Uh oh.  I think my clutch gave up the ghost on my way into work this AM. It suddenly became impossible to get the car in and out of gear.  Sucks.

Well that's no good but didn't you get over 100K out of your 2nd clutch?

Cool.  Someone actually pays attention to my rantings here  ;) I replaced the original clutch at either 52K or 54K Miles.

Wow! I guess I didn't realize a clutch would become non-operational just like that without much warning.

Was there drama in getting the Prelude parked safely? So how'd you get into work?

Maybe a master or slave cylinder issue?

I nursed it to the mechanic by literally revving the engine and forcing it into gear. I'm waiting for him to call me with the bad news. Today is the 1st day I took it out of the garage after I detailed it a few weeks ago. I dropped the Infiniti off at the body shop yesterday for those of you keeping score BTW. I took an Uber to work. Probably could have walked faster.

I don't know. Maybe. I don't think that's ever been replaced. I'll let you guys know when the mechanic calls.

If it wasn’t skipping that does sound like a mechanical failure. Linkage or cylinder. Might get kucky

If you're lucky you've got an external slave cylinder and the repair could be straightforward (and relatively cheap).

Could just be the hydraulics--check your clutch master reservoir. Clutches usually don't just fail that like, suddenly. If the reservoir is empty, there's your answer---leak at the clutch slave cylinder.

You might also test it by pumping the clutch pedal a few times to see if it goes into gear then. If that does it, another sign of faulty hydraulics.

Honestly, the biggest sticking point is she doesn't care all that much for the white. She flat out said if the 2017 S was the same color combination as the service loaner, she'd be all over it.

We'll see what her gut tells her tomorrow when she sees and drives the service loaners.

All I have to say about the color.... does it really matter? I mean, history does not dictate future actions, but, in all probability, she will not have it long regardless of the color.

And I may have a buyer for the Polestar. There's a fellow from Florida who I've been speaking with - his wife has an XC90 and he has a V90 (not the XC), and he would love to add the Polestar to his fleet.

We've agreed on pricing, and he's checking into shipping costs today...all of which is certainly positive, but he could back off at anytime, so we'll see.

TBH, if it was my car, I would encourage him to fly out and drive it home. If he isn't interested in that, then I would offer to do exactly the same thing for another $500 on the purchase price. I'd probably break even on the expense, and it would be yet another excuse for a ROAD TRIP!!!!! :)

So I heard back from the mechanic. The good news is, the clutch seems ok. Master slave cylinder is functioning normally. The bad news. He thinks the pressure plate is no good. He is going to replace the clutch, throw out bearing, & pressure plate. He gave me an estimate of $1,100 - $1,500 which seems low. But I trust him and know he will do the right thing.

Bradd, I will reduce my offer to $800 but will take it as is!

that is certainly an unfortunate expense. I assume he realizes it is the fancy version that takes longer to replace the clutch? Not sure how the pressure plate would just let go if the clutch disk is OK. But I am certainly no expert.

well, with that kind of range, it must be a T&E estimate. so if it takes hours longer, will go up.
