Went with my friend to the Headley-Whitney museum in Lexington to see the current exhibition (25 dog works by Jamie Wyeth and dog and cat works by other artists). They also had a portrait of EthanAlmighty, the namesake of Ethan's Law, an anti-animal cruelty law that was recently passed in our state, and Ethan himself was there (along with his owners) as an ambassador. A great experience, overall. We had lunch at Bella Notte, my favorite Italian restaurant from my law school days in Lexington, and that place is still great. No wait on a Sunday well after most churches had let out. Started the day with a full charge, arrived home with 14% remaining. There is a GM Energy fast charger at the Pilot Flying J about halfway between Louisville and Lexington, but I didn't need it.

There is a special place in hell for people that abuse animals and children.

I just got one of those personalized pre printed hand written solicitations from my Ford dealer. They say they have a customer specifically interested in my Mustang and will give me top dollar for it.

Now I wonder how this customer found out about my car?😂😂😂

Seriously though, I realize that this is a mass mailer but it’s refreshing to see dealers doing actual marketing again instead of waiting for customers to crawl in begging to pay MSRP.

How often do you drive your Mustang?
Not near enough but at least twice a week. I have to rotate through the other 3 vehicles too.

Speaking of which, I got the F-150 back. Bad starter $500. I told the guy we wacked on it but got nowhere. He said modern high torque starters can’t be jolted into function like that. Is that true?

I bought my usual 4 tickets for the BMW CCA raffle. Grand prize is a new X5M and the remaining cars are various 3ers and X3s. No matter what I win I’m taking the cash equivalent. If my wife wants to flip the X1 and find something more entertaining that’s fine. Otherwise I’ll bank the rest except for enough to trade the S3 on a European dual-sport.

So does anyone know what a 2 door 2012 VW Golf R 6spd (white) with 99k miles is worth? Asking for a stupid friend.

Narrator: it’s him. He’s the stupid friend.

PPI from an independent VW specialist? Stack of up to date maintenance records from an Independent VW specialist? Unmodified? Adult driven? Clean carfax? Original clutch? Dealer or Private Party? Will he respond to "Is it available?" Does he accept low ball offers? Does he kNoZ wUt HE gotZ?

You bought it already, didn't you?

Auction results are not terribly clear, but a couple in that range in average condition were just under $10k. So, if it checks out, I’d say $12k is all the money. $11k if private party.

We're not even in the cone of concern yet folks have been going nuts since Saturday. Our BJ's was mobbed and it only took us 20 minutes to finally get to the pump. Yet the stations we passed on the way to Publix had like 2 vehicles in each one. Petrol is plentiful and refueling trucks seem to be everywhere. Publix was pretty tame Saturday night but wife just got back and said there were some empty shelves. Milton is moving NE at 16 mph currently, a good thing for us but not so good for the Tampa area. Our kids in St. Cloud, outside Orlando, will get it worse then we do. Even our kid in St. Augustine will feel the effects.

Gotta a feeling that after this season, many will say they've had it and move either inland or out of Florida altogether...I know I'm getting to that point! But where to go is the problem. Think we'll leave the vehicles outside again just in case. Am off the next couple of days and go back Friday. Good luck to all us Floridians especially those in the path of Milton. May G-d keep us all safe and out of harms way!

Finally did the change at work on Monday. After falling out of the 15 packer about 6 weeks ago, I've been thinking about leaving that crew. Working out of a minivan last Friday & Saturday convinced me the time had come. So Monday, had a private sit down with the big boss. So instead of going down to two days a week as was my original plan, I'll now be working Tuesday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday...all out of a minivan. Turns out the weekend & Tuesday guy quit last week so a hole opened up in the schedule that needed to be filled. Instead of turning down my offer down to work weekends I asked about 6 months ago, he jumped at the idea. So now, I'll be giving up Monday's for Tuesday's, keep Friday and take on the weekends. We start at 9 on the weekend, end at 3 usually both days. So, I'll be keeping the same total weekly hours spread over another day. And having Mondays off is a bonus for me. Weekend hours sometimes are longer like on Saturday when I had to drive a handicap equipped vehicle up to Palm Beach airport for a customer. Worked till 4:30 or so but no big deal. Not having to get up at 6 am both days is the real win/win for me. I've been getting up about that time my whole career and it's wearing me down.

Will miss my old crew for sure, especially my lead driver who has become a real good friend over the years. He said he was disappointed but I've got to do what's good for me and no more climbing in & out of that monster vehicle is right for me now. And working with new folks is a good thing really as I was ready for a change there anyways. Sure, going down to two days a week sounded great, but this way, we're helping each other out & I'll look at the two day option down the road. Just not ready to stop working quite yet and I'll know when that time comes...I'll just know! I really do like the job, as do most of my co-workers, so it's really not like working honestly. Love driving and driving so many different vehicles is a great opportunity, and it makes me keeping the Golf just that much easier.

Question for the more mechanically inclined. The X1 needs a new passenger side motor mount. It is a labor intensive job, complicated by the fact that the A/C system may have to be drained and hoses removed to gain access to the mount. I’ve been quoted around 1k for the complete job (incl, AC drain and recharge) by an indy in the college down where Jr is. It’s less w/o the A/C issue if he can make the access work.

I just put 1k in for pads and rotors and he’s going to need tires when he’s home for Christmas.

Am I doing any harm or causing a safety issue if I just kick the motor mount down the road? He’s in college, car doesn’t get driven every day and we could tell him to nix driving on any road trips.

    Its a ‘17 with 74k miles.

Just tell him to take it easy. One busted mount puts more stress on the others. Granted, you’d be doing both when you do the job, but there are more than just the lower motor mounts involved, such as the transmission mount and some vehicles have one or more upper mounts, too. So the less flex (hard driving), the better.

    Are you keeping the Accord?

Yes....it's been a great car. Comfortable, handles/steers/brakes well, gets 42-44 MPG for the most part (got 48 MPG on one tank that was ALL city driving).

I will use it for road trips.

This seems to have aged poorly. ;)

Absolutely. And, as others noted, there are degrees of "bad." If it is actually broken, then that is a bigger challenge than just worn out (still physically connected, but not providing the same dampening as before). Also, it matters what side of the engine it is on. The engine rotates in one direction, so it wants to pull up on one side and push down on the other. If it is on the "pull" side, and actually broken, that can be a much bigger challenge than the "push" side.

I replaced the mounts on my 2013 Forester this past July, and it was a major PITA (even on that car!).

If you're willing I'd be interested to hear how things are going with your Arteon @sda. I like the unique high-end design of the Arteon, which seems more like an Audi that somehow got released to VW. I imagine the driving dynamics and interior design of the Arteon make each drive special. I was interested in the Arteon a few years ago because the design was so high-end, and yet discounts on new ones were quite large. I was esp. fascinated by that back side glass in the Arteon, the design of which seems different from any other car I've seen. It's like a concept car that was brought to life as originally designed, rather than compromised.

Agreed on that! I imagine it's a typically over-engineered VAG nightmare with time, but I sure do like them. I still pine over my Passat from time to time. I only had it five months, and basically only drove it from Ohio to here (so, maybe 5,000 miles total), but it sure made an impression.
