Kind of an odd thing, I think: I've found I don't have the desire to upgrade to a new Charger. Yes, sure, a Scat Pack would be sweet, and the interior is far better than mine. But I can't seem to bring myself to surrender my Hemi Orange Daytona. To me, it is a special car in a way that a new one just isn't. At least none that I have seen. I see some new ones that are in Go Mango, but they don't carry the visual appeal of mine, IMHO.

I’d have to agree with you. Yours is “different” the new ones are a little more common. The new model is also more subdued even in the brighter colors.

Is the Kia thing in collections? If so, or once it does settle it for a lesser amount and make them remove it from your credit report as part of the deal.

Wife had a $300 medical bill that was BS and we couldn’t fix. We knew we didn’t owe it but with all the time that passed it eventually went to collections. We offered $175 and immediate removal from her report. They complied.

Somebody I do business with had this crazy thing happen to his wife’s student loan a number of years ago. They went to refinance the student loan which was bought out out by another company on the day they refinanced it. They ended up having to settle with the company that bought the loan AS well as pay what they refinanced. It ended up costing them thousands of dollars. If they would have continued to fight in court, they would have racked up a lot more than they settled for in legal fees alone.
Many years ago a crooked dentist turned a bill in for collections despite being paid. I managed to track down a copy of the check and sent it to the collection agency with a letter filled with righteous indignation. Case closed.

When we built the house the contractor who installed the septic system failed to pay for the fill used and a lawyer put a lien on the house. Fortunately, in NY if you can prove you paid the contractor you could vacate the lien. I was furious with that contractor but it all worked out.

You'd think a city like NY would have city water/sewer by now. Next thing maybe add city sanitation service so that the National Guard won't have pick up the garbage. Or just move.

$200 for a new one. Tires have 18K miles. Already down to 5/32.

I’m pretty sure Mrs. @breld curbed this tire, and I just missed it, until now. ;)

    Decisions, decisions..

Last night, I pulled the Pirelli Scorpion tires off my Q7 for the winter. I put them on back in May, and I only put 4,000 miles on the vehicle since then. They started with 11/32 tread, and were down a startling 1.5/32 since then! I think they have a 50,000-mile rated treadwear, so I was really surprised that they dropped that much in so short a time.

In comparison, I put the Michelin X-Ice (a winter tire!) on my wife's car for the summer, because they are too worn for winter duty, and they had 8/32" at the start of summer. Somehow, they only lost 0.5/32" over that time, which was more than 6,000 miles on her car! Life just isn't fair sometimes...

That’s another car I’d like to know the back story on. Why get rid of a car after 2500 miles? I know that there are members of this board capable of getting bored that quick but did this owner get bored, run out of pandemic payments, get repoed or is this some sort of lemon?

Are you referring to my story about septic systems? If so you should know I don’t live in New York City but upstate in a rural town. That was also 40 years ago and even though sewer service is available I keep the septic to avoid the hook up expense. Many people from “the city” consider us to be out in the wilderness under threat of Indian attack but we haven’t needed the National Guard yet. :p

I’m capable of taking my garbage to the town dump myself without military assistance. :s

anybody want a red TLX? Did a nice detail. Must have replaced or refinished the one wheel that got all curbed up. Factoring in all the normal expenses plus doing that, not a whole lot of markup. But it does look good.

    https://www.carvana.com/vehicle/1539595

but so far, in nearly a month, I have not come close to missing having a 2nd car. Still barely getting enough use to keep the remaining car exercised. And that one, at 7 months old (next week) still hasn't cracked 2,600 miles.

one of my favorite expressions at work: "your lack of planning is not a crisis for me"!

I actually asked my wife last weekend when the last time she drove her new car, and she couldn't actually remember. I think of the 2,600 miles, she maybe put on 200? I did the rest.

There is no lack of planning - there is a lack of execution!

My moms car is in CA, and if I can ever get out there, I can drive it back to Colorado. My sister is even getting some of the issues resolved for me.

Besides, I have two friends here in Colorado who each have an extra car, who I'm sure would allow me to borrow one if I absolutely had to.

Eventually you reach or exceed the capacity of the car to handle the power anyway. Chassis, tires, driveline. So the $ goes into bragging rights not more speed. And the jersey turnpike only seems like the autobahn, but it really isn’t. So you can only use some of the power anyway on most performance cars.

@xwesx it does seem like new tires wear a little bit more than average when they’re brand new, like they have to get broken into the vehicle they’re mounted on. Don’t know if that’s borne out by evidence, though.

That’s nice. About the same mileage and price of my 2000 Sebring. I originally went looking for a Lebaron but good condition, low mileage ones were pretty scarce. Having a standard shift is unusual and could make that a fun weekend toy. Color is fine, your wife might surprise you. I bet it goes for more than $2200 though. I’ve noticed that the sweet spot for older cars is about 18 year. That’s the point where they have depreciated all they are going to and they haven’t yet reached the point of nostalgia where someone is willing to bid up the price. That Labaron probably would have sold for $2,000 5 years ago but it will probably go for about $4k by the time the auction is over.

It was a joke son, a joke I tell ya. 😎

My first new car was a 1985 Colt. Turbo package, without the turbo. Most grip I ever had in a car, because it came with Yokohama A008 tires. Basically summer tires designed for showroom stock racing. Looked vaguely like these. Amazing stick, when it was warm. Not much cold, and once I got on the snow with them it was like being on 4 toboggans. Actually slid right off the parkway in some slush.

Impossible to overdrive those with 68 HP though. Off ramps were fun, and handy since important to keep up momentum.

$200 for a new one. Tires have 18K miles. Already down to 5/32.

Costco has a deal on Michelin Pilot 4 A/S. $622+tax installed

I’m pretty sure Mrs. @breld curbed this tire, and I just missed it, until now. ;)

Does Kia use Yokohama tires? This may be a part of Yokohama/ Kia / Kia finance scam... just sayin...
My Kia had Michelins. Either way I won't fault a tire manufacturer for the shenanigans between dealerships and finance companies.

I think the dealership GM said something like "we haven't lost a Key FOB in the 7 years I and my lease return manager have worked here." Of course my thought was "well... then you were due!" And Also "I can't afford $350 mistakes once every 7 years, so what I really mean, is I'm lying about the 7 years, and this happens all the time and would ruin my bottom line to pay for these mistakes, so I'll make up stories about not losing any in years."

There are still some honest people in this world, believe it or not. I guarantee the GM at Kia of El Cajon isn't one of them. I'd bet the farm on that.

anybody want a red TLX? Did a nice detail. Must have replaced or refinished the one wheel that got all curbed up. Factoring in all the normal expenses plus doing that, not a whole lot of markup. But it does look good.

but so far, in nearly a month, I have not come close to missing having a 2nd car. Still barely getting enough use to keep the remaining car exercised. And that one, at 7 months old (next week) still hasn't cracked 2,600 miles.

Ew, no thanks. Stickguy cheek-marks on the driver's seat. :D

@xwesx it does seem like new tires wear a little bit more than average when they’re brand new, like they have to get broken into the vehicle they’re mounted on. Don’t know if that’s borne out by evidence, though.

I sure hope so. I has been quite a while since I bought a new set of "summer" tires (e.g., all-seasons that get 2.5 seasons of use), so I don't really recall the wear pattern.

For $30K large I'm looking at low mile Golf R's and S4's. But it might explain why I haven't bought one yet. Might need to up to $33K.

Someone on the east coast should get this. Someone commented the panel gaps and fitments are 100% better than their Tesla, and I think they might be underestimating that percentage figure.

I do love those Legends. If that was a 5 speed, I would be really interested. But likely not willing to pay the price it would likely be bid up to.

1 owner southern car. So no salt. Perfect situation.

Those K cars rotted out fast in the north. I couldn’t find one in my area that didn’t have a Swiss cheese body.

That Lebaron is up to $3500 with 5 days left. I may have to revise my $4k estimated sales price.
