Went with my friend to the Headley-Whitney museum in Lexington to see the current exhibition (25 dog works by Jamie Wyeth and dog and cat works by other artists). They also had a portrait of EthanAlmighty, the namesake of Ethan's Law, an anti-animal cruelty law that was recently passed in our state, and Ethan himself was there (along with his owners) as an ambassador. A great experience, overall. We had lunch at Bella Notte, my favorite Italian restaurant from my law school days in Lexington, and that place is still great. No wait on a Sunday well after most churches had let out. Started the day with a full charge, arrived home with 14% remaining. There is a GM Energy fast charger at the Pilot Flying J about halfway between Louisville and Lexington, but I didn't need it.
We had a car accident with a crash involving a truck hauling pigs to slaughter. There is now a PETA billboard with a picture of a pig and “This would
never have happened if we were all Vegan”. Only in Bloomington.
MDX third row is for kids only. Pretty tight. Needs recall done and needs timing belt each 109k-ish miles. There are some torque converter issues in earlier ones and it feels like you are driving over rumble strips.
Question for everyone: daughter and hubby looking for used second vehicle as they are expecting their second child. Want a 3-row. They currently have a 2020 RAV4 PHEV, which they like very much. Second vehicle will have to sit out as they only have 1-car garage so they want used. Also price conscious. Saw an ad near them for a used MDX at a reasonable price. I’m not familiar with them. Anyone have one? Is the 3rd row actually usable?

That’s an Acura, right? Hardly a car for the price conscious. How about a 3 row domestic like a Chevy Traverse?

They are looking at those too. I suggested the GMC Acadia and the Buick Enclave. But I was surprised to find that used MDXes are not that expensive. All kind of in the same ballpark — mid 20’s for a 5 year old or so vehicle.

I don't trust the 3.6 as the miles get up there, especially without knowing the maintenance history (oil changes).
@corvette said: @mjfloyd1 - it’s funny they used that as an example, because I’ve heard that bacon is the #1 thing that causes people to abandon a vegetarian diet.
I neglected to mention that all the pigs on the hauler during the accident were killed in the accident. The sign probably makes a bit more sense now😵💫
They’ll check that out too. I think they are still coming to grips with the fact they are arriving at the minivan years.
I have purchased 3 different 3 row SUVs since 2011 and WISH I had bought a minivan. The 2011 Pilot was ok. I should have bought a Sienna V6 AWD in 2017 when it was time to get rid of the 2011 Pilot. I didn't realize how well built Toyotas are.
Whatever they are looking at, make sure they get it checked out by a mechanic 1st. Do their research. If they are looking at a vehicle that is priced well below market, there's a reason for it. I think @explorerx4 recommended https://carcomplaints.com/ at one time. It is a very informative website that mentions which cars have specific problems for specific years.

What the hell? Is that a joke? What's useable? The wheels and tires....maybe? Maybe the engine? Transmission is crushed. Frame is trash. If you could find $750 in usable parts on that, I'd be surprised.
Watching YouTube on my laptop the past few days has been annoying--I'm noticing a lot of dropped frames. No idea whether it's something on YouTube's end, an issue with Chrome, or an issue with macOS 15, which was recently released. My MacBook Air is only four years old, but it's the last of the Intel processor models. The CPU isn't maxed out when playing video.
I am running MAC OS 14.6. Running a MacBook Air M2. No issues here. I don't use Chrome, though.
Thought about that one all weekend. I remembered the computer for the GPS and Stereo are under the driver's seat. Wiring to and from is there, too. Yeah, the engine may run, and they say runs and drives, but they don't say how far.
Restoring that is way above my knowledge level. Although, it does look in good shape.
I helped a friend restore an early oughts Infiniti G with flood damage. Looked great. Cost more to fix than what it would have been worth with a clean title (which it did not have). I don't think he ever got it running 100% right and ended up parting it out for a pretty big loss.

I never understood hating a minivan functionally. So I assume it is all an ego thing. With an undertone of not wanting to admit you chose to have kids! Other than that it is a fantastic tool for a job. Same as having a big pickup if you haul or tow, or a wrangler if you drive off road.
If you need the room for people and stuff they drive nicely.

That’s an interesting take that I hadn’t really thought of before but which makes some sense to me. Your last sentence is what made it hit me. Those vehicles help the image of being a manly man even if you’re a wuss. The minivan must have the opposite effect for some and feels threatening to them.

———————————————— For years now I’ve seen almost as many women driving pickups as men. I’m sure sitting up high is what they like most, at least that’s what I’ve heard. Sadly some of those women aren’t what you’d call dainty and they probably wouldn’t want to be seen dead in a mini van anymore than some men. I wouldn’t want to mess with those but they’re out there.

Here’s my take on it … many don’t want the stigma of a minivan, but drive something like an Enclave (Highlander/Pilot etc) which for all intents and purposes is a minivan without sliding doors (and slightly less interior room).
My wife and I were 100% guilty of this. I used to call our Enclave(s) a van and my wife didn’t like it one bit!

When I'm not thinking, I call my wife's Forester her truck. She doesn't like that either.

I rented a Grand Caravan to move my son's stuff to college in SC. It worked fine, but I was immensely thankful that I was renting and not owning. I've never wanted a pickup either- aside from crazies like the Ram SRT-10 or similar. I do like the Wrangler, precisely because it has some foibles- and since I require a vehicle with true off-road capability. it might as well be entertaining. The thing is, I've never been able to tolerate dull cars. In my eyes, being boring is the absolute worst sin a car can commit. I'm reminded of the story Bob Lutz told:
" A guy marries his longtime girlfriend. Shortly after marriage, she finds him in the garage cleaning his beloved Jaguar E-type and says: 'Now that we're married, I think you should sell that thing and get something more sensible.' Long pause. Then he says: 'You know, for a minute there, you sounded just like my ex-wife!' She: 'I didn't know you were married before!' Says he, quietly 'I wasn't.

Dropped the Tacoma off for its 20K service with 21K miles on the odometer. While waiting for my wife to pick me up, I walked the lot. I saw a lot of the same cars & trucks I saw a few weeks ago when I took out Highlander in for service. I did get an up close look (in the dark) at a zero option Black/Black Land Cruiser 1958 edition. $58K isn’t chump change for sure. It really looks great!

I took a look at this lightly used M2 a few weeks ago. Contrary to popular opinion, I’m okay with the design and I like this color in particular.
What struck me was how overpriced it was at the time. Apparently I’m not the only one…it’s gone through a couple of price reductions since then to the tune of about $9,000.

I also hate the tacked-on Amazon tablet masquerading as an instrument panel and the fact that it only weighs 123 pounds less than my C43.
BMW missed the mark. The previous F87-gen M2 had a personality all its own while still feeling like a member of the M family. This new G87 M2 is just an M4 in a different wrapper. And if you didn't like the M4's nostrils, I doubt this cubism-meets-machine design will excite you. The M2 performs admirably, it's plenty capable, and I'm sure it will put down impressive lap times, but I'm old enough to remember when M cars did more than just generate great numbers. They felt the fastest without actually being the fastest. The previous M2 had that magic and will be missed. Also, ditch the massive touchscreen. I just got one of those personalized pre printed hand written solicitations from my Ford dealer. They say they have a customer specifically interested in my Mustang and will give me top dollar for it.
Now I wonder how this customer found out about my car?😂😂😂
Seriously though, I realize that this is a mass mailer but it’s refreshing to see dealers doing actual marketing again instead of waiting for customers to crawl in begging to pay MSRP.
