I can't imagine ever buying one, but I kinda like this. Even the interior. Definitely not boring black guts!

Someone over on leasehackr posted their "deal" they're in the process of closing for a 2018 Accord Hybrid Touring. $9600 due at signing and $350 a month. That is not a typo.

that is about 20K paid in. seems like it would be cheaper to just buy the darned thing. I assume there must be some serious negative equity being rolled into this one.

Well you can't have negative equity when you wreck a Lincoln that had a $5,000 down payment and why you are shopping for said Accord Hybrid in the first place....

makes no real sense. MSRP is only 35,600. That lease payment sign and drive comes out to be $600/mo. You can get a lot of car for that money.

We at least ask the question- "Why do you want to put $X down on what is, essentially, a rental?"

"So we can have a lower payment"

"That doesn't change the total cost of the lease, however"

The $40k it costs. Unless one of you lease hack gurus can get me into one for $325/month.

Functionally, would actually really work for me. As would a Kona. Or an HRV if they ever update it with a decent engine.

Yeah, we'll see how leases go in the future. If they wind up getting as subsidized as S90s, for example, I think we could see some really good leases.

Just priced what I'd get. $41k. Truecar is showing $600 OVER MSRP. Interesting.

Invoice is only $39k, so Volvo hasn't left a whole lot of meat on the bone for the dealers.

I suspect the XC40 is going to be a big hit with the urban dweller crowd and thus we won't see many discounts.

Noticed on BAT that my wife's old 3-series wagon ended up going for $17,500.

I'd say the seller did well.

I think cars under $30K do well on BAT---after that, you see more "reserve not met".
  • ab348ab348 Member Posts: 20,292

The seller put a lot of miles on it during the time of his ownership IIRC.

That's why auctions are often referred to as "emotional buys".

On the other hand, to be fair, a lot of cars on BAT never meet reserve, or are sold at a more than fair price.

On the other OTHER hand, who knows what's "fair" if you can't examine the car?

@breld time is not measured in months; it is measured by "how many cars ago was this?"

We originally bought that wagon in January 2013 for $32k with 21k miles on it.

We sold it to the next owner (the seller on BAT) in May 2014 (a full 16 months later!). It had about 40-45k miles on it (can't remember exactly), and he paid us $29,500 for it.

The buyer got a good car. I know the guy who bought it from us took really good care of it - it was his third manual BMW wagon.

I noticed the buyer is also from Massachusetts, so I imagine he/she was able to carefully inspect the vehicle and verify its condition, and then decided it was worth the premium to get their hands on such a unicorn.

breld measures car ownership in dog years. One month = Seven of "our" months. B)

I washed the RDX today (hate this pollen), and checked the miles when I was in it. Just ticked over 44K, and will be 6 YO 4 months from now. So quite likely, if we keep it 10 years (what I made my wife promise when we blew the budget on it) will probably still only have about 65K miles on it. Should still be functional! But man, the tech on this thing is so out of date it ain't funny. Pretty sure if it stays the distance, it will definitely be the spare car for local use.

My Dad had this exact car in a 2007 MY. Nostalgia.

Emailed the seller and he believes it’s still the original clutch. So my guess is that’ll need to be replaced soon at 136k miles.

Michael, that was exactly my thoughts on the Lexus. Until my usage needs change, it could last me indefinitely. Looks nice and clean. Plus, new enough to have a BU camera. Navi too, but probably pretty antiquated at this point. No clue if you can even update the maps at this point!

My mom had it in her 2010 XC90. I don't know why they went away from the 5 cylinder, as the 6 wasn't a significant improvement in power, mpg, or NVH reduction. Not to mention, the first gear in the 2010 XC90 was extremely short, which felt odd to me. While it's definitely not the best engine, I probably wouldn't tell someone to stay away from it for a cheap everyday commuter. Doesn't your LR2 have the same engine?

when they first showed that lexus as incoming, the color chip listed was a burgundy color which I love. I was surprised to finally see the pictures. I would have to see that in person to decide if I could live with it. But, it is a cheap used car. If the mechanicals were right, and the price cheap enough, I could live with any color.

Yes, which is why I know how thirsty and gutless it is. :)
I shouldn't call it gutless. As you said, it jumps off the line. But catch it in the wrong gear and a minivan will embarass you. So our T&C outguns it AND gets nearly 25% better fuel mileage.
