For all the hate that gets dished out here against the Altima, I second that thought.

I thought the Murano had a pretty good rep. I’ll bet it drives nicer than the Altima. Hopefully it’s not as noisy as the Rogue.

I had a previous gen Murano and it was a great vehicle. Didn’t ever feel as fast as it should have with that VQ engine, though.

Probably. I'm told it kicks up a nice black cloud when I boot it. LOL.

The old Murano was a pretty nice vehicle. Last one I was in was the first gen, I think, however. The Rogue is dreadful.

The Murano was refreshed in 2019, and MT claims it is the same feel as the 2015 that got top honors in a comparo vs the Edge and Santa Fe Sport. Not exactly heady company, but better than a loss.

getting info from these 2 brokers is like pulling teeth.

me: "Does VPP improve the numbers at all? And which state’s taxes are included in your pricing?"
b1: "Yes VPP is not included."

    me: "Can VPP be applied?
What does 36 mo look like?
How much of the discount is a taxable incentive?"
b2: "If you work for a qualified VPP company, than you do get an extra incentive.
24 months is the cheapest configuration for this car."
me: "If you happen to know the VPP incentive on the Murano S AWD, I’d appreciate the info." (I figured he is one of those who can't handle more than 1 question at a time, so I'll re-ask the tax question later)
    b2: "Please direct message me."

I repeated the questions and he finally clarified. His numbers include NYC numbers, so should be a little less for NJ, and its about $600 additional discount for VPP. I'd like to get a solid number from at least one person before I go comparing other offers. Right now, with what this broker is saying, I'm down to about $1331.62 and $235.13/mo. Still a bit more than I'd like to target. If I could get it to $250/$250, I think it might be hard to say no to. Of course, the wife has said no to better things before. haha.

Vehicle Purchase Program. Something you can get through your employer if they offer it as a benefit. The manufacture offers a discount to the employees, usually companies that work for them.

Thanks, @kyfdx for the numbers on the lease thread.

By my calculations, I would need an 11.1% discount to hit $250/$250. Doesn't seem too crazy, although I'm totally unfamiliar with Nissan's margins. Heck, I could take it down to 24/10k and do even better. That would be in the $235 range.

Probably wise, but not nearly as entertaining. It makes sense to "sleep" on it since the lease cannot be transferred.

I think my 2009 Altima was built in TN, and it had flawless reliability, as did my J VIN Murano.
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,737
So before I came to that decision, I had texted the wife with the proposition. I find it easier to text because I can get out my explanation without being interrupted. Anyhoo, I think once I hit send, the feeling of dread at her reply is what made me prematurely back down. :)

Anyway, she wasn’t totally against it. So I did say that, if that NJ rebate passes and I can get a Bolt for like $99/mo, all bets are off.

my wife says I should just do whatever I want, car wise. I think that is mostly because she gets tired of hearing me talk about it. and knows I am inherently too cheap to do anything financial crazy.

this, of course, only goes for "my" car. I am not allowed to do anything with her DD without approval! Same if my car is going to be the primary go places together wheels (the primary reason my elantra got flipped for the TLX).

When we finally upgrade her car to something nice that we will be able to take everywhere, I can start flipping at will, or get any weird set of wheels that strikes my fancy.

@qbrozen - good luck with your surgery.

I’ve been thinking a lot about my truck. I really like it. The big bed does come in very handy. I’ve used it for work to make deliveries twice in the last 2 days.

On 12/30, I sent my driver and another guy to make a delivery. He came back, we loaded up again and right before he’s about to pull away, he tells the other guy that he’s not felling well. I go outside and ask him what’s going on. He tells me he forgot to take his heart pills, doesn’t feel well and wants to call an ambulance. I hopped in the box truck, and drove him to the hospital. He’s been there ever since. He had a stroke in the back of his head and is now in life support.

I’m going to have to hire another driver. Until then, I’m the driver. If I can fit things in my pickup, I’d rather drive that than the box truck.

Parents got new tires on their 2011 Element today. OE Goodyears were never good, got very noisy and the tread wore down around 40-50k miles in 2014, and they got Michelins to replace them. The Michelins still had excellent tread, approximately 90k later, but the tread compound had hardened and they were starting to slide. Dad found a nail or something in one of the tires and they went to Discount Tire. DT agreed the tires were dry rotting and gave them something like $44 per tire credit towards new Michelin tires.

I'm glad they got some credit towards new tires, but am kind of disappointed that expensive Michelin tires will dry rot in five or six years on a car that is kept in an attached garage, where they rarely see sunlight or are subjected to freezing temperatures. Regardless, Dad remarked that those will probably be the last tires they put on that vehicle before it's time to replace it.
