I helped a friend pick up their new car today, a 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland 4xe. As he was driving his loaner car, I got the keys to the Jeep and drove it 50 miles back to Denver.
Nice, nice car. Even though it’s only a 4-cyl under the hood, it moves along quite nicely. Fully equipped with adaptive cruise, heated and ventilated seats, a camera in place of the rear view mirror, a huge sunroof, wireless charging, and more. Comfortable ride, given that it has the optional air suspension.
Like @corvette, I almost had a run in with a CR-V. They wanted to change lanes, but I was occupying it. Fortunately, their blind spot warning kicked in and we averted disaster.
@corvette, if your investments were anything like mine in 2022 (I was negative for the year). But my financial advisor made money off of my account. You gotta love a system where you lose money but they still make some money. I’m convinced I’m on the wrong side of my account.
If you lost money or made just a little, I hope you gave them a piece of your mind. That otta get them on the straight and narrow for 2023.

You know, if you need that much potting soil to fill up your wife’s beds you ought to visit Griffin’s Greenhouse supply off Broadway in Schenectady. They sell 6 cu ft. bales of the stuff. Buying that expensive name brand soil in small bags will cost you a fortune.
I would need 6 or 7 of those. How much do they go for? and I assume I still have to pick them up?
I haven’t bought any of those since I retired in 2020 but I seem to remember they were under $40 when I bought a few hundred at a time.
There’s also a supply house (Davis Seed) on Railroad Ave. in Albany that might carry bulk soil.
would have cost me more money. plus having to move something that big (dirt is heavy!)
Lowes had these on sale for $7.50/bag, plus my 5% off for using the Lowes CC. 1.5 CF per bag.
these are 3.8CF? so a little more than 2 of my bags? look bigger so maybe I am not reading the Canadian measurements correctly!
Those are 3.8cu.ft. compressed bails which fluff up to 6cu.ft. When unbagged. They weigh about 60lbs. But if you get them wet can exceed 150 lbs. (ask me how I know).

I always wondered: just how much of a company does one own where it makes sense to attend a shareholders meeting?
It's more of an event..
Unless you are on the board, or an activist, there is no reason to attend any shareholder meeting, otherwise.
@corvette My last time coming through St Louis (when I bought the GTI), I took 270 across, heading East. It was around 6:30-7:30 pm, and worked out well.
I actually passed through Omaha Friday, but in the morning…I flew out to Chicago to drive home with my son after he finished up his sophomore year at college. Nice, easy drive…stopped right outside Omaha Thursday night and then finished the trek home Friday. His Tiguan continues to impress me. Nice comfortable ride, responsive engine, and the safety/autonomous features make highway cruising pleasant.
My youngest son finally made a decision for his college experience…he’ll start at CU Boulder in the fall. He was deciding between University of San Diego and CU…USD was beautiful and he agonized over the decision for a week, but realized he liked the campus here at CU better, enough so to give up the beach.
So we’ll have a couple college students overlapping for a couple years.
I dunno, the Dunder Mifflin shareholder meeting of a few years ago looked like a lot of fun!

We also feel your pain, our trio all started last fall, two are finishing up their first year this week. The third, who decided to go the trade school route, will be done the end of July. He's already talking to several dealerships not too far from home, so fingers crossed for him. The school seems to have a great placement program.
One of my kids started out as a sophomore at ND due to credits for AP results. They wanted their 'Victory Lap', although could have graduated after 3 years. At least they got a double major.

I had 12 credit hours going into undergrad thanks to AP classes. One of the cool things my high school did was reimburse the AP test fee if you passed. I stayed in college four years and ended up with a double minor.

140,000 miles MORE? So what would that have brought the grand total to? That's crazy. Was the gauge cluster replaced? Or was it one of these devices that only adds 1 mile for every 20 miles you drive? How clean was the car? How many miles did it show on the odometer? That's scary.

We had all three in college at the same time but with scholarship money, Bright Futures Program & funds we had invested when they were born, all were able to do their four years with no student debt. Our oldest even had enough for her graduate work to all be paid while our pharmacist daughter had to take out loans as we didn't have that much left over for her.

Picked up brand new Toyota's the last couple of days and found out something very interesting, something that I'll probably do when I purchase my next vehicle. And that is getting a hybrid vehicle. Was totally blown away by how much power it had & reminded me of the EV driving experience. Drove a Corolla LE & a Corolla LE Hybrid back to back & was amazed at how much better the hybrid drove. Was like night & day & it made me realize that going hybrid next time is the way to go. The acceleration was exhilarating, reminded me of the driving experience in an EV vehicle like the Tesla & Polestar that we have at work. Must admit the tach went a bit crazy as it showed every movement I made with the accelerator...the tach never sit still untilI was coasting & then it went down to "0". Besides the crazy tach, couldn't find another issue I had with the vehicle. I'm betting that there will be a price premium by gong with a hybrid vehicle but as of now, think it's a price I don't mind paying! The shear fun I had will be worth the up-charge and the added mileage figures will be a welcome surprise. With just a half a tank on the Corolla, showed 300 miles left from that amount of petrol. So figuring at least a 600 mile range on a tankful of regular. And betting that once the engine is broken in and the tank being filled to the top, one might be able to get 650 miles of range! And that's something I could definitely live with!!! Really, the best part of my job is getting to try so many vehicles in the marketplace. I've been slowly finding out what I really do want next time around and now know that a hybrid is at the top of my list of features it'll have to have. Just driving the Corolla Hybrid put that "sh-t eating" grin on my face so I will pursue getting one going forward.

I bid on this car, in the last hour, and it was all I could do to not bump it, in the last minute. Pricey for the year, but it ticked all the boxes for me. And, actually brought less than I thought.
Nice Porsche. Almost good enough to overlook the black seats.
Cayman interiors usually come in a single color. So, if you get beige, you get beige carpets, beige dash, beige steering wheel. So, I'm out on lighter interior colors. Black, gray, navy are all okay, though.

It fits the aesthetic she wanted. At another distributor (that sells to the public), they had a different AS that was low $400s, or a Toto for $330. Those are all including the seat. The other distributor is cheaper, generally, but she found this frame and sink she liked at the one, and they had this toilet on display. By getting the toilet there, we went over the amount for free delivery, which helps a little.

No idea. They didn't have a pic of the odo but they were claiming 71k miles (which I was suspect of given the recovered seats and headliner), and clearvin said 211k.

So, I took the ATS to the dealer yesterday for a 6-month service, basically an oil change, a supposed check of a few dozen things, and this time, a brake service where they pull the wheels, lube the slide pins and check pad thickness. Since the car sits without much use a good chunk of the winter I thought that was worth doing.
This morning I was planning to go on a rare day-long road trip. After I got out of the neighborhood I got a message "Service Tire Pressure Monitoring System" and the tire pressures all showed as "-". I figured maybe it just needed a shutdown and restart and since I was going to get gas anyway I did that, but it solved nothing. So I decided there was no time like the present and went back to the dealer.
They figured the TPMS needed to relearn what was happening at each wheel so they got a tech and the gizmo they use for that and hey presto, it was working again. But why were the pressures shown so wonky? They were all way too high. "Maybe the original sensors are at end of life" someone offered. "All 4 at once?" I retorted. "I don't think so."
I figured maybe it needed to be driven a bit before they adjusted themselves, as I have seen that behavior previously with the GM system, so I drove home but with no change in the readings. In the driveway I got out my trusty Joe's Racing tire pressure gauge and checked. Rear wheels were at 43PSI, fronts at 37. When it went in they were at 32/36 F/R. I called the advisor and let him know somebody had a serious oops moment yesterday. Meanwhile, the road trip is now tomorrow.

I'm surprised the AS toilet was more expensive than the Toto. I thought Toto toilets were the Bugatti of water closets?

That is one feature I really appreciate and is lacking on the Audi and VW but the Acura has it as did my 08 HHR, the tire monitor displays individual tire pressure. No guessing which one is low or maybe leaking with a nail or something. It is also interesting to view the change in overall tire pressure temperature has on tires.

When I redid the kids bath in 2009, I also went with the higher seat and now that it's my main bathroom, so glad I did. I hardly ever use the master bath anymore as the elongated unit in there is so low, it hurts my spine getting up. As much as my other half complains about it, she hasn't asked me to replace it yet so waiting till that time comes, if ever. Now that I know there's a very good chance we'll be leaving by either late 2024 or sometime in 2025, not looking to pour a lot of funds into the abode. Will maintain what needs to be done, but no major kitchen redo now, and same goes for the master bath. Let the new owners pick what they want to make it their own. And if we end up doing the master bath, will deal with it if in fact it does happen.
