I still think the Mustang II was closer to the original mustang than the bloated 1973 version was.

Just looked online at my local VW store and they have a few Golf GTI 2.0T SE's for sale, a couple white pearl/black and a Moonstone Gray/black. I prefer the Moonstone Gray actually. Not a fan of the one piece tall front bucket seats but wouldn't be a deal killer by any means. Just wish they had the easy 2-knob infotainment systems without having to go through multiple windows to get what you want. Same goes with the HVAC system which again, seems to difficult to use. A positive is the 9 speaker Harman Kardon sound system which should sound close to the same Fender system I've got right now. They're pricey at $39,044.00 with a possible $2K cash back until the end of the month.

Looks enticing and with my 70th birthday about a week away. But, pricey however one looks at it and just need to decide if I want to spend about $32K plus my car to get it. Guess I have a lot of thinking to do. The size constraint isn't an issue since it's the same dimensions as what I've currently got now. Just something I'm going to have to think about these next few days.

If you can afford it, get it. You deserve it for a lifetime of clean living.

I would suggest an extended test drive. The GTI is much more firmly tuned on the suspension that may not be to everyone else’s liking.

Agreed. That plus the annoying touch screen controls are the two major things that would be different from Sandy's current VW.

Went to the "unveiling" of the new 2025 BMW X3 at my local dealer, last night. New generation.

It's kind of chunky. According to the presentation, it's just 1" longer and 1" wider than the previous model. Like almost every other SUV, they seem to be making it boxier.

    Some tidbits

Pano moonroof is tinted. No shade. Doesn't open.
Sport seats are now standard. Which is nice, but if you're short, they may bother you (re: my wife).
Both engines are now mild hybrids (like Audi). More HP than before, but I didn't get the numbers.
Both units on display had optional 20" tires. But, no longer runflats.

Very well equipped model (but with no leather) had MSRP just under $56K. For comparison, my wife's 2017 model, similarly equipped (leather, but no sport seats) had an MSRP of $54,400. That's not much of an increase over 8 years. Base models have a much bigger spread, mostly because standard content has increased.

I had the same invite from my dealer, actually surprised it came given how badly I skewered them on the last service survey I completed and the conversation the SM and I had. Guessing the invite came from corporate. I had scheduling conflicts so didn't get to attend, sounds like it was an unremarkable debut.

My son’s boss just picked up a 2024 X3 lease. 3/30 for $350 month. Not sure of terms though since there was a trade involved. If I could do a close to sign and drive for that I would sell both cars and get one and add a beater rust bucket dump runner truck to the fleet!

They lost me with non opening moonroof.

Every article I have read on the 2025 X3 is good for the motors and driving experience. They all say that the interior looks cheap with lots of hard plastic.

started laying the groundwork to snap my trap on the wife today. Pointed out some of the many prior generation Frontiers in our area (they are very popular) and mentioned how useful they would be for our weekly transfer station runs (Maverick was once again full of yard waste at the time). Then talked up how nice the pretty blue X3 was that she always wanted, so why not sell both of what we have for good prices, get an X3 to be the drive all the time car (and "her" car!), and a used truck to have around for dirty duty (or even a utility trailer instead).

Apparently, (how did I never know this?) she does not like buying and selling cars! And has the looney tunes idea that we should just keep what we have because there is nothing wrong with them. I should probably look into getting her some professional help.

question for you the flipper guy. normal garage doors are 7' tall, right? Because I had to walk up and open mine from outside yesterday and noticed it looked really tall (the windows were way above me). So I pulled out the tape and the opening is 8' tall. Wondering if they made it taller when I put in the 18' wide single instead of the normal 16'?

I did look and I think it is about 22' deep so without any shelves on that side I could fit a full size truck lengthwise (only dimension that could be an issue) since if I did ever get one, it would be on the short side of full size range. I actually would be unlikely to go beyond midsize if I did get bigger. Or a FS with a cab and a half and 6.5' bed maybe.

just looked them up. surprised that a regular cab 6.5' is only 209" be less than a foot longer than mine. and basically the same size as a Ranger. And even the extra (super) cab is 228", and the crew cab is 232". even the crew cab is 242" so barely 20' long. So if I back in until I hit the wall, the door will close!

You could always start pulling fuses and letting air out out her tires to show her there is “something wrong” with the cars.

Of course I assume you have no problem sleeping in the woods with the old tires if she finds out you’re gaslighting her.😱😱😱

BTW, I just drove a Frontier for a few hundred miles and the bed isn’t much bigger than your Maverick’s. They aren’t cheap either, this one is almost what I paid for my F-150 with 1/4 the mileage.

I just said I have plans. Not that they were always good plans.

mostly was trying to work out a way to get something spiffier or more fun, and anything coming in means something going out to make room!

in terms of truck needs, now that I regularly actually use it for truck stuff I have to worry about scratching it up and making it dirty. That suits an older work truck unit better to throw junk and branches in the back. So far I have managed to keep in looking nice.

a lot of the other guys I see at the transfer station have small utility trailers. one of those could come in handy.

Of course I assume you have no problem sleeping in the woods with the old tires if she finds out you’re gaslighting her.😱😱😱

I just hope that Mrs. Stick’s first name isn’t “Abbie”.

question for you the flipper guy. normal garage doors are 7' tall, right?

    You talkin to me?

I have what they call a double wide garage door. Mine is a 16 footer which is the nominal dimension. However, my width is actually 15 feet (side jam to side jam) and the height from the concrete floor to the header above the floor is 78 inches (6’ 6”) which is nominally called a 7 foot high door.

I don’t know what the actual height is for a nominal 8 foot high door but my guess would be it is around 7’ 6”. That additional one foot of height should accommodate most full size pickups that aren’t jacked up.

From what you say about where your windows are I think you have an 8 foot high door because I can easily see through my windows that are in the top panel without having to stretch my neck.
