I had a Saturn VUE, 4-cylinder, 5-speed that I got rid of right before 100k. My 2011 Edge is just shy of 96k. That will go up by about 1,800 miles over the holiday weekend as we head out to see family.
I have a friend that has a 1993 Volvo Wagon with over 300k miles. Somehow, it's still running.

Is she going to be working in Education or for a non profit institution (such as a non profit hospital)? She may qualify for an interest only payment, and the debt is forgiven after 10 years.

nope. But for a big bank, so hoping they have some sort of perk where you can refi all your loans into one loan with a cheapish interest rate. But none of hers are really that high a %. Maybe 4.5%? Might not save much money, but nice to not have them to deal with.

Working for a big bank? She can probably pay it off pretty quick, if she wants. But that interest rate is not really higher than a mortgage, and I think student loan interest is deductible without itemizing. I know my loan is a fixed rate of about 2%, and I will not try to pay it off early for those reasons.

Ahhh banking, if I recall correctly you said she's moving to NC so I'm guessing she's going to work for BoA, Wells, maybe SunTrust. I work for a Top 5 bank and I don't ever recall seeing any options to refi student loans with them...in fact my company is just a servicer of loans I do not believe we underwrite them.

As for student loan interest, it is deductible if you itemize but the amount you can deduct goes down as your income rises.

I've always had a soft spot for these. At this age, I believe it's an advantage to get a non-turbo.

thanks. I know there is one bank that advertises they do this (sofi?) but maybe that is a specialty. Her rates I think are in the 3.5-4.5% range, so not really that high. Refi is more about getting away from the student loan "machine". And I doubt she would be itemizing any time soon, but who knows now.

She actually is in school in NC, but getting the job in Delaware, so much closer to home (NJ).

Did I read that right - 13 year old tires? Forget about the 90% tread life left, wouldn't you want to replace these because of age?

Could you live with the color? I know we saw the white one at the C&C in October, but that one had just under 100K.

Yes, tires are too old. I like the color quite a bit. They aren't exactly quick cars, though.

I like the color as well (for some reason most of those I remember seeing were yellow) but for me I'd rather have the 1st-gen model. There was a blue '85 on BaT that sold last week for around $10K and I considered it a steal considering the great condition it was in. These 2nd-gen ones do little for me. Of course I'm biased since my '85 was my first new car.

I don't think that will be a problem. The seats in the Type R are highly bolstered. I almost needed a winch to get out of them.

I was thinking of leg room and the conflict between seat height and the steering wheel. There are some very nice cars I just can't drive comfortably, including the Miata and the Boxster and the MR2. Oddly enough, the Mini is spacious.

I fit in my '85 MR2, even with a helmet. So I'm pretty sure most people would be fine. Not sure if the 2nd gen is any better or worse, though.

Sat in a new Accord Sport yesterday. Very impressive interior especially the tablet like infotainment center. Not crazy about the exterior looks but do like the interior. It is a large vehicle truth be told, much too big for our needs but a nice vehicle all the same. Passed a white new Camry LE yesterday and like it's exterior much better to be honest. The pics of the interior are just o k but really need to sit in one to give an honest opinion. Do believe that both will sell in record numbers as they both look very futuristic and fun.
So far, we've not gotten any of either into the Hertz fleet as of yet. Saw a mess of new base Chrysler pacifica's in Ft. Lauderdale yesterday and a bunch of Nissan Altima's in Miami. Last week, Miami had about a dozen Buick Encore's with the sunroof/moonroof option. Opened one up and sat in it and liked the new dash layout, the infotainment system is now more integrated into the dash, looks much better than the previous design. It's a tall vehicle from what I could see, overall a nice package for the size I prefer. If I were to get any GM product, the Buick Encore would be it but doubt that's gonna happen any time soon.

I’m in tears I want it so bad. Might even still have touch up paint for it. If I hadn’t bought already I know what I would be doing tomorrow.

Fun car in the T5 AWD combo. Even with an automatic. This must be a hoot.

well, here is a real oddball. Other than the black interior (make that beige) it would be perfect. Other than the crazy steep miles. Though price is not that bad.

a RWD stick wagon, at the beginning of winter, in the north? That seems like a tough sell.

I hope the 6.1mpg isn't representative of overall economy. Ouch. High teens, maybe? About the only thing that I've been disappointed with the Pilot is that it gets 17 -18 mpg in daily driving and on a good day 23-24mpg on extended highway (ideal conditions) trips.

The RDX gets lousy MPG around town (partly the car, some the trips, and lots the fact that my wife has no clue how to drive smoothly to maximize MPG). 17 is normal. Sometimes I see it in the 16s, sometimes 18s. But on the highway, the VCM kicks in, and I have had plenty of trips where I pulled upper 20s. 25 would be poor if I was hammering it with hills but on a relatively open, mostly flat trip (like to NC) I easily get 28-29, and have had runs that broke 30 if don't hit traffic.

The Outback gets a pretty consistent 20-22 around town, and I've seen 28 on the highway.

Right in line with the EPA numbers.
