Gee, I would have thought a car guy would have known that. Simply put, not worth fixing...just throw it away. C'mon man, you knew that, right?

I was confused by your use of the term since you seem to think, in 2005, you were a trendsetter and only the 2nd guy here with one. Trust me, your assessment isn’t even close.

The Ioniq impresses me thus far. Seems to be a very solid car, nice steering response, quiet ride. The tech is pretty sweet, foo. Lots of stuff to play with.

You have the weather we should have. Extended forecasts make it possible the fintail won't be driven this month. I was fortunate to find a few dry hours the Saturday after Christmas.

The suspension is a lesson learned: justice isn't always just. Also, revenge is a dish best served cold, a simply uttered "what goes around comes around" can go a long way B)

This unusually warm weather is both good and bad. It is bad if you sell plumbing & heating supplies for a living and this is supposed to be your "busy" season. It is bad if your 10 year old doesn't have any hockey games this weekend because he got suspended, your 13 year old only has 1 game Sunday night, & you want to go skiing for the "no hockey" day. It is good if you have a well maintained 2001 Honda Prelude Type SH that's been staring at you when you leave and come home every day.

I fired up the Prelude this AM. It took a few cranks to turn over. Heat on. Sunroof open. It is amazing how warm the upper 40's feel. I just had such a pleasant drive to work this AM. My Prelude is simply a joy to drive.

Like I said I was in the Stories From the Sales Frontlines forum only. Now that I think of it I'm pretty sure @graphicguy's son had Hyundai of some kind. If there were others on that forum that had a Hyundai they stayed well hidden in the closet. I'm sure Edmunds had a dedicated Hyundai site but I wasn't going in there where the whole world would know I had a throwaway. It was bad enough being in one forum. like I said, fashionable now but not back then.

As for charging your new Ionig, as you found out, a charger should never be on a ground fault circuit. Just like refrigerators shouldn't be. Way to many random electrons running around in those things and trips will always happen. I'm also surprised you can't charge on a 220V circuit. That being the case, there must be an adapter cable for when you are on the road. Let us know what you find out about this dillima.

debating running alternate plans to the wife. Instead of trying to go all the way to the car of the dreams now, could do a 2 step process. Flip her car for something a bit newer and nicer, but a lot cheaper than brand new, that she would use for a couple years and then pass it down to me (paid off) when my car goes back, at which time she would get whatever new car she wanted, after we saved up to pay (mostly) cash for it.

She always loves my schemes plans!

if I had found the 2018 low miles Volvo V60CC on Carvana quicker when they made me a silly offer on the RDX last fall, would probably have done this already. Oh well. Snooze you lose.

If memory serves, he used to have a Leaf, but he’s owned so many other cars between then and now that he may have forgotten how it works.

If/when the time comes, it will be super easy to install a 220v charger at my house. The place I park the car I’m driving is only a few feet from the electrical meter and the breaker panel in my basement, and I have plenty of empty spaces in the panel.

as long as I am in this house, the EV would be real easy, because the breaker box is on the wall of the garage just inside the door. so if the plug was on the left rear flank or front passenger fender, I would be within a few feet of it, so putting an outlet in would be a piece of cake.

and speaking of the leaf, one of the new style drove down my street this AM. Very slowly. Pretty sharp looking. than this afternoon I saw a 1st gen on the road. Much tinier and goofier looking.

Snow expected this week in Seattle, starting tomorrow. Prepare for mayhem. It doesn’t take much for everything to start shutting down.

Outback is gassed up and i3 will be parked once there is any meaningful accumulation. I’m excited to try out the Outback in the snow.

You'll be pleasantly surprised. We've never played with the X-Ice setting, and the AWD system is slightly biased to the rear, so you can get a little bit of a drift going around corners.

I haven’t seen a public charger without one. That would be weird. What you need to make sure of is that you’ve got the right kind of charger, as only 1 kind will likely work with the Ioniq. Probably a Level 2.

Here's hoping! I could live with a nice little dumping.

What I fear most is localized snow along the frontal boundary tomorrow evening. I have a hockey game in the evening, and I'd rather not deal with a disaster area on my way home, as no route avoids hills. Let the snow hit early and cancel everything, or after I get home B)

In the past, such snow events have been real issues, cold air arriving right at rush hour, with traffic chaos for the rest of the evening. Mother Nature can have a sense of humor.

Always loved the MP3, although it could have benefitted from about 30 more hp. Oddly enough, it is a far more comfortable car than the mazdaspeed3. I’ll never understand why Mazda eliminated the tilt function from their seats.

that was one of the biggest reasons I did not get a 3 when they first came out. Loved the car, but could not get any tilt on the front cushion, and I can't stand a seat the kinda dumps you out to the front. Took a few years until the top model had a power seat, and by then I had moved on!

My 626 had seats like that mp3, with the turn wheels for front and back. some of the best seats I ever owned. Even out 323, which did not have a height adjustment (that I can remember) had a 2 position tilt lever. Basically could have it flat, or rock the whole seat back. Perfect that way.

Driver's seat tends to be my pet peeve.

ok, finally sitting in front of computer. Been a long day, and not just because of the car. That took about 2 hrs, even though they were "ready" for me. Sure. Anyway, it went fairly smooth. No real games. $159.89 was the final number.

Pleasantly surprised to learn about the app and all that it offers. I re-urged a friend to consider getting one for his soon-to-be-driving twin daughters. With the app, he can trigger alerts to his phone for exceeding a set speed, wandering outside a geographic region, driving past a set number of miles, and driving past curfew.

Drove home from the dealership without triggering the engine. Plugged it in when I got home and promptly tripped the GFI. lol. Reset and it started charging. When I checked the app like a half hour later, it said it wasn't charging, but that it was plugged in. Hmmm... so I hit the button to start charging and it says it is now. Not sure what's up. I think it is looking for a schedule. So I went into the settings and turned off the timer feature. Hopefully that fixes the issue. What I think is odd is that it does not even come with a 220v charging cable. So how is someone supposed to use a public charge point?

Cute little car. Doesn’t look like your typical hybrid with weird angles and such styling.

I was reading somewhere that when two teams play each other in the playoffs and one team has the player with the most rushing yards and they are playing the team with the most rushing yards, the team with the player with the most rushing yards wins. 3 times in Divisional play and once in the Super Bowl.

I don't know what that has to do with the price of beans, but it's interesting.

My son and I saw a clear imbalance in penalty calls, for one thing. But the dropped passes were, IMHO, the Ravens biggest problem last night, followed closely by missed tackles. I don’t think Jackson was to blame. I honestly can’t say the Titans are a better team overall, but that the Ravens stunk up the field enough to let them advance. I give credit for a couple of great interceptions, though.

I liked your idea, combined with the basic update. Clean the heck out of the parts you can like the MAF and throttle body, update the ECU, and hope for the best. Though good chance end up replacing the O2 sensor also.

hey, it is a 15 YO Ford. gotta expect to do something to it.

@qbrozen - congrats on the Iconiq. I’m look good forward to your impressions of it. Should be worlds different from your Leaf which you hated. For under $160 per month it is impressive. Not sure the wife would go for it, but she definitely piles the miles up on her Pilot, something like this would be a nice supplement for her.

    @stickguy - that Boxster S seems to
Check all the boxes. Just make sure you have a PPI done by a reputable Porsche mechanic.

@breld - used car prices are out of hand. I know the Mazda Speed 3 is a rare bird, but cmon. $12,500 for an 11 year old car that was how much when new?

I don’t know if you guys have noticed, but I’m starting to see some “re-lists” on Bring a Trailer. Most recently was an Acura RSX Type S that someone bought off BAT in August and Is now up for Auction again. I hope this doesn’t continue. So many listings of people who acquired the car a year or less ago where the current owner drove less than 1,000 miles and “performed” an oil change.

@nyccarguy has your wife warmed up any more to her new job?

That Boxster is very nice. Great color and being an ‘03, you get the benefit of some feature updates like a heated glass rear window vs the old plastic.

The IMS is a biggie, so that’s good. Presumably they did the clutch at that point, too. You’d want to have a PPI check out the RMS and air oil separator as well.

I just responded again. I’d bet it’s highly neglected. Probably original plugs and barely any maintenance. They will go into the mid 100s doing virtually nothing.

My 04 was at 105 on the original plugs, tranny fluid, brake fluid, and rear brake pads

The only real maintenance that was ever done was 4K oil changes, rear axle oil, antifreeze (once) and front pads. Oh and a battery at 10 years old.

Only actual repairs were a new accumulator for the AC and blower motor / controller

Congrats on the punch. Have fun with it and give us your early impressetions.

My how times change. In 2005 when I came to Edmunds and visited the old forum, Stories From the Sales Front Lines or something like that, I was maybe the second guy, I think @snakeweasel was the other dope who owned a throwaway. Now it's almost fashionable to own one. Not many people can say they are ahead of the curve but that's a burden I've learned to live with for most of my life. B)

    Congrats again.

    What does “a throwaway” mean?
More importantly, how does it differ from a “wannabe”?
I've answered this before. Either you weren't listening or you're showing your age, so I'll say it again. A Genny is a wannabe and lesser model Hyundai products are throwaways. Got it? Don't make me have to say it again. :@

No I don’t get it. If a throwaway is a beater, that’s hardly Hyundai for a very long time now.

Exactly - my son, stepson, daughter in law and ex-wife all drive Hyundai vehicles. All are expected to be held long term.
