This guy says he loves his Tesla Model 3, but the ac often smells bad, there's condensation in one of the rear tail lights, his lumbar support broke, standard tires bad and last less than 10k miles, having the sun "sizzle his eyes" through the glass roof is unpleasant, electrical gremlins in driver power window, so-so paint, etc. This is steering me back toward Acura.

Yup, it would replace the 228i. But I’m still much more inclined to give it some time for used ones to appear unless the discounts get silly.

The wingnuts at Oxmoor(ons) Toyota in Louisville won't allow a test drive of a Supra without a signed buyer's order.
Can you really blame them? They don't know you or your level of seriousness. Cars like that attract flakes and joyriders like a magnet. When the S-2000's first came out, we had a similar policy. As time went by we slowly relaxed the rules. We still tried hard to ferret out the serious from the non serious but it's hard. As expected, VERY few who went on test drives were buyers. Several salespeople had the living bejeesus scared out them by idiots who were determined to drive the crap out of them. Toyota will sell every Supra and at the risk of ticking off a few people the cars will still sell.
It took me 8 months between test driving a Mustang (which the salesman begged me to do) and actually buying. I suppose you can be picky if you can sell every one but people have long memories and may not buy the Corolla for the kid because their feathers got ruffled on the Supra test drive.

Whoa, Edmunds appraisal and partnership through Carmax offered $2,200 more than Vroom for my A4.

However, how much do you want to bet that USAA won't make a DV offer even matching the higher ACV of Carmax's Edmunds offer as the post-collision value (reducing the DV amount accordingly)?

It's great when you manage to find a decent dealer (or more likely, salesperson). When I bought our Forester a few years ago I was blown away by the pricing, the treatment before the sale and the delivery experience. There's nothing like it, but for people like me, the opportunity only comes up every five or ten years.

Finding a good dealer/salesperson is much more useful to you lot, other than the fact that you change brands at the drop of a hat.

You sure about this? The same dealer says they will sell you an Avalon Touring for $10k less.
  • corvettecorvette Member Posts: 11,281
Speaking of which, I think I read that Toyota plans to offer the upcoming AWD Avalon with the 2.5 liter four banger shared with the Camry. Right now, the standard Avalon engine in the US is a V6. That sounds like a disaster to me, taking an already heavy-ish premium sedan, significantly reducing the horsepower, and then adding the weight and driveline losses of AWD.

'06 Cayenne Turbo S on BaT now. I wonder what those goofy people will bid it up to. Nothing terribly special with 88k miles, multiple owners, nonworking moonroof, and some other things. Honestly not worth more than $12k.

A few guys in my crew got called back to work starting today. The new temp location is at the Palm Beach International airport on Belvedere Rd. in West Palm Beach. Not sure how long temp will be temp, but it's something I can live with! I live super close to the original location and seems that the ones who live closest to PBI were called first. Logical of course and I wasn't called. I did the same drive for a few months at the end of 2013 till mid 2014, but the 76 mile round trip drive was just too much for what I was paid. But stayed at my kids place some of the time since she lived about 15 minutes away. Started at Hertz the same period and between the long drive when I did it and both gigs, I was working 7 days a week and it just got to be too much. I chose the Hertz gig and never looked back until about a year later but by then, they no longer were hiring guys who had previously worked there. A blessing for me really!
The good news is that my lead told me this morning we'd all be back to work once they re-opened the closer location to where we live so, was happy enough with that. We were never really fired, just placed on a furlough status. Going to Orlando on the 26th for four days so I'd actually really love to start back on the 1st truth be told. Anyways, I've kinda grown used to having this time off with nothing really to do. After being so unhappy those first few weeks with no where to go, am finally enjoying it and in no super hurry for it to end. Getting the UI also helps, truth be told...getting paid to stay home ain't so bad!
If I could retire again, right now, with no hassle from the other half, is something I could be persuaded to do even though I do love the Enterprise gig. In no way would I even consider going back to Hertz even though was told yesterday that out of the eight of us in the original crew, only two remain working three days a week. Betting they'd rehire me in a nano second if I asked but...no thank you! Best case scenario has indeed happened here for me, I've got a job to come back to...eventually...a job I'm happy to go back to! And giving up the unemployment isn't really an issue. And if it takes a bit longer than we thought, so much the better for that also. It's a win/win for me no matter what happens...get rehired at a later date closer to our house, or just flat out retiring again. A win/win situation no matter how things play out...for once, I truly do win!

That’s good news. I’m hoping it will play out the same up here. Only down side that I can see is that the guy who took over for my fired boss is kind of a pickle puss so it might not be as much fun working for him.

As to the win-win, it’s always great when you have a job you really don’t need. Much less anxiety. My only regret is thinking why wasn’t the government throwing money at me like this when I was young and poor and really needed it.

When they do that it’s usually because the milage is high. There’s a good sized Chrysler store near me that lists on all the car sites (AutoTrader, Car Gurus, Cars.com etc. ) they never list their mileage. I was seeking under 60k miles. When I finally tracked down the actual mileage of their car it was 94k.

My parents officially traded the V60. Dealer came up big on the trade - gave them over Vroom value and just under carvana value. Factoring in the tax savings on top of that, it was very strong.

They picked up a CPO 2017 Audi SQ5 with 15k miles. The deal on that was also very strong - they were having trouble moving it before COVID because it was the last of the old body style. They also added the CPO warranty wrap, which added 4 years/unlimited miles onto the end of the manufacturer warranty.

    Mom is very happy.

Though ours is not the SQ5, we really like our Q5. Hope your mom enjoys many happy miles of ownership.

I saw a new unplated SQ5 yesterday. Loudly blurted into traffic then turned without a signal onto an expensive (as they all are here) residential side street, because Bellevue and self-awareness.

I am sure the more mature buyers of CPO models are better :)
