On the minivan front, I will chime in and state the obvious that we love our Odyssey. It's nice to have something that truly can be a staple in our fleet, with little worry of LT reliability issues. Those Home Depot runs are definitely one factor that keeps me from considering a 3-row SUV instead - it swallows 2x4s with ease, and with the second row removed, we've been able to put an entire kids bedroom set in there. To that end, the stowaway seats in the Chrysler product are indeed nice. Removing the Ody seats isn't hard - just heavy!
Michael - my wife has a thing for the X6 too. I could see a CPO one for her someday, but as you pointed out they sure are pricey! Whenever I see one that seems somewhat realistic price-wise, it's usually several model years old and miled up.
ok, so back to the T&C, if I could manage to locate a Touring-L with all the added goodies, its a $41k rig that Edmunds says has a TMV of $37,250. Knock off the $9500 that I THINK MIGHT stack, and we've got a cap cost of .... let's just call it $28k. That's a lot of vehicle for the money. Wonder what the lease numbers on that would look like. I was hoping to wait till the wife's 40th bday to surprise her with a new one, but this temptation might be too great.

Usually it's handy having a middle seat though - it makes good "shelf" to stash stuff you want within easy reach , and it would help block some flying projectiles in a crash. The problem with the Stow 'n Go is that you lose some height; I mean, you have foot well storage when the seats are up, but put them down and the floor to ceiling height is a bit less than it was in the Quest. Bikes still fit upright okay though.
Breld, that the new ride, or still thinking about it?
as to minivans, wife and I have discussed a bit recently that it might have been a good idea to hang onto the odyssey a bit longer. partly because we are looking at helping the son move (though that will require some sort of rental truck). But mostly having to take the daughter to college in August!
Though thinking back, to keep it either meant not getting anything new, and keeping her in the van (which would be pushing 100K by now). Unless we kept 3 cars all along, which really wasn't the plan.
a minivan or PU now that I have a spare car for minimal use though sounds good!
I was helping a customer load up some 4" cast iron pipe into their previous body style (2010 - 2011 ish) Odyssey Touring. The functionality & versatility of the minivan is amazing. We folded the 3rd row flat, removed the middle seat of the 2nd row & slid the pipe right through the middle. No problem. That pipe wouldn't fit in our Pilot. Plus the lower step in height would make it easier to load up the kids. They definitely have to climb up into the Pilot. My wife who is 5'4" tall says it is somewhat difficult to buckle the kids in as she has to stand on her tip toes & reach over. Plus access to the 3rd row is to climb over the 2nd row. I can see why everyone who has a minivan loves it.
That being said, I know that Siennas & Odysseys are great vehicles, but the Chrysler & Dodge minivans give you SO much more for A LOT less. It is amazing what you can get in a Grand Caravan for what an Odyssey LX stickers for.
Yep, you can certainly buy a Chrysler minivan for less money than an Odyssey but five years later it'll be worth a LOT less than the Honda!
My '09 Grand Caravan SXT was a little bit over $10,500 OTD. Don't know what MSRP was on it back in the day. Lots of bells and whistles on it, but missing some stuff, like Bluetooth and heated seats. Lots of miles too (125k). But it was the best option without having to drive back downstate or over to Green Bay.
My brother has had good luck with two Odysseys now (not counting getting rear-ended in Vermont a while back). But my wife usually rides shotgun and the Honda passenger area has always felt a bit cramped to her. After the magic seats in the original Odyssey wagon, I'm still surprised that Honda can't get them all to disappear. The last generation was certainly better looking than the current one, if you care about minivan looks.
I remember reading the reviews when the hide away 2nd row seats came out, and the tradeoff was that they were much skimpier and less comfortable. I can see the attraction, at least for some people, but in 7 years with the odyssey I can't think of a time where not having them really caused a problem. Meanwhile, the bigger, comfier captain's chairs were always appreciated.
@stickguy, I've heard that about the rear seat comfort several times now. Guess I should ride back there sometimes.
Nah.
Meanwhile, after zero interest in the van, I think I could sell it three times today. It's a bit sad living in such a depressed region. I'm asking $750 for the van and the buyer (supposedly) on his way here had to borrow $400 from his mom to swing the deal. Then a guy walked over and wanted it, but said it'd take him two or three days to float some loans to get the money. A couple talked to my wife about it this morning but they didn't call back.

You need to raise the price to 1700. The folks looking in that range probably have the cash. At your 750, your getting shoppers who can't buy.
And it is gone. A grandmother got it for her kid heading off for diesel mechanic school this fall. I gave him the factory manual so maybe he'll have some fun with it.
Interesting point about the price - when I sold the in-law's pickup a couple of years ago for $800, the buyer literally had to go saw down some trees to raise the cash.
What's funny is that I sold my canoe for $800 but a running vehicle is barely worth that.
So, we're a one car family again and if our luck holds, we'll soon be homeless too.
Wife tried the odyssey and sienna back the first time around and said they felt much cheaper than the T&C, so she still refuses to even consider them.
We talked about it today and we are definitely going to visit a dealer or two and see if we can make this happen. It will all depend on how/if those incentives stack.
I searched all the inventory in the state and found several exactly how I'd want them and even found 1 in her color...sadly, ALL of them are at the last dealer we want to deal with. There is just 1 with the right equipment that is at a different dealer I am not familiar with in Princeton, but it's silver (belch) and it, for some reason, is $500 more, although the exact same equipment. Window sticker claims $2200 for the 30th anniversary pack while all other sources say it's a $1700 add.

I have an Armada driving co-worker who excitedly told me about this BMW she likes, wanting to know more about it. I got a description and found some pics of possible models - it was an X6. She didn't like it when I told her the price (there was an M at the local dealer for over 100K), nor what I think of many "drivers" of said vehicle. She also likes the QX56/Q80, so maybe it makes sense.
An indecisive all-over-the-map friend of mine now has a thing for the Lincoln MKZ hybrid - that came out of left field.
Long time lurker (especially on CCBA), but never got around to setting up an account. I'm also an aspiring CCBA, as I'm always looking for the next car, whether or not I even need something at that point. Looking to trade in our 09 Focus for something a little safer, nicer, and something with AWD. Budget is around $30k. Big ticket items: AWD, xenons, heated seats, bluetooth, sunroof, aux port, decent gas mileage. Looking at:
Lexus IS250 - Like them, but I felt too cramped height-wise, and I'm only 6'-2"
BMW 3 series - I like the 2012+, but can't quite find them in my price range
Mercedes C-Class - Doesn't really excite me
2011+ Volvo S60 - Frontrunner. Looking to go CPO. Like the 2014+ update better, but should be responsible and stick to my budget.
Audi A4 - Doesn't really excite me either. Not to mention, worried about oil consumption issues on the 4 cylinder.
Am I missing anything? Anyone here have a 2011+ S60? Thoughts, opinions?
Let's see. you seem to be "premium" focused. If that is not essential, how about a Subaru? Legacy can give you everything (not positive on HIDs though).
I don't own an S60 (I have an S40), but have sat in one many times, and have driven a few, and really like it.
I agree that the IS250 is way too cramped.
If you otherwise like Ford, how about a Fusion AWD?

Well.. the Armada is an ugly pig, so at least the X6 is consistent with what she likes..
You are preaching to the choir. Our Pilot has always been worth as much as we owe & is now worth much more than our payoff. Yes the Chrysler vans might not have the resale of the Honda & Toyota, but that doesn't make them bad cars. A customer came in last week with an '04 T & C with over 222K on the clock. Original engine & trans. Full service records. The AC blew ice cold, the body had a few scratches in it, & the engine idled quietly.

Just go to the dealer you want to buy from and tell them you want them to do a dealer trade for the van you want. Heck, when I bought my GLI, the dealer had no GLIs on the lot. I test drove the GTI (with the same mechanicals), and had them get a GLI from a dealer in Ohio.
Breld, congrats on the BMW! What year and mileage, so I can update our list?
Wonder if I can get the wife to look at the ZDX? If you squint, they kinda/sorta look the same. And a used ZDX is about $10K cheaper than a used X6.
Although, the wife is not fond of used cars, so I'm thinking that when the time comes, we'll look at the X4.
Edit: Then, of course, I flip over to the BMW website to configure an X4. Holy cow - configured with most of the tech that the wife has in the CX-7, along with a few other extras - the price came to over $56K! And that's for the 28i version with 240HP. Add another gosh-knows-how-much to get the 35i with 300HP.

Yeah, that's what I told the wife. We just gotta make time. Looking like we may have to go separately. I go and confirm the incentives and then send her to drive it.

A poster over in Edmunds Answers is considering a ZDX (among other rides). I'm not familiar with them at all. Sounds like a good car for a mountain commute though.
Been busy all weekend at my son's baseball tournament (as well as a little time to go buy a car )
So here are some details:
I was all ready to buy the 2011 535xi sport package with 32k miles (fintail, this was the one that had HUD). But then another dealer got around to posting pictures of an almost identical one, but with only 22k miles and m-sport instead of the sport package (but unfortunately, didn't have HUD).
So I went Saturday evening to look at the car - it's at a one-price place, and it's listed at $1,500 higher than the deal I had for the other 535. Long story short, they offered $300 more for my Passat trade, so for $1,200, the m-sport and 10k less miles was too good to pass up. The miles were the biggest thing to me - since I drive so much, having a 3 year old car with only 22k miles will work out well for my usage.
Plus, with financing through BMW, I got a 1.9% rate and the first two payments paid for.
So, officially:
2011 535i xdrive
Silver over black
Premium, Cold Weather, M-sport, "Sport" automatic trannie (not sure what the upgrade is other than paddles).
lol, one potential canoe buyer wanted an end to end photo. Then he aligned the boat lengthwise to a grid and told me it was a bit off center. Twisted if you will. That could affect tracking in a lake boat; probably means zilch in the kind of stuff we paddle. Mostly he didn't want to mess with the wood gunnels though, but I learned something new.
The first potential Subaru buyer irritated me by coming up with all sorts of "problems" the Outback had, and after insulting the car, he low balled me. I enjoyed sending his wife the "it's sold" email but feel a bit sorry for her having to live with a jerk.
I was a bit surprised that the canoe buyer didn't want to paddle the boat first; I certainly offered that option to everyone.
ack! What happened?? Edmunds just changed their look and feel today on the incentives and all of a sudden, the T&C numbers changed. Now its showing only $5k incentive to lease through an alternative lender. That could kill it for us.

hmmm... anybody know where to get the REAL incentives info?? So the new Edmunds Incentives pop-up says $5k... but after I use the configurator, I can click the Incentives link in the TMV page and it takes me to the old list that still shows $6750. ugh.

That particular incentive seems to change depending on which model T&C you select. $5K for a Touring L, $6750 for a Touring, $7500 for the Limited (is this the base model?)
2001 Prelude Type SH, 2022 Highlander XLE AWD, 2025 Camry SE AWD
ah, I think you are right. But I'm seeing the opposite... $6750 for touring L and $5k for touring?? So it must have defaulted to the touring before. Limited is the top spec. So they are offering more the higher you go in the model range. Thanks for the help. Still hoping it stacks with other things like Conquest cash and minivan cash

I think my uncle is trying to force me into punching my CCB card this year, by putting another nail in my '85 Silverado's coffin. He used it today to go pick up a wood chipper, and started off the conversation with "Were you planning on getting that crack in your windshield replaced?"
I said "No, why? Did the cops pull you over?" And that's when he said no, but that it now has a broken back window to match!
I swear, I can't have nothing nice! Or even, semi-tolerable! Oh well, at least the shop that fixed the chipper and loaded it up for him is picking up the tab on the back window. So, another stay of execution, I guess...

There are 2 that are unclear:

$750 lease bonus cash = Bonus Cash is available towards leasing. This offer cannot be combined with the Returning Lessee program.

Is that the one with HUD, or was someone else looking at an F10 like that? Congrats!
To you too, Steve. I knew you'd end up with something like that/
Hey guys,
Long time lurker (especially on CCBA), but never got around to setting up an account.
Welcome!
You could probably find a gently used/demo Buick Regal AWD for that budget. Really nice car.
2017 Cadillac ATS Performance Premium 3.6
@rny421, second the welcome!
@fintail, thanks. You guys know me better than I know myself.
Let's see. you seem to be "premium" focused.

Re: X6.

Regarding Ody vs T&C resale...
new 2014 Ody Touring Elite street price is ~$42k.
new 2014 T&C Limited street price is ~$35k.
used 2012 of the same with similar miles = $30k vs $24k, respectively. Realistically, I'd call that close enough to just get what you prefer.

A poster over in Edmunds Answers is considering a ZDX (among other rides). I'm not familiar with them at all. Sounds like a good car for a mountain commute though.
Been busy all weekend at my son's baseball tournament (as well as a little time to go buy a car
)
Guess I can go change my signature!

And your fuel bills are going to go up a bit.

Congrats - breld! I have driven several similar 5s, when the lease on my 2011 335iS was approaching termination. Nice!
GTI running just fine @ 13,000 miles . . .
@stever "What's funny is that I sold my canoe for $800 but a running vehicle is barely worth that."
Yeah, but a canoe is a LOT easier to do a pre-purchase inspection on.
lol, one potential canoe buyer wanted an end to end photo.

Could be a page than not everyone is seeing yet - this is "my" link and it hasn't changed. Could be the new one for you still though.
I didn't look at the incentives the other day, but all I see today is $750 bonus cash for leasing a T&C.

Andre, no punches for selling. You wouldn't buy a 2nd PU to replace that one would you?
