They offer inspection services, etc. Looking at this Countryman, that came back to me. It is being sold AS IS, so no post-sale inspection is allowed. Alright. You can, however, call the inspector who graded it. I hate the phone, but dialed. It was a very informative convo. He said "it is faint, but there is noise coming from, I believe, the head. And I also pulled several EVAP leak codes." It does run and drive, but the noise concerned him. He took a video and sent it to me. Seems to sound Ok from inside the car, but it is pretty darned loud inside the engine bay. Could be something simple, but I don't need another project right now, so I'll have to pass on it.

I was working on the wife again about adjusting the fleet once the new maverick finally shows up. Assuming first that we like it (I know I like the package, just need to like the drivetrain). If so, and we use that all the time running around local since it should get 2x the MPG of the Acura, that car will pretty much sit in the garage.
so I floated the grand plan to take advantage of inflated resale value and flip that for a smaller "fun" car. Not necessarily a convertible (Miata), though something like Laura's pop just got would probably be OK (she does like BMWs). I used the Mini as an example (well, "A" mini, not "that" mini). She liked that when I looked at them in the past. Just need to make sure that she is comfortable driving at least 1 of the fleet!
her response was "I like my car" She even threatened to actually go drive it, though in the 10 months since we moved, I don't think she has driven more than 10 times total.
work in progress. Maybe I should up the ante and get her into a 2 series convertible or a Cayman to get her excited! Then bait and switch her.
we live pretty much in the country now. So many fun driving back roads, it is a shame not having a sports car to use on them.
For her, an RDX to a 2er? That's a big change, for her... As I mentioned, the X3 dwarfs the M240 in the garage.

at this point, she does not really have a car. Mostly just rides in whatever I happen to be driving. She hardly ever goes any place alone now, and when we are together I usually drive. So it is a different situation than when we got the RDX (she had a real commute into her office). Keeping it is more of an emotional (symbolic?) issue really. So getting a replacement that she really likes is important. And that she does not mind driving (though I am sure she would have no problem with a Maverick).
probably not happening any time soon, but it is kind of a waste having them both not getting enough use. Hence my earlier plan of unloading both for a Ridgeline, and having the everyday "nice" car, travel car, and truck all be the same car! I suspect though she would find that to be too bulky for her to be comfortable driving.
That's like my wife ... I made some noise about trading in the Subaru for something newer, flashier, more luxurious (when I get back to earning a regular paycheck again, that is), and got the same answer. "I like my car".

DANGIT! I found something else really interesting. I wasn't shopping for inventory because my wife is already gonna kill me. But was keeping an eye out for a Countryman for sis. In doing so, I came upon a 2011 Countryman S AWD MANUAL with under 60k. Talk about rare. Good condition report, good history (1 owner, no red flags), and they are selling [relatively] cheap (because, I assume, they don't want a manual trans on their lot). UGH!! What to do?!
Buy it, obviously!
Edit: I gotta remember that I'm always at least twelve hours behind the curve on these things....

Preach it Farmer. I have watched enough Youtube videos from car dealers that deal with auctions to know that there is usually a reason a car is running through the auction, especially if the bids are suspiciously low.

Out of all my dozens of trade-ins, only one was a potential disaster. If I’ve learned anything by now, it is that my cars must have been the very rare exceptions!

saw this on BaT. Love the colors, and the car. looks very clean and tidy, and (probably too low) low miles. But that price is really getting up there. Are these really that collectible?
garage space is my biggest concern since I did not hold our for a 3 car garage (the hunt was so frustrating we are lucky we found anything!). I hate parking a nice car outside but if I get a toy, the truck would have to live outdoors. an old beater, that would be fine and a bigger truck wouldn't fit in my garage anyway!
speaking of miles, last weekend right at about 38 months the RDX finally rolled over 20K miles. And would still be a bit under if I hadn't sold my car 2 months ago so it is doing single duty.
I lucked out with garage space. It's local, cheap (under $100/month cheap), has 24/7 access, and is heated. The fact that it's rented out by an extremely nice widow versus a real estate conglomerate is an added bonus. I keep the Honda there in the winter and then over the season will swap between that and the BMW as desired.

———————————————— Probably true but when I sold Mrs. j’s 2012 Legacy Limited with around 27K miles (silver over black) for essentially the same car in 2019 for a 2018 Legacy Limited (burgundy over beige) because I wanted that color combo, the 2012 was as perfect as you could get for a car that age. When the Carvana guy came to get the 2012 he couldn’t get over how well it looked and ran. I remember him saying, “most folks are looking to buy cars like this not sell them. We’re not going to have any trouble selling this car. I doubt it will last more than a day or two when we advertise it”.
When Mrs. j heard that she said, “see, I don’t know why I let you talk me into getting rid of it”. For obvious reasons I didn’t say it but I was thinking about how shrewd I was.

looks like the Cayman won't be the only punch this month. The Ford tracker update within the last hour that my Maverick arrived at the dealer. I should be hearing from them shortly about working out logistics.
timing is good. The wife took off Thursday and Friday next week, so planning a trip down Thursday would be perfect.
Yeah, but every bid in the last two minutes extends the auction by 2 minutes. So, it’s not quite like eBay. It’s more like a real auction, though. At the end you have to make quick decisions.
Fortunately, no one came over me, so I didn’t have any more decisions to make. Looking at all the action towards the end, I’m surprised no one did.
