Here's the most recent vid I found on JR's Civic Hybrid - IMA dead, but still runs?

I like his videos, but if I'm being critical - he seems to copy Hoovie a lot, just with a lower budget. The videos are a bit too PG-rated (or G-rated) for my liking. And it doesn't seem like they adequately portray the natural frustration one frequently encounters with repeatedly trying to fix something, to no avail.

that was the last episode I saw. just didn't remember where they left it.

one advantage for these guys by doing the videos, that they mention occasionally. When they get to a point on a project where they get lost and have no clue what to do next, there always seems to be an expert following them that knows the answer and lets them know! That and some places send them parts to get the plug.

you tube channels for everyone! You can be hooptie central, and Breld can be the upscale cool car flipper with a nice garage.

QB can be the guy that takes stuff apart but never gets around to putting it back together.

good luck Q. I heard that DMV is opening soon, I think next week with the next wave of stuff like hair salons. Until then, you get indefinite grace period that we have been in since March. I guess you just drive around with no plates, unless you have a set laying around to slap on, with the intent of transferring registration at some point.

I would think that since it is at a dealer of some sort, it would come with an FLA transport temp tag on it. If so you just keep driving on that.

I leased the Tundra without ever driving one. *shrugs*

I've ridden in my friend's second-generation (2010-ish) ML350. It was very solid and quiet and I'm sure I'd have liked the driving experience, other than the repairs it always seemed to need. He dumped it for a GMC Canyon, I think.

Thanks for the well wishes on the car, folks. Wire transfer was done today and just filled out the transport docs. So I'm guessing maybe in a week to 10 days it will be here? I have NO IDEA how the whole titling/registering thing is these days in NJ. The kids can't seem to comprehend how an SUV can be faster than the Charger. I guess the proof will be in the test drive. lol.

My little one says, "so you are going to get the Coronet working, right? Then you'll have 3 fast cars?" I said I may sell the Coronet once it is done. He got quite upset. Said no way, you have to keep THAT.

I’m sure you’ve told the back story on your Coronet but I must have missed it. Do you have any pictures? How torn apart is it and what’s the reason for the delay in putting it back together?

I know I’d never attempt a classic car rebuild. Lack of money being primary, lack of skill being close behind.

I’m with your kid by the way.

Engine bay only has the block and oil pan in it at this point. I already had plans of changing cams and adding headers and power brakes and rebuilding the steering rack. Car happened to be overheating, too, with no known cause. Maybe this refresh will help with that, maybe not.

No pics on me at the moment.

Oh, work came to a halt when my dad died. And just before restarting, my mom passed. Being the executor for both took a lot of my time. Then I started working multiple jobs. I think maybe possibly soon. Lots of house projects, though. At this point, if I knew a good trustworthy mechanic, I’d probably deliver it in boxes and say “have at it.”

I just couldn’t stand the chrome. Literally the only part of the car trimmed in chrome. Someone over on a ZHP board was getting rid of them and just let me have them for the cost of shipping.

JR finally got an engine for the R8 and installed it. I'm not sure what the cost was, but I'm wondering whether it might have been more economical to attempt an LS swap.

not sure what that would have done to the value of the car. But I just watched that episode. Have not seen any of the previous pieces on the Audi, so no idea where the engine came from. But man, that is one scary looking engine bay! an LS might fit easier, but I imagine making the electronics play nice would be a nightmare!

The R8 was $55k, IIRC. So, he's into it for $80k plus incidentals, at this point. It does have some fancy aftermarket upgrades, but I wonder whether it would've been cheaper overall to buy a clean, stock one and then do the upgrades yourself. I honestly have no clue about pricing on those.
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,736
Looks like about $75k would buy you a clean 2010 V10 with under 30k miles.
