    Six units. That is my upstairs neighbor’s compressor.

    We are the rightmost unit, first floor.

    Nice looking place. Seems like a convenient location. Quiet over there, but not too far to boardwalk or beach. Lot more space then you had at the campsite too!

    We love the location. Very quiet dead end (to the bay) street and across from the harbor. It’s also not far from the bridge and very easy access.

    Much larger indeed. 1600 sq ft vs 400

    The upper 2 floors in my house are 2700 sq ft and the basement, about 60% finished space, is just over 1200 sq ft.
    I keep all areas at least somewhat cooled, basement is usually the coolest area.
    I've been leaving the door to the basement open figuring the airflow will move some of the basement air to the rest of the house.
    At night I put the 2nd floor thermostat on 70 and leave the 1st floor on 76.
    When I get up in the morning, 1st and 2nd floors register 70 degrees.
    I turn the 2nd floor up to 73, but it usually takes until noon or so to get to that temp.
    We just had the hottest July since reporting started.
    Last month's bill, 32 days, was $211.

    Back of the house where the living and master BR is faces west, has huge windows and 9 ft ceilings. In the Georgia summer the downstairs unit runs continually from about noon till 9. We keep it at 75. At 70 my wife would be in a sweater and wrapped in a blanket. :smile:

    @explorerx4 - I think you are correct. Is there a way to tell if I lift up the hood? There’s no markings on the valve covers. I’d also say that since it is a lower spec XLT that it does have the 2.7. Punches WAY above its weight class is a good way to describe it.

    @nyccarguy,
    If there is an owner's manual, doubtful, there are underhood schematics showing where things are.

    you can tell if it is a turbo or 5.0 since turbo will say Ecoboost. Probably unlikely a rental company would have gotten the rarer, more expensive 3.5 motor.

    You may be able to use a VIN decoder to confirm the size of the engine. In the instrumented tests I’ve seen, with an aggressive launch, there’s not much difference between the 2.7, 3.5, and 5.0. I’m assuming rear traction is the limiting factor.

    If you want the first floor to be cooler, close the door to the basement. The coolest air on the first floor is at the floor. Therefore, by opening the door you’re allowing the coolest air to drop to the basement which Is already the coolest part of the house. And no, the basement cool air will not rise to the upper floors unless you force it up there. It won’t go upstairs naturally.

    If you monitor your electric bill you may see a smaller bill but you’ll find your comfort will be realized sooner.

    I know it is an EcoBoost V6. Process of elimination that it’s the 2.7 because rental spec.

    @jmonroe1,
    I have lots of air returns, so I think leaving the basement door open helps to even out the overall air distribution.
    Another thing I noticed is that I rarely have to empty the basement dehumidifier any more.

    If you say so but physics says that cold air falls. No help is needed for that to happen.

    There should be a label under the hood that provides the engine identification and often oil specs.

    @jmonroe1,
    The point is, the warm inside air is getting drawn down and pushed up as cool air helping the AC run less often.
    That's my theory based on my electric bill and how the basement feels.

    Does cool air fall or does hot air rise? :)

  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,350
    well, the air is not just sitting in the house. There are vents pushing it out and sucking it in.

    My wife and I played tennis together tonight. She beat me 7-5, 5-1. We took the F150. I mentioned to my wife how I really like the size and I think something like this would be a great family hauler now that the kids are getting older, plus the very large trunk once you have a tonneau cover. We could get her a sedan so she doesn’t have to drive a 3 row SUV. She thought it was a good idea. I was shocked I didn’t get more back lash.

    it makes sense. Easier when the kids are bigger and no car seats needed. As long as the 3rd row is not really required. Certainly can carry a lot of stuff.

    And, the turbo engine is the killer app. Might want to look at the 2022 Tundra, which is supposed to be similarly equipped in the powertrain department.

    The 2.7L ecoboost has the oil filter housing on the top of the engine towards the front. The 3.5L has it mounted lower on the engine. The 5.0L wouldn’t have any turbo hardware.

    Let the fun begin! Unfortunately as @stickguy noted, it will be delayed fun. I guess you could ask about ordering one and whatever your wife decides on. May not see the deep discounts we got on the Jeeps but at least you won’t have to settle for whatever you find on the lot.
