Sandy, I think the Civic would be very hard on your back going forward. They are just low to the ground, and even if you get in there ok, you feel every pebble when you drive. I had one back in the 90s and loved it, but I want more comfort now! The HRV has seats that are pretty firm as well.

I was really sorry that I didn't buy @breld 's GTI, just so I could say I bought a car from him.
But, after thinking about it, that doesn't exactly put me in rare company... ;)

Had the interview with Enterprise on Tuesday, all went well. But have no clue if they'll even call. The installation where the drivers clock in/out of is closer to where I live, a definite plus. But just not sure which way it's gonna go. The logistics supervisor interviewed me, glad I took my resume as he never got the one I emailed over as an attachment. He seemed pleased with my experience driving, just marked my 5th year of doing this, he even noted that it wouldn't be hard to train me as to the locations we go to as I know most of them already.
Just need to decide if I am hired, how I'd juggle both gigs...do I really want to work 6 days a week? But need to see the offer first, they use emails exclusively so am checking mine morning and night.
Their s o p is very similar to what Hertz does and he's the one who puts the teams together for each day. He said a lead driver and about 10 drivers make up each individual team which I'm used to from my first couple gigs. So, just waiting now. If it happens...great and if not...great also. Since I now plan to work until December 2019, good either way!
Best thing is that it's closer to home and only in Broward County which means more moves during a work day.

When I saw the picture of it with the description that it was charging, the first thing that popped into my head was wondering if it would stick around long enough for a second charge. ;)

I guess it being a lease adds to its chances of being more than a wham-bam kind of acquisition.

That white BMW coupe was similar to the one I almost bought back in 2013. It was in the local BMW's showroom and they went to move it out for me but the battery was dead! Man, was I unhappy as it was the perfect size vehicle for me at that time. As I recall, it had lowish miles, think it was a 2012 model and was a very good price. But think G-d decided it just wasn't the time for it so that was that. Drove a similar one last year and was underwhelmed by how heavy it drove, it had a 6 cylinder engine I think. With a turbo 4 under the hood, and I'd take it!
Like many in hear, just want a vehicle that puts a smile on my face every time and gets decent mpg's. With just under 38K on the clock, checked the average mileage of the Golf last night after feeding it some petrol, and it showed 29.9. Was expecting a bit higher as 90% of my driving is on the highway but decent enough. Will be interested to see the new 2019 Jetta when they show some pics of it. Saw a white GLI yesterday and it sure was pretty, looked freshly washed and looked beautiful in the sunlight. Stopped by the body shop on Wednesday and they gave me the green light to go ahead and wax the mirror as the paint should be cured by now. Definitely time for a wash/wax for both vehicles. Also, need new sneakers for the A3 so after tax season, it'll get done. Hopefully she'll only need three as she had replaced one of them last year. If she needs all four, not sure what she'll get. Thinking of the Bridgestone Serenity's since don't think she wants run flats like mine.

update on the Elantra. Learned some more about it today (had to take a quick trip to the boonies, about 45 miles each way). Long stretch of rural highway (55, for TJC, to Vineland area).

This car, likes to fly. I was thinking it would be more of a back road car, not highway. But other than noticing the tach being higher than I am used to, it loves to run. very smooth. 70 or 80, feels the same. Quiet. Nice ride, even at higher speed. I was impressed. At one point, traffic was zipping along and I had to pull out to pass a slow poke, so just punched it. Blew past 85 quickly, and still felt like it was not even breathing hard. chickened out at about 88 and backed off. I think it was at about 3,300 RPM at that point. Not sure where it was going to start working hard but I expect I could have gotten up to triple digits no problem. Plus I got about 34 MPG on the run.

Lot of fun for less than $19K. Going for the extra HP was worth it.

Also, I forgot how much I enjoyed having a compact size car with real zip and sharp handling for the cut and thrust of the crappy highways around here. Being able to fit in smaller spots and get around the idiots without dealing with a loafy engine that always wants to be lugging along is very nice. So going up market to a BMW or something similar (new G70?) for more luxury is intriguing.

If the Eagles win, there might not be much left standing in Philly. Of course, if they lose, there might not be much left standing in Philly.

And if they do win, the parade will likely crash the transit system so badly it may never recover.

Talked with mom before I think she’s leaning towards leasing again since the payment will be a lot lower and the crazy price of used cars and possible maintenance down the road so contacted a few GM see dealers and some other ones I’ll talk with them and try to get a no money down lease for her or his little money Donalds possible try to do everything on the phone or email so she doesn’t like sitting at dealers four hours and her thing like mentioned in a post from yesterday just has to do her test drives that’s it

I've been loving high powered cars for a long time now, and I always drive in a way that takes advantage, and saves me countless minutes on my commutes because I don't get stuck behind rolling blockades often.

The Kia has enough power to get out of it's own way, but the transmission can sometimes be sluggish to react. This gives me less confidence, not to mention my peak power is lower than yours.

I love having over 300 horses on tap which is always enough to get to any gap within eyesight ahead. Also makes quick work of passing on a one-lane road.

Merging is easier. I need power!

When I was younger I drove 55 a lot (had friends down there). I think I broke many a law on that road and got tagged a few times in the process.

Sat in the Elantra sport they had at the car show. I so wish that was out when I got mine. I don’t think I would have been able to not spend the extra money. Looks more aggressive and has the power.

I wouldn’t even dare to check, but if I wasn’t so buried in mine I’d give a shot to roll into another lease.

Speaking of the car show. My kids had a great time, Wednesday night is really the night to go. It wasn’t busy at all. We didn’t get to see quite everything as we got there at 5 and the kids were tired right around 8. My take is that Kia and a Hyundai continue to impress me I like most of the offerings. On the other end I don’t get Mitsubishi at all, nothing they make seems competitive.

I was surprised no Cadillac presence, wonder what that was all about? Volvo really makes nice stuff these days too. I also showed the wife the new Enclave Avenir, she said she was happy we got the last of the previous generation as she felt it looked like a lifted station wagon. The interior was gorgeous, though with a 59k sticker it should be. When she saw the price she asked what ours cost, I said about 10k less.

Today is the day! Super bowl Sunday. We are having a party with friends and family and wife and I took tomorrow off. Grocery and liquor stores were mobbed yesterday. The grocery stores were runnnig out common ingredients for junk food items. Ours had no cream cheese, or large size Hellmann mayo. I talked to the manger of the store and he said they got banged up bad yesterday. We were there around 4.

I tested out the limits of the i3 yesterday. Only had about half a charge from the night before (definitely considering a Level 2 charger) and apparently going 80 mph on the tollway saps the power quickly!

So on to the range extender - found out the power level may be lowered at that point, so it seemed more or less limited to around 60-65 mph, which was okay since I was about to exit anyway. Got home fine on the remaining power from the REX.

Got a little charge in the afternoon before going out in the evening, but only a few hours of being plugged in doesn’t yield many miles, so I filled up the gas tank - funny to fill up at about 1.5 gallons! But it netted me another 60 miles or so.

Finally have a full charge this morning for the first time, so that should help a lot!

Interesting that using the gas engine saps power. There’s no difference in power available to me in the Volt. The only change I notice is that it’s just a little bit noisier than on electric only. Going 65+ will really deplete the charge quickly. Also cold weather gives you less range. With the Volt you can choose gas mode on a highway and reserve the electric for regular roads or where there’s highway traffic. I don’t tend to do that but it is an option.
I’m surprised you couldn’t get a full charge overnight on a regular outlet. Does it have the silly feature like the Volt, where default is 8 amps? You have to set it manually to 12 each time. If I do, it easily charges overnight. So I don’t see a need for the 240 v at home.

breld, apparently you can do a software hack on the i3 to expand the usable capacity of the fuel tank to 2.4 gallons (from 1.9), and also to enable the "hold battery charge" mode. Both of which are available on the European version but not here. Sounds like something I'd be interested in.
  • MichaellMichaell Moderator Posts: 262,164
I spent the afternoon and evening at the @breld household, watching the SB. Had an opportunity to ride in the i3, which was my first ride in an all electric car.

While the i3 does possess an odd shape, it's pretty standard looking from inside the car. Plenty of room everywhere in the front seats, and the seats are pretty much at hip height. You don't climb into it like an SUV, nor do you fall into it like a sports car - simply step in and sit down.

Typical BMW controls for infotainment. The transmission controls would take some getting used to, however.

The ride is quite nice, given how short the car is. The roads we drove on were pretty rough, so I'll reserve final judgement on that aspect of the car. I'm sure it would be fine on smoother roads.

The torque, however - my gosh, the torque. @breld gave it some gas (well, not gas, I suppose - electrons?) and I was pushed back into my seat pretty firmly. No problems merging onto the highway, I should think.

With REX, total range is around 150 miles. Certainly enough for the type of driving I do on a regular basis. And, not needing any special charging equipment is a plus, too.

Color me intrigued. But, it would have to be a second, or spare, car. Not something you could take a road trip in.

Sounds interesting. Tough one to look at, but probably a good intro to an electric car.

This year marked the very first time my family watched the super bowl. I took the kids over to a friend's house a couple years ago (finally taking him up on the "super bowl party" offer after many years of inviting me), and they were quite hooked on it. I'm trying to remember the teams now.... Broncos and Panthers, maybe? Broncos won, anyway.

So, my son was talking about wanting to watch the game this year. I bought an antenna to see about getting it on our TV, but we got absolutely no signal from the antenna (that went back to the store!). We ended up streaming it at a pretty low resolution, which worked well enough. Our connection is spotty, at best, but was good enough for a grainy watch.

They had fun anyway, so it was all good.

Quite a game! It could have used some more defense, but wow.... rare game that it is an oddity when a push down the field *doesn't* result in a score of some sort. LOL

breld, apparently you can do a software hack on the i3 to expand the usable capacity of the fuel tank to 2.4 gallons (from 1.9), and also to enable the "hold battery charge" mode. Both of which are available on the European version but not here. Sounds like something I'd be interested in.
I'd be interested in learning how software prevents the car from utilizing all the fuel in the tank.
