if it weighs 2000 pounds and has a stick shift and the top goes down, you can have a whole lotta fun. In a CVT Accent sedan, not likely.

Sandy, I thought you wanted something that sits a little higher for easier in/out? Just seems like for similar money and performance, a Kona or Seltos would be a better LT fit for you.

Apparently the next generation GTI is due at some point. The controls have gone almost all electronic touch as seen in this video after 4 minutes. The reviewers say they are worried that they'll hate the controls. For those wanting a GTI, if you don't want those touch controls, maybe the last generation might actually be better?

Those two clowns take the cake for the most annoying pair of car commenters I have seen recently. They went off the rails early by suggesting that a Hyundai is perhaps a better car, and then go on and on based on nothing other than what they see in a video. Add to that their nudge/wink comments about themselves and it is almost unwatchable.

With young guys like this there is one thing I just don’t get. They go on at length about how awful touch controls and sliders are - without ever having used these ones - and complain about a lack of twist knobs and push buttons, yet in the very next breath wax eloquent about Apple CarPlay with is, of course, all touch and slide. And of course in real life these guys live through their smartphones which are all touch and slide.

    Idiotic.

The Kona is a nice package and you can get the bigger engine (175 HP) along with a nice list of features. I think you can even get HUD

Sounds like a good value. But do you want to drive an Accent for the next ten years?

a 1.6t Kona (or the Kia version) could work for me after the TLX. I don't want something too low slung, and prefer a smaller car. And nice to have some utility, without giving up an entertaining driving experience or decent performance (and MPG).

it is not obtrusive on my daughter's Jetta with the 1.4t, but I think she also has mastered the feather the brake trick to keep it from activating. Interesting though on that car, there is no button to deactivate it.

I have actually been leaving it on mostly in the RDX. I did realize yesterday that you can use the brake hold feature at the same time. so you pull up to a light, the engine stops and brake engages (without you doing anything) and you can sit there without keeping a foot on the brake, with the engine off. when you want to go, tap the gas and it fires up and you move.

A friend of mine who owns a business in my town put on a car cruise last night. I’d guess 400 or more cars were there. I brought the ti as it was the car that needed the least work to be presentable. Lots of Mustangs and Corvettes as well as several street rods- my favorite being a ‘32 Deuce with a 392 Hemi, a flame job, whitewalls, steel wheels, and baby moon hubcaps. I was parked next to a couple of Octane Red Challengers. Gorgeous cars- one Scat Pack and one SRT. I wish they weren't so big and heavy.

an hour later after a trip to Lowes, was back in business with a new Craftsman (which seemed awfully similar to the old troy built).

Hasn't one builder been buying up the names of some of the old quality standards? Many years ago Lowes had 3 different mowers on the display rack, and IIRC they were all built by the same company.

According to an employee at my local store, Lowe's bought the rights to Craftsman. I have no idea who makes the stuff now (as it wasn't independently made in recent years even when Sears still owned it), but they carry pretty much every conceivable tool with that brand name. The only other place I saw the brand recently is NAPA Auto Parts. Surprised me to see it there... perhaps NAPA and Lowe's have a corporate relationship?
Craftsman (formerly a Sears brand and now part of Black and Decker/Stanley) is built by MTD, who also makes Bolens, Troy-Bilt, Yard Man and Cub Cadet mowers.

I don't see any difference, regardless of engine. A four cylinder might put less strain on a starter than a bigger engine.

If you want to do jackrabbit starts, just turn off the stop/start.

In the Jetta is there a “sport” mode? That may disable start/stop. On the Volvo if you have it on, switching to Dynamic mode turns it off as part of the setting.

Is stop start a good idea on a turbo that’s meant to provide quick off the line performance?

Part of the complaint that the reviewer has is that the engine and transmission are geared for economy, taking away much of the fun-to-drive factor that previously was there with the 1.8T Golf. Acceleration 0-60 with the 1.4T takes almost 8 seconds. The auto stop-start can be disabled, but you have to do it every single time you get into the car. It can't just be shut off permanently. Some better cars have an air conditioning reserve of some kind and so that when the engine shuts itself off at a stoplight you are still getting cold air, but that doesn't happen with the Golf. And so when you're stopped in the Golf on a really hot day it starts blowing warm air at you. All in all it doesn't seem like the best engineering even for an economy car.

Yeah, I guess. It’s just that when driving a few cars with that feature if for some reason I had my foot on the brake and had to take off quick when the light changed I noticed a jolt. Can’t be good for the system. I suppose if it was my own car I’d do as you say.

Not really a big deal to push the button when you start the car, if the feature bothers you. You get used to doing it. Our RDX always defaults to on (at least as far as I know, but someday I’ll go in and poke through all the settings menus).

I think the EPA won’t test them with start-stop enabled unless it defaults to on every ignition cycle, thus, if they want “credit” for the fuel savings on the MPG ratings, the system has to behave that way. I think BMW used to be cheeky and put the disable switch next to the start button, not sure if they still do.

well, thank you, guys. That is very kind. I'd be happy to buy a taco lunch in exchange. lol.
I'm awaiting the salesperson to send me pics of the driver's seat at least.
If that looks fine, I'll try to strike a deal pending "inspection" by the CO crew.

A couple of odd things in the pics. The closeup of the badges shows orange peel on the tailgate. No accident history, so I'd be curious if the whole car has that (odd for MB, no?) or if that tailgate has been repainted. The other thing is the interior. The shifter and climate controls looks either particularly grimy or particularly worn. Window switches look perfect and the steering wheel controls don't appear to be too bad, so, again, seems incongruent.

Rule of Seattle commuting (pre-pandemic), at least for the area around me, is 15 miles = 1 hour of drive time, in dry conditions with no incidents. Add inclement weather, and anything goes.

Just thinking off the top of my head, this leak has got me a little crazy. I just want it gone already and no more vehicular drama for awhile. Makes zero sense to do anything yet, until we see what's up with the Golf. I'm just looking at alternatives as there's so much 0% financing out there and my timing has always been off when it comes around. Did like that new GTI, a lot, but a bit pricey to be honest.
