This looks like it was maybe a VW Press car based on the Carfax. MSRP was $31-$32.
Price is fair.
I’d be more interested if (1) it wasn’t red, and (2) it wasn’t a press car. I’ve seen the YouTube reviews and those cars did not live an easy life.
I'm not convinced that being a press car makes it a no-go. It sounds a lot like people who dislike the idea of buying a former rental. Yes, they may have been driven hard. But, now that cars have rev limiters and other controls to prevent people from really damaging them, it's unlikely they've sustained any permanent damage, other than brakes and tires (which are easily checked).
I watched a Top Gear episode where they rented a Lincoln Town Car, a Mustang and a Yaris. They drove them through the desert over rocks and through a mud bog. (The car returned to the rental agency with the least damage wins). They finally reached a cliff. The Town Car had been modified with air suspension and a winch on the back. He tied the winch lead off and winched it down the rock face where it came to rest on its grille.
The Mustang driver had a blow up bouncy castle installed at the bottom of the cliff and then attached a wing to the roof of the Mustang and pushed it off the side of the cliff. It did land on the bouncy castle but did not fare well overall.
They brought in a crane to lift the Lincoln away from the cliff and then attached 4 straps to the Yaris to lower it down. The two straps on the back bumper came loose and it was lowered onto its grille and then its four wheels after it finally stopped swinging.
The Lincoln and Yaris were driven to the rental agency. They only dropped off the trunk lid of the Mustang.
So I guess it depends on who the renters were...and I sure hope they bought the damage insurance.
I may need to hold out for a 2019 or 2020 model. Wouldn’t be the worst thing to skip the first year of that model, and I noticed the m40i got a much nicer steering wheel in 2019. And while I’m at it, why not get the increased power for 2020?
So it’s a SAV. Is that a new class of vehicle?
BMW has called them SAVs for as long as I can remember.
Sport Activity Vehicle. -they try to emphasize that they are for those with an active lifestyle. Yes it’s silly.

I would laugh if BMW really came up with such an absurd name. This is the SUV you know and is considered an SUV all over the world. Sport Activity Vehicle is just the name BMW has put to draw attention to be distinguished from the others. Frankly, I'm sorry. If I had money, I wouldn't buy it.

I would not worry about a 2018 - it's a tried and true motor.
You will only have it for a few months anyway... Just sayin...😂
Honestly though, if you have a Macan and like it, why swap? The lure of cash in your pocket perhaps
Oh, I just thought of a good reason for me to not get a white BMW SUV - I whacked a deer in the last one that I had. I also whacked a deer in a white BMW 528xi.
Technically the first deer ran into the side of my driver side front fender on the X5. The other deer ran into the side of my passenger side front fender in the sedan.
Maybe I should avoid white BMWs?
I did hit a deer on the highway in a Lexus sedan- it tried to run across traffic. I hit it square with my front bumper and its body smashed my windshield.
My M235i is my first white car period. My wife won’t buy a silver car after her Aspen Silver E39 5er was rear-ended multiple times. Every time she was stopped and sitting in traffic.

I have to believe that was staged or the cops would have been called.

Yes, it comes down to feeling compelled to backtrack on the car budget creep that happened during 2020 (I blame the pandemic 😀). (And it’s a Cayenne by the way as opposed to a Macan). Though the X3 not only could replace the Cayenne for utility, but also the sportiness of the Supra...if I were to replace that down the road with something a bit more tame like...a Miata.
Staying the course is absolutely an option too. And probably the appropriate one right now.
Wasn’t it you @mjfloyd1 that said something recently about “loving what you have”? That resonated with me...but I struggle to follow it.
That’s interesting, $50k for a used one. My company bought a bunch of X3s in 2019 for $43k (sticker $47k). I suppose they weren’t as optioned up as that one.

Your company almost certainly bought the 30i four cylinder model. The M40i is a six with enough hp to keep things interesting.

I did indeed say a that...right before I traded.
My jeep was fun for 2.25 years. It had a recall to swap out the steering stabilizer. It was as solid as a rock before the swap, but now if I go around a sweeper and hit a pot hole, I get the dreaded death wobble.
I also will enjoy having a panoramic sunroof instead of the freedom tops.
I forgot that it was (note that I used past tense) a Red Hot Chili Pepper.
Nice that you are contemplating a multi car swap. Odd that you revisit so often. But your cash, your choice.
I've pined for a car (RS7) and once I had it, it wasn't all that I had expected. Maybe you share some of that too?
I love the Raleigh area, or the Triad. My daughter went to college down there (midway between Greensboro and Raleigh). Great place to be.
Nashville has gotten overgrown and pricy. Clarksville is an interesting town. Something like that. Or Murfreesboro. Even Knoxville.
I did go to Greeneville a few years ago. Loved it. My wife might be OK there. She would die in the lowlands though in the summer!
Where did she go, Elon? I do find the Triangle pretty appealing, but not as fond of the Triad. I spent 11 years in Wilmington, and given the right opportunity there or in the Triangle, I'd go back to NC in a second.
I have to believe that was staged or the cops would have been called.
Everything on Top Gear and The Grand Tour is staged and scripted.
It is amazing to me how many people believe that when something breaks on one of the vehicles they are abusing in a segment that it is fixed by one of the presenters.

What drove that home to me was re-reading some of the magazine and online reviews of my M235i. There are just very few cars that do the things I want a car to do as well as my 2er can. And for $500 I can get a Dinan flash tune that adds 83 hp and 109 lb ft of torque.

Yeah, I think so. Law of diminishing returns and all that. It’s not the first time I’ve “ramped up” impulsively and then felt compelled to back down again (and then do it all over again).
I thought my wife was insightful and said that the Volvo would be a great way to scale back on an SUV we still really like, and then keep the Supra or get an M2. And if I wanted to get back to a “lesser” fun car like a Miata, then the X3 m40i would be great.

Or, do both! Pick one now then swap later!
2025 Jetta GLI Autobahn, 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xE
that is my favorite Volvo color combo right now I think (though I have been not fond of their recent slate of color options). I just want it on something smaller. V60 or XC40.
For some reason, Audi has my wife's name on their mailing list. So got a little pamphlet about season of Audi event in the mail yesterday. Sadly no test drive incentive (I think Covid killed that kind of program for now). The humorous part to me was the car they were pushing. An RS7. (the SUV one), and I am afraid to even ask what those go for.

Well.. only sample of one but we absolutely love ours! Same trim as ours too.
I don’t think that one has the Harman Kardon stereo. I’d say that is one option you really want, the base stereo isn’t that good.

It would definitely be a very familiar place to return to, and a welcome one at that. It’s been awhile since I’ve driven the XC90, but I’ve gotta assume it is pretty much identical to my V90.
I think you’re right on the Harman Kardon - I actually was not overly impressed with the B&O, but I bet I would appreciate it compared to the base stereo.

The only small knock I have coming from an Enclave is room. It’s on the smaller side for interior room for a 3 row. In your case I’d assume it’s bigger than a Cayenne so it will be fine.

Typical anymore, I think. I gave the Ford dealer a bad review after they lost my Mustang on the lot. No follow up. Ford corporate reached out to me to ask whether there was any follow-up from the dealer, and I told them no. The fact that corporate asked suggests that the dealer was supposed to follow up to ask what went wrong, and didn't. (It was Oxmoorons Ford, for those of you in the Louisville area.)

I’m guessing that $2,145 is what they charged out to CPO the car (I noticed all tires were replaced too). But yeah, maybe the previous owner was dinged for some of that too on lease return.

The Cayenne and XC90 are almost identical in length, somewhat surprisingly. The Cayenne handles extremely well (though I suppose that shouldn’t be surprising).
was bored so just watched a few video reviews on the new F150. I still have no need for a beast of a full sized truck, but that seems to be a really nice package with all the updates. But man, are those things pricey. A relatively stripped work truck spec 4WD (an XL STX) is about $43k with sticker package discounts. Skip the package, might be able to keep it to $40k. But to get stuff that I would think is bare minimum equipment (an XLT) and you easily blow right past $50k. I imagine if you get to limited or platinum you are looking at $70k no problem if you check a few boxes.
I just realized today while cleaning up my files that we have a personal record 5 free-and-clear car titles in hand. 6 vehicle title if you count my motorcycle.
'11 GMC Sierra 1500; '98 Alfa 156 2.0TS; '08 Maser QP; '67 Coronet R/T; '13 Fiat 500c; '20 S90 T6; '22 MB Sprinter 2500 4x4 diesel; '97 Suzuki R Wagon; '96 Opel Astra; '11 Mini Cooper S

I must have missed that story. How do you lose any car let alone a Mustang on a dealer’s lot? Did you get it back? How long did it take for the lot boy to return it?

I did a quick look around and the GT is leasing for about $700/mo. Take that with a grain of salt because I’m clueless about leases. I guess you can’t outright lease but have to do some kind of “balloon” agreement? Confusing.

Sport Activity Vehicle. -they try to emphasize that they are for those with an active lifestyle. Yes it’s silly.
Here is a 2020 with leather and adaptive suspension- just in case you get back to Chicago

You will only have it for a few months anyway... Just sayin...😂
Honestly though, if you have a Macan and like it, why swap? The lure of cash in your pocket perhaps
Maybe it is me???

Staying the course is absolutely an option too. And probably the appropriate one right now.
Wasn’t it you @mjfloyd1 that said something recently about “loving what you have”? That resonated with me...but I struggle to follow it.

It is amazing to me how many people believe that when something breaks on one of the vehicles they are abusing in a segment that it is fixed by one of the presenters.

I thought my wife was insightful and said that the Volvo would be a great way to scale back on an SUV we still really like, and then keep the Supra or get an M2. And if I wanted to get back to a “lesser” fun car like a Miata, then the X3 m40i would be great.

I don’t think that one has the Harman Kardon stereo. I’d say that is one option you really want, the base stereo isn’t that good.

I’m guessing that $2,145 is what they charged out to CPO the car (I noticed all tires were replaced too). But yeah, maybe the previous owner was dinged for some of that too on lease return.
