Tighter by a considerable amount than the Supra, but of course I knew that from previous experience. The telescoping steering wheel that they added in 2019 helps a bit with driving position so it's a welcome addition.
Definitely different driving experiences - I just looked at specs out of curiousity...the Supra has almost 1,000 pounds and 18" in length over the Miata. And of course the Supra has like twice the hp (and more than twice the torque).
That ///M sticker adds at least 20 hp to @breld Supra

Drove a 2020 Mini Cooper Countryman S today and actually really liked the size. Visibility was pretty decent, it scooted down the turnpike with no turbo lag whatsoever but, and it's a big but...the audio system was below average, totally unacceptable in a vehicle priced like they are. Also had the dual sun/moon roofs which I can take or leave. Maybe going CPO or leasing is the best way to go with a Mini Cooper. Leasing is just so foreign to us as we've never even considered it, ever. Only thing is I'd need to be super careful and not put any after market goodies in it. But loved the size and outfitted the right way, something I could easily do. Guessing that since it had the 2.0 turbo, there was no turbo lag like I have with my 1.8 turbo in the Golf. Putting the gear lever in "S" mode gets rid of this lag, but then I need to remember to go back into "D" mode once I get up to speed or the rpm's ill be running much higher making it shift down later. This will result in lower mpg's and maybe that's not what I want. Just have to remember to go back into "D" once I get up to speed going forward. But, it's definitely on the short list now after the new upcoming VW GTI with the new dash and shifter, a 2022 model I think. Waiting to try that because if it's as good as I think it's going to be, then I might just make it happen and not look back. Also drove a 2020 MW 330i and have to admit, it was fun! Anxious to also try the X2 because it's almost the perfect size and think it'll be a hoot to drive.

MSRP on my Mustang GT Premium was probably around $40k, and the sound quality was also terrible considering what the original owner likely paid. I did some research on the forums, and quite a few people blamed the integrated head unit. Not wanting to swap that out if I could avoid it, I spent about $60 for two new pairs of speakers from Crutchfield, and it sounded great thereafter.

Sounds like you found a suitable replacement for the Golf. If the Audio System really bothers you, then have the speakers swapped out. Have OEM speakers put back in before you get rid of it.
I know leasing is a foreign idea to you. I know the idea of making payments bothers you. You’ll have to check with our gracious & handsome hosts, but I think MiNI has a 7,500 mile per year lease program. You can also do a “one pay” lease and save yourself some money by paying for the entire lease all at once (it buys down the interest rate).

Back in the '60s my dad leased an Olds 88 (great car) and had that same problem. He disconnected the speedo cable for the last few months. Problem solved.
My FIL tells that one of his MGMs, back when it had the analog odometer, rolled over, and when he traded it after 4 yrs, they thought it was 28k instead of 128k. He didn’t argue.

My Parent’s neighbor told a tale similar to that. He claimed to have a salesman friend that put 40 to 50K a year on his cars. He would lease them and right around the miles allotted would take off the speedo cable and factory tires. Then he would pile the miles on and when returning the car would put the factory tires back on.
Seems plausible but always thought it was a tall tale.
I am getting excited about looking in a couple of months. Hopefully life opens up a bit (maybe I need to tie it into finally getting the vaccine?) Probably not going to be a quick process!
Did free up some saved money though. We had a big family trip planned (booked over a year ago) for this April. A week in Sicily (on a tour). That finally got rebooked for April 2022. So instead of the final 90% payment due this month, it is now due a year from now. Hopefully by then travelling is not a problem.
Been browsing what is available locally. Boy prices are still high, inventory sparse. Low mileage cars especially. If you want a car with 40k+, still expensive. Though my Passat is hardly anything special at least the price was reasonable as a CPO with 18k and they gave me a solid trade in amount for my 7 yr old Accord with 99k.

Well, folks. Life is what happens when you're busy making other plans, right?
A word on using a "guy" for things. If you truly do not know what you are doing, or are working on a car by yourself, please take adequate precautions or have a "guy" to help you. My Dad crushed his right hand a day ago working on one of his cars and had to be flown to the hospital - I say crushed, but that is the least gory way of putting it and I want to spare everyone the visual. After 14 hours of surgery they have successfully reconstructed his hand. Not out of the woods, possibly many more procedures to go, and a long road of physical recovery. He may never regain full function of his hand for things like writing, typing, etc. let alone be able to drive a manual transmission again.
It looks like his BMW 530xiT 6MT is going to be coming to me soon for temporary custody, since they need the parking and don't want to have to play musical cars when no one can drive it (my Dad is the only one who can drive it).
I love our hobby, but please be careful folks.

There was talk on these forums back in the day from a bunch of people who leased first-gen Ford Expeditions that the odo could be made to stop counting by disconnecting a single wire.
From what i can gather,he lost control of it pushing it out of the garage. It was on a slight incline and he tried to stop it from hitting a tree and crushed his hand.

that is the part of looking that I am not looking forward to. Especially since I am not selling at the same time, and getting an inflated trade in price (I already locked that in!) Hopefully by the spring, when I need one, the market has stabilized a bit. Otherwise, might be looking at leasing again!
though there is still a chance at some point my father gets his privileges revoked, and I would inherit his lease, for however long it has to go. Of course, with my luck, that would happen 1 week after I buy myself something.

Didn’t the GT Premium come with the 500 watt Shaker system? You’d think that would provide some good sound. My base only has a 140 watt system and for my tin ear that’s usually fine. I must admit though, the Boze system in my 21 year old Sebring does sound a bit better.

I think there are devices you can buy online these days that turn off the recording of mileage without disabling the speedometer. I assume that would constitute fraud if you got caught though.
