I'm sure the Macan is great, but 0-60 in the 5.8 to 6-second range confirms my belief that my Maverick is a very affordable "sleeper" vehicle.
Yeah... the Macan doesn't feel any faster than my wife's X3, even though 13 hp more for the Macan. Peppy, but not amazing. Top speed of 144 is pretty impressive.

is there anything wrong with the X3, or is this just a "I feel like something new" situation? If so, is it worth $45K for that shiny (newer but not new) feeling?

7.5 yrs old.. 79K miles. It's been really good.
But, it's time for something new.. We could probably get another X3 service loaner for $47K-$50K.
Barring unforeseen issues, whatever we get will do her for another six years, at least. It isn't like we're trading off a 2-3 year old car with 30K miles.
Oh, I get it. I wouldn’t get my wife the quicker one, either.
But now you are contradicting yourself. How does the wife feel about the steering? I’m guessing she doesn’t notice such a thing. My wife, on the other hand, would care about the badge, sadly. Although she wouldn’t admit it.
One advantage to the Porsche is better value retention, though. No idea how it stacks up vs the higher purchase price, though.

The ZF conventional automatic in our 16 Q5 is smooth and responsive enough for our needs. In the congested traffic of stop and go it isn’t somewhat jerky as the DSG can be. The Aisin automatic in the Arteon performs similarly to that of the Q5 ZF even though they are distinctly different.

My wife has driven BMWs for the last 20+ years. (3-series and X3s). Steering that is heavy on-center, that takes a little effort, and tracks well are important to her. She just doesn't care much about acceleration, as long as it's decent. If it was my car, I'd probably want an S.
The Audi Q5s we've driven have over-boosted steering, and a lot of body roll in turns. The Macan has attributes closer to her present vehicle. (that's our experience).
She has always admired the look of the Macan. But, she wasn't sure until she drove it. Seating position, visibility, etc are important to her. After two test drives, she is sold. Her main concern is less rear seat room and cargo capacity. You know, for the three days per year that someone is in the back seat.
When you're 67 yrs old, and you've driven three straight cars of the same make/model (over the last 16 years), making a switch is hard.
Loaded. I cant get my head around paying almost $8k for a paint color and different wheels.
Chalk seems ok but I’d like to see it in daylight. But that interior is way too dark and somber.
Yeah.. tried to get her to go for Red. The gray is slightly better than black, but rare. At least the black leather is a little richer looking, and has the stitching. The other standard interior is Black/Beige. But, the beige is uninspiring. She said Gray was better, but if not, she'd pick black.
Looking at Porsche option prices will make you nauseous. On service loaners, we try to find the one she wants, and just look at what we're paying for it. One reason for going out of town, maybe: The local 2024 models had terrible looking 21" wheels, and they weren't CPO, so just 3.5 years of warranty.
This is the one we were looking at locally. $500 higher asking. Ugly 21" wheels (vs. 20") and $6000 less in options. Also, no CPO, so two years less warranty.

Harry Metcalfe of the Harry’s Garage YT channel just reviewed the latest Maserati coupe which he mostly liked (except for the screen controlling too many functions) but was astounded that the sticker of the press car had an upcharge for paint of £29,000!
I've already been contacted by the Morgan dealer in Chicago as well as the Morgan factory in the UK. Apparently most will be built to order, but the Chicago dealer will keep one as a demonstrator. Now to crunch some numbers...

I have never bought the same make/model twice. I have owned Mazdas and Hondas but not in a row and never the same model. It always seems my vehicles needs have changed and/or there is something new on the market I want to try. Then again, I don’t shop in the lofty vehicle realm many of you occupy — Porches, Bimmers and such! That might be a fun survey — how many of you have bought the same make/model repeatedly (excluding @breid here, who does that but rarely in sequence!)?
Back to back RDXs but 7 years apart. Complete redesign so not quite the same car. Don’t think I ever did it for my car. I’m usually all over the place.
I know I've mentioned this before, but almost had two of the same model in the garage at the same time.
First wife bought a '91 Mazda Protege LX in dark blue, with an automatic.
A few months later, it was my turn to shop, and I found a light blue LX with a stick. But, I was fixated on a coupe or 2-door sedan and ended up with my '91 Nissan Sentra SE.
I bought a 1969 Datsun SPL311 in 1977. In 1994 I bought a 1993 Pathfinder SE. From 1998 to 2001 my wife drove a 1998 318ti while I had my Club Sport parked next to it.

Some final details and of course some pics (or it didn’t happen).
The final lease agreement shows 8% off sticker and only $1,500ish in negative equity. It was a win for them since they had 3 payments left, were way over the mileage, and their ‘22 wasn’t in the best shape. They still managed to sneak in A $300 pre paid maintenance even though they said they didn’t want it. I’ve already put a call into the sales dude and am waiting to hear back.

We had 2 Pilots in a row (2011 & 2017), but they were completely different body styles.
My 2019 Tacoma & 2023 Tacoma are the same color, engine, transmission, and cab configuration. The '23 is a 5' bed while the '19 had a 6' bed.
My parents however find something they like and stick to it. This '24 RX350 is my Mom's 3rd in a row ('20 & '22). She had 2 Cayennes ('11 & '16) that were identical except for color. My Mom & Dad combined for 3 different X5s from 2 different eras ('04, '07, & '13). My Dad has owned a '10, '11, '15, & '23 Tahoe as well as an '18 Yukon that was exactly the same as the '15 Tahoe.

See they bought up in Mt. Kisco. We weren't to far from there growing up in Westchester. Nice part of New York, close to the city & New Jersey where my dad worked and had a factory. And close to Connecticut where we spent our summers. Hope to get back there one more time before I exit this earth though traveling is a bit rough for me right now.
Closed the front passenger door at work yesterday morning and the blue plastic covering on top of the mirror flew off. Tried to get it back on but no luck. After a few tries, seemed to get it lined up properly and after a few hard hits, the top and sides felt like they were getting a grip and adjusting the bottom, all the sides were back in their grooves. Didn't fall off on the way home and looks pretty good right now. Was just afraid I'd hit a bump and it would pop of while I was driving but so far...so good. Looks like I dodged another bullet here and that top part just came out of the grooves holding it in place. Electric turn signal in the mirror assembly works fine. Will probably fold that mirror in manually when I pull in/out of the garage for awhile. We did talk about taking out that closet we added years ago which would give us the extra width we need. Think when we do the pendants in the kitchen, we'll just hire someone who does electric and drywall to fix these couple of issues for us. Since we've decided to stay for awhile, might just be worth it.
