I want to say that @roadburner provided some context and background for the decision, but for the life of me, I don't remember what it is.

Context? I think that is obvious. Money grab
I meant more in terms of why they went to a monthly fee model for it vs. the upfront cost. Charging for it at all is clearly a money grab.
I always got the impression that BMW only offered CarPlay because everyone else was doing it. Since BMW forced you to buy navigation in order to get CarPlay, I thought it was redundant at best. I actually prefer BMW's Professional Navigation system to CarPlay anyway- in my 2014 I can access Siri as well as several other useful apps. And when I was working at BMW it seemed that even the most zealous disciples from the First Church of Apple felt the same way. As I see it, CarPlay is best suited to cars that don't already have an elaborate infotainment system.

Correct - you need to do the due diligence and reach out proactively. It is absolutely possible to lease, and lease very well, in Texas. It just takes time and patience. Some of the best Alfa Stelvio deals back in August came out of TX.

Some of the manufacturers handout tax credits on leases in Texas - for example I know BMW and Alfa Romeo do. Something to do with getting credit from the state for lease returns? In that case, it can drop the tax liability to 1% or less of the sale price over the course of the lease. But, you have to ask and you have to time it just right.

I am definitely not interested in any Alfa. Maybe a BMW. Actually, an Infiniti would be more likely. Does Infiniti ever do any of that "tax credit in Texas" stuff? That would be quite interesting.

Usually, we see the tax credits available at luxury brands in TX. No idea when, or why, they start or stop.

But, they drop the tax rate from 6.25% down to 1.25%

So for $400 you could have a loaded Infiniti or loaded Mazda... hmm. That Q50 won't last.
Is that Q50 the 4 cal or the 3.0T? I don't know that it would be loaded. Safety tech, nice stereo, etc are for the upper option categories. Not saying the Q50 isn't a nice car. I owned one. Just that they don't come equipped like the TLX SH AWD Tech would come. I do agree with you @breld. The Q60s are the "looker" in the entire Infiniti lineup. They're sharp.
The Luxe would be the 3.0T... not fully loaded but certainly equipped and not the base model

Q  Nice car you stumble across there, hopefully it works out for you and the wife, even though it’s not entirely option as others you seem just like it. If not talking will continue. Hope everyone had a good day in here, they was busy but good, some good news my company settled the lawsuit against them, found out about that last Tuesday, and they signed all paperwork we found out about that today little over a week later, so now they’re trying to get clients back,    So hoping with the best with that, still looking out there to land my dream job in the automotive field, or lease to get my foot in the door and we giving a chance to prove myself. Have a good night everyone will check back in here later or tomorrow morning bright and early.

sounds like a deal I would have trouble turning down. What color?

one drag is you will never see the blind spot package on one of those, and that is something we really want. base seats too? But if cheap enough, I can pitch it as my spare car and work on the boss to upgrade hers too!

Not sure about the seats. I have found no rhyme nor reason to which seats are in one of these. I have seen them with the same equipment list yet different seats. They have no pics of this one up yet. It is black on tan I think.

So,come to think of it, my wife has a certificate from work for BMW/mini. Wonder if that's an OL thing?? It has no monetary value on it. Just says to take it to the dealer.

made some progress today. Agreed to go to the outside outlet mall after dinner with the wife. Man was it chilly there. no crowds though! The payback was stopping at a car dealer. It was too late (and cold) to do the full auto mall experience, so just stopped at the Toyota dealer (TJC's neck of the woods).

thankfully they had a Highlander on the showroom floor, because all the cars outside had snow on them. So we sat in it and played with the features. Not bad looking (wife liked it). Comfy seats, and gigantic inside. We both just felt it was too big and bulky for our needs. So, we did not bother to drive. But, if you need something bigger, worth a look.

too bad, because killer lease deals available.

also got a quote (just for the heck of it) on an Audi Q5 (perfect color combo and everything). I knew that would not be cheap, but it was really not cheap! So that is out.

so, whittling down the list and seeing what I can. I have Friday off, so will mix a little christmas shopping, with trying to see the remaining cars on my list.

So it seems to be a fleet incentive? I can't find anything on the website about BMWs, but someone on leashacker says $500 for all models.
I would like to know if still true signing up for 3 yrs of BMWCCA gets $1k rebate. Where is @roadburner when you need him? ;)

I think it used to be that the BMWCCA rebate had a waiting period. Not sure if it's still true.

henryn, isn't the 2018 Silverado the outgoing model, and the 2019 a redesign? I would imagine the incentives would be especially strong on those, if there are any left.

CCA is still in play with no waiting period if you do the 3 year membership, but does not apply to loaners.

Your wife’s fleet code was suspended starting at the end of Q3 indefinitely.

OL codes are usually from contests, test drive events etc. Search hackr to see if anything is there.

I did not try out the 3rd row (no point) but it seemed pretty darned big inside to me.

I did ask about the upcoming Rav. Should be out by January is not sooner. Looks like a significant upgrade. They had a current style on the floor (man, is that thing long in the tooth) and the wife agreed it was a much better size for us.

Buying a three year CCA membership lets you take advantage of the rebates immediately- otherwise you have to be a member for a year. Rebate amounts vary based on the model and whether it is new or CPO.

That would fit the bill. Maybe I should look, but my guess, going to bust the budget too.

Nice X2. I could live with that. Just needs either navigation or car play. Having neither, on top of no BLIS (and that car has huge Bs!), is a lot of compromising.

I still have trouble getting my head around paying a lot for a bmw that is stripped compared to a basic Kia.

I did check out an NX. About same sticker as an RDX but thru Honcker at least, about $80-100 per month less for comparable equipped model.

Really curious to see if they take this OL code.  At minimum, it knocks off $500 and if they still had more room in the deal, it knocks off $1000 since they split contributions to get the $1000 - $500 BMW and $500 dealer.

But still options, so not a stripper in either case. And, really, even if zero options, its not like a stripper from another manufacturer. You get a base Nissan Versa and you'll have crank windows. Can you even get a manual driver's seat in a BMW these days?

I did not try out the 3rd row (no point) but it seemed pretty darned big inside to me.

I did ask about the upcoming Rav. Should be out by January is not sooner. Looks like a significant upgrade. They had a current style on the floor (man, is that thing long in the tooth) and the wife agreed it was a much better size for us.

Some of the 3rd row models are deceptive. They have a third row, but no footwell. It's torture back there.

So I reached out yesterday to a broker's Infiniti dealer contact. The offer was not nearly as good as I thought it would be based on deals I have seen posted.

    2019 Q50 MSRP $44,395
39mo 15k miles per year $348 per month w/ 1st mo, reg, taxes, bank fee due at signing.

Seems like a good deal to me for a $44 k car.....
I was thinking the same thing. Less than the 1% rule.
    +1.

Well, fir a premium priced luxury brand, no navigation, no decent connectivity, blind spot, etc is pretty bare. Probably not even XM. So stripped compared to the class it competes in.
