I like places like that. I would like to downsize the house, and ideally be close to town. We are not "city folk", so not moving downtown Philly! But perfect would be a smaller down with a nice selection of bars/restaurants like that, where we could be able to walk down but still have a single with a garage in a quiet area. There are a few towns near us that would be perfect, but most likely we aren't moving anywhere in this area, instead waiting until we do something passing for retiring and actually leave the area. this is one of our "go to" places, in a town like that. But about a 20 minute drive from where we are now. Usually a really good beer selection, and a number of oddball beers, and quite a few small brewery locals. http://www.pjspourhouse.com/eat.php?loc=Westmont
Good spot right there ... when we were working on our Westmont location we had lunch there.  Great burgers.

That’s directly across the river from downtown Cincinnati. The bridge is the Roebling Suspension bridge, across the Ohio River. (Roebling later designed the Brooklyn Bridge).

Not sure you’d find what you are looking for within walking distance, but we only live about 3.5 miles away in an older suburb (though, newer house).

Covington has a nice casual restaurant scene. Anyone coming to Cincinnati, ring me up, and I’ll buy you a beer!

Just received a notice that the Tesla Referral Program ends on February 1. IIRC, this is the first notice sent (e.g., rather abrupt). Sign of hard times at Tesla?

Hard to say if it's hard times or just consolidating. Tesla is going to need tons of cash to fulfill its ambitions overseas as well as to produce an affordable EV. The presumption is that investors will keep throwing money at Tesla in spite of little or marginal profits, but really, this can't go on too much longer.

When I was doing my tour of Ohio sites last year we spent a night in Cincy.  Went to a few really cool breweries.

I can’t remember the names but one was an old church and the other was like a warehouse with corn hole games and a few different bars with views of the tanks.

Urban Artifact is great! Their peach beer, which can’t be bottled because of the outgassing or something, is really excellent.

I like the 2018 ILX but supply is running low down here and I'd have to have one with the Technology Package if I were to get one. The 2019 doesn't really do anything for me but if I wait too long, that might just have to do. My short list is now the Acura ILX and the Infiniti QX30 and possibly the Nissan Kicks. Still want "cheap to keep" so that disqualifies a BMW 3 Series and most Lexus products are just too pricey. Like the Audi Q3 hatch but it's mpg's really stink. Want at least 33 or higher for the highway miles.
Might have to take a test drive on my next n/s day if I can find the time. But one thing, I'm finally ready to start looking which has taken me a long time to get to this point!

Funny, I thought of Urban Artifact first, as well, because it’s one of my favorites.

The restoration of the church that houses Taft Ale House is really something to see, though.

I thought you were keeping the Golf at least until the end of the year? Are you really sure you want a sedan?

and forget the Kicks. Read the latest issue of motor trend. They compared the Kicks, Kona and Ecosport. The kicks, overall, did not fair well. and it is SLOW. I actually like the Kona, especially with the 1.6t engine.

have you spent some time driving the ILX? or is it more of a like the way it looks deal?

unlikely the 30 will get much better mileage than the Mercedes cousin, but it is an interesting car. Better MPG if you get the FWD version (probably more likely to find that in Fla.)

I had the ILX loaner last week. Not a bad little car, and well equipped, but felt cheap compared to the TLX. Not something I would make my aspirational, retirement treat car.

So as I’m driving home from a weekend hockey tournament in Northern, NH with just my 12 year old son, in our 3 row, AWD, (multiple thousand) pound I was talking to him (in between movies & amazon fire time) about how my wife and I used to take the Prelude skiing.  4 snow tires and a roof rack did the job just fine.  As we are chatting, I pass a Scion FRS/Subaru BRZ/Toyota 86 with a roof rack holding 2 snow boards & a pair of skis.  3 people inside.  I told him “see, there you go.”

I often wonder if I could do that again.  2 doors, low center of gravity, small exterior dimensions.  Stick shift...

sure, why not? Wife and I used to travel in our 1986 323, and somehow we fit. Even with our son in a car seat. Now, she thinks an Elantra, which is quite a bit bigger, is too tiny for just the 2 of us.

unless you are plowing through deep unpaved snow (likely not) the tires make more of a difference, and the transmission should not matter.

Yep, had a chance to click the link and look closer, same ILX underneath but has the new grill treatment of the rest of the Acura line which is a good thing. I would imagine they will be dealing on them soon just like the 18’s.

@stickguy - cars are like houses, I guess you just fill them up no matter what! It still baffles me that 3 of us were able to (over) load the X6 for a week long trip. I’m talking to the point stuff was in the side of the backseat not being used.

I’ve got a touch of claustrophobia and just thinking about that poor person in the back of the BRZ for more than a 30 min ride gives me the heebie jeebies!!

one thing I would not give up on my car is the Carplay. I used the built in Navi Saturday, and man it stinks. Cumbersome to use, out of date (we were going to a brewery that had moved well over a year ago, and it still thought it was at the old location) and the graphics look like a 1980's Atari. So much nicer using google maps (or apple maps or waze, whatever you prefer).

I think it is an Acura thing, because I recall my 2015 Sonata having nice looking graphics, though of course, same issues with out of date maps and not being real time traffic (though the Acura has that feature).

I fit two kids (one is now in a booster) along with my wife and can go food shopping in my Elantra just fine.

Wife hates it saying it is just too small..... BUT then complains in the Enclave when my daughter (who likes to sit in the third row) is too far away to get her something.

I like the brewery/taproom, but overall their beer is average. Of course, a lot bigger selection at the taproom, so you can find some better stuff.

For a "mainstream" craft brewery, I think MadTree has much better beer.

My wife is a big sour beer fan, so we tend to hit Urban Artifact and Streetside more than the others. We have three or four on our side of the river, as well. (you know, the good side).

It's funny how spoiled we've become when it comes to craft beer around Pittsburgh. Even what I would grade as average isn't all that bad.

Amazingly, there are probably 15 local taprooms that I have yet to sample. Mostly, in the Northern suburbs.
I think we have over 40 local breweries.

The sad part is the closest brewery to me is really old school. A lot of English styles. They seem to be doing great, but every time I go, I leave uninspired.

Both excellent. Glad you enjoyed them. Cincinnati is turning into a Mecca of craft beers. Pretty cool to see the renaissance. Cincinnati was a hot bed of small breweries back in the 1800s up until Prohibition. They’re making a strong comeback.

Mentioned my son is best friends with the guy who’s putting this brewery together.

Was looking through receipts this a m and couldn't find the one for the oil change. After some phone calls, seems like I'm around 1200 miles past the 10K point. Going into the VW store tomorrow afternoon and getting that resolved. Their website has a $69.95 synthetic oil change coupon plus a free tire rotation one. My wife copied them for me as my MacPro is acting up, so only working till noon tomorrow and go in at 2:45. Only worked 1/2 day today but need to get it done tomorrow.
They also wash it when the service is finished and it truly needs a bath. I guess when I got sick last May, just forgot about keeping up with the oil change date. Usually I'm always up on this stuff but 2018 was a bad year for me so not beating myself up over this faux pas.
Drove a new Buick Envision today and a few Chrysler Pacifica's and must say, both are good at what they do. The Buick was a nice red color with an ivory interior which was a pleasing combo. Right now, we have a lot of vehicles rented out there so sedans are hard to get but there's plenty of minivans to be had.

Have a big question about hybrids with batteries. Are they usually guaranteed for life or is there a time limit on their warranty. We were discussing this at work today and seems like things could get pretty expensive if there isn't a good warranty on them. Not sure I'd take the plunge unless I know upfront that they have a lifetime guarantee.
Anyone that is in this situation, what kind of warranty is there?

So you have a Chevy I see but, are you leasing? If so, they take it back and you just walk away. At least Hyundai has the lifetime warranty just in case something does go wrong. But since I haven't driven any besides a Prius which I disliked, not sure how the Hyundai/Kia vehicles drive under every day circumstances.

@Sandman, I leased the Volt. I will have a decision to make come December because I really love it. If there aren’t any 2019 Volts left I may just buy it out. It really is the perfect mixed use EV for us. And so far I haven’t seen anything else that fits the bill the way the Volt does. I’m not worried about the battery as I don’t tend to keep vehicles past 10 years anyway, and virtually all of the ones made are still on the road.
