I really don't like the BMW digital IP graphics- which is one of the reasons I passed on a G20 M340i as well as a G42 M240i. Configuration options are essentially nil and the counter-clockwise tachometer is just ridiculous. I'll say it again, BMW has lost the plot...

I agree completely.
I've had this BMW for a little over 3 months now. I told my wide the other day that if I had taken a longer test drive, I wouldn't have bought it. I'm not sure how long it's going to stick around.
I now have a registered dealer account with Copart, ACV Auctions, and BacklotCars. There is some stuff at Copart I'm interested in. Of course, I'd have to get off my butt and go check them out.

I didn't really like that report, it is based on "iSeeCars analyzed over 14.9 million cars SOLD IN 2021 to determine the most reliable models based on their long-term reliability with the highest percentage of cars reaching 200,000 miles.". 40.9 million used vehicles were sold that year and a lot more vehicles were not sold in that year. I'm guessing their report doesn't include private party sales.

The "pickup sticks" between the speedo and tach would disappear, were it my car. If I used the second key, perhaps I could program that to my profile? But, I drive it infrequently, so no big deal.

My bil had several Crown Vics as company cars that easily went over 200k and were still in good shape and ran well when they were sold off. He had an Acura RL bought with 30k that he gave to his sons to drive to college at around 300k and finally sold it when the ac quit at 320k.

I think I'm in the right to comment that the guy saying he's invested $8K in the car is misleading since part of that is an insurance claim to repair "extra" damage done to the car, and insurance paid for it to boot.
I just can't see how you'd include body shop costs in "investment" totals towards maintenance.
Doesn't make any sense.
Now another question.... can saying I've invested $55K in a 8 year old S4 be a good sales tactic?

Smaller cars get hit more as bad drivers tend to less easily see/notice them. Truckers have it easy, even the blind see those (unless it's a blind computer driving). Many cars that don't reach 200K do so only because bad drivers take them out by totaling them.

Wow that doesn’t sound great, @venture. Also curious your thoughts.
Well first of all, that was supposed to be "my wife" not "my wide". Holy cow she's skinny too.
Usually by this time I am getting settled in with a new car. Things are becoming second nature. With this BMW I'm still in unfamiliar territory.
There is no one major thing, just many small niggling things. No adaptive cruise control at this price point is weird. When speccing the car on the web site it isn't clear what option/package has adaptive cruise.
Little things:
Where's the radio presets? I know I set 2 stations I listen to mostly. I had the Genius show me, but I forgot as soon as I left the dealer.
I haven't had a car of any brand in about the last 10 years, or more, that did not have a specific place to store your sunglasses...normally in the overhead console. This one doesn't.
The brake pedal and gas pedal are so close together you have to be careful.
Tire pressures. I know I have it. I've even seen it a few times. Trying to get it to show is a pain. If you use the talk button and ask it to show the pressures, it responds that all tire pressures are OK. Sheesh!
I know there are more, but that's off the top of my head. Yes. I know. I could spend time wading through the owner's manual or looking on YouTube. I don't have time or the desire to study on how to do mundane things. It shouldn't be that difficult.
Maybe I'll get over it. Maybe I won't. I know I've been looking at Web sites to see what's out there.
and this explains why a lot of people stick with a brand they are comfortable with. At least the smart ones that stay consistent model to model with the basic controls. For decades, you could get into any Honda and just intuitively use it. Smart design, and the same basics as the rest of the line.
If you can imagine, iDrive was even less intuitive in the early days. But my wife had similar frustrations about our X1 when we had it.
I hope you’re able to find happiness but you also know that all of us have flipped cars for less justifiable reasons than those you’ve listed…
The iDrive in my 2014 M235i was great- the problem is the latest cars have buried a lot of functions in overly complex submenus- especially so since BMW seems hellbent on eliminating as many physical buttons and switches as possible.

before we got the RDX we test drove an Outback. I think it was a deal breaker for my wife that the "button" to turn off the auto stop/start (had to be done every time) was buried about 3 menus deep on the touch screen. It was absurd.
oh, plus she would not deem to drive a "station wagon" too!

At least Subaru listened. There was a software upgrade for something I don't remember, but they put a button on an easily accessible spot to turn off the stop/start. It had to be done every time, one easily found button and you were done.
I don't mind the stop/start and, on this car, it is almost unnoticeable.
This jogged my memory - Another thing I don't like is if you don't remember to push that button, it will shut off on you when you get out for anything and leave it running. I stopped at a dumpster to throw something away. I opened the trunk, threw it in, got back in the car and it had shut off. I'm starting to remember to push the button, but this thing is very overprotective.
I don't mind the stop/start on the Maverick. I have noticed that it will almost always stay turned off the entire stop, even at a very long light. I remember having a Malibu as a rental with one of the earlier systems, and it had a very short maximum off time--I want to say it was 60 seconds or something.
