesday while I was in Cincinnati. Was talking about my plan to not replace the Jetta when the lease was up, then get something fancy (CPO lux brand) when the Subaru was paid off.

He suggested that I should take the payment savings from the Jetta and put it towards the Subaru loan.

Brilliant! That way, I'd only have to live without a vehicle for about a year, rather than 18 months.

I convinced my wife, after she was smitten with the MB SUV's, that our best course of action is to also bank our savings from the Nissan once it's paid off in June until at least 2019. We already know we're likely going with an SUV and we'll probably look at a CPO lux brand as well.

Well, fall seems to have lasted about a week here in Colorado.

About 6" of snow is predicted - starts tonight, ending tomorrow afternoon.

The Outback OEM Bridgestones are pretty much used up after 22,000 miles, and it's likely time to get them replaced.

I've started to do some research (daughter is driving this week, and the MINI got new tires a year ago).

So many choices - passenger tires, SUV tires, dedicated winter tires, etc.

All I know is that I don't want to get the OEM tires again.

Not soliciting advice here, just needing to vent. But, feel free to contribute, anyway.

That's been my experience with most of the new cars I've had. Even if a reputable make/model of tire, it seems they just wear out quickly. Perhaps the tire mfrs produce a different tire with the same name for OEMs.

FWIW, I had a set of Michelin X-Ice tires on the Regal that I would happily have driven on 12 months a year. Quiet, good ride and handling, excellent in the winter, better than the Pilots that came on it.

IIRC subaru owners have hated the Bridgestone they used for years. My sons 2014 Jetta had them too, and were pretty mediocre.

I got over 32K miles out of the OEM Michelin PSS tires on my 2 Series- and that included 3 HPDE days as well as one Test and Tune night at the local 1/8 mile drag strip.

I've heard great things about the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S tires. I also have the Continental ExtremeContact DWS on the GTI which I absolutely love.

The Contis seem well suited to the GTI because it helps mitigate a lot of the GTI's overwhelming desire to spin its front wheels on wet roads if you try and take off too aggressively.

The X6 has Pirelli Verde (?) as the stock tires. They’ve got about 19k on them now and will not make it past 25k. Agree on Michelin’s and will look there for replacements.

Verde is Spanish for "Green" - guessing it's some sort of Eco tire.

The 2017 Subaru Impreza 2.0i is trod with Continental 16" tires. The tire and pop-on hubcap look good to me but the car really looks better in 18" tires and wheels.

The Goodyear Eagle RS-A's were gone on my Fusion at roughly 18K miles and the Pirelli Cinturatos on the A4 were done at around 20K miles. The Pirelli's were fine for handling but treadwear wasn't their strong suit. I replaced them with a set of Continentals and they were well suited for the car. Sadly I only drove on them for about 9 months before I turned the car in :'(

As you pan down on that 2018 Subaru Impreza 2.0i rear view of the same car, note that the taillights bulb out in the top shot. In the top shot the viewer is slightly above the taillight assembly.

The above are the 16" Continental's on the 2.0i base model 2018 Subaru Impreza.

From some of the Audi boards I frequent from time to time most folks had seen14K-16K on their OEM Pirelli's. Of course climate, road conditions, driver habits, etc. all play a role too.

The Acura has Michelins and I'm hoping to get through this lease without having to buy a set of tires, or at least pay for the entire cost of replacement. Acura builds in a $750 allowance for excessive wear and tear into their leases. Lease another Acura and it climbs to $1,500, which would more than cover the cost of new tires.

@graphicguy my sister in laws steep dad has an 2006 GTO red with black interior! rode in it once when he got it used back in 2009 got it with 12k on it sad part is I don't think he evan put on 1k in miles on the car since 2009 in all this time he has had it por car. he has muny to spend and keeps that car in the garage and got an cerappy old Sentria to driv to work and has an nother Toyota Carola to drive daly. he also got an infinity g35 all wheel drive few munths before he got the GTO back in 2009 from the auction fully loaded has still under 30k on it no joke not shore on that one how mnny miles he ut on sinc he has had it all these yars! sad for boath cars! he has no kids so hoping my older brotgher gets the GTO one day the guy wont live for ever! told my dad to bye the infinity from him!

If I have a nice car I'm not able to withhold driving it! I can't withstand it.

My TTS already is approaching 18K miles shortly, and I haven't daily driven it since about 8,500 miles. It gets called up for the commute grind about 1-day per week, especially if I had a weekend where I didn't' get to drive it. A true weekend warrior for the most part.

I just put a set of Pilot Sport A/S 3+ tires on the ti; so far I've been very impressed. They seem to have about the same level of dry grip as the Dunlop Star Specs that they replaced.

So I got to drive the "Roval" course at Fontana Speedway for the first time Sunday. It was the Roval mixed with the infield road course, which I don't know the exact length of, but I believe it was about 88 MPH average for a 2 minute lap.

They use transponders to keep accurate lap times. During the last session of the day, they had already collected transponders, so I have a feeling my fastest lap times (probably by a good second), were not recorded. So my fastest recorded lap time was just about 2:01.28.

I was a bit of a chicken on the steep banked portion of the Nascar track. It is just a weird eerie feeling being able to go triple digits on a turn just because you have steep banking on your side. By the last session I hit my high of 140 MPH though on the straighter portion of the oval, and of course didn't hold it for long as that's the point where you have to decide just how fast you trust your down-force to keep you from going into that big wall at the top. I would quickly shave down to 110-120 MPH and that was the fastest I could stomach on the steeply banked portion.

It was a Speed Ventures gig, but there are a lot of scary walls on that track!

It's funny. Having the FWD A3 is what got me to research the hell out of tires, all tires, all brands, all models. I must have read a million user reviews too. I wanted something stickier so I could get more power down to the pavement rather than shedding rubber on the pavement.

Hey guys from the airport in very rainy Atlanta, GA.  I've been here since Saturday AM.  My wife's cousin got married last night.  It was a sweet ceremony and a nice, intimate crowd of maybe 50 people.  Our flight was supposed to take off at 12:08 pm.  It has been delayed due to the weather & now isn't set to depart until 3:02 pm.

I rented a 2016 or 2017 Camry SE.  White with a black cloth interior.  Overall I was impressed with the car.  It rode very smoothly.  The seats were comfortable.  After 31K very rough rental miles, the car was tight as a drum with no squeaks or rattles.  With a V6, this car would be a very enjoyable daily driver.  The 4cyl is far from a powerhouse, but got up to speeds of 75+ without hesitation.  The suspension is definitely more taut than my Legacy.  I paired my phone to the Bluetooth very easily while sitting at a long traffic light.  If I had known I was going to buy snow tires for the Legacy, I might have taken a Camry over the Legacy.

The SE Camry is supposed to be the "sport" Camry, hence the tautness.

I've had several lessees take their BMW to Billy Bob's Coin Laundry, Tanning Salon, and Expert Tire Service for tires before a lease return. All too often the newly installed tires aren't run-flats and as a result the lessee gets dinged for upwards of $1,200. Of course that doesn't apply to M cars as well as newer BMWs that have conventional tires fitted from the factory.

Probably the best advice for lessees with RFTs: Buy tires you want to use at the start of your lease, then put the original RFTs on the car prior to turn in! :)

@andres3 - I thought the "sporty" Camry was the XSE.

SE is the sporty one, with a little stiffer suspension, and lower profile tires. The XSE is just a luxury version of the SE. Think of an SE as a sporty version of the LE, and XSE as the sporty version of the XLE. Sporty being a relative concept.

The Tahoe has sprung a leak of windshield washer fluid. It happened right after I used the rear washer, so I suspect the hose blew off near the tank. Took me most of my free time tonight to figure out how to get access to the tank.

got some #s back today from one of my dealer contacts. Pretty good offer on a 2018 Elantra sport. MSRP $24,135. Can buy it for $20,500, plus tax and tags. Or $23,000 with 0% financing, a losing proposition.

Can lease it for $266/mo. 36/36000. a total of $1,000 at inception (basically covering 1st, DMV, and a little bit of tax). Not awesome, but respectable.

waiting to hear back from 2 VW dealers to compare. Though at some point, if I decide to go that way, will just wander over to one of them and settle in for a little grinding, and make something happen!
