My calculation is only .01 off of that quote (rounding error).

MF is costing you about $8-9/mo.

If you're comfortable with the selling price, all else looks good.

The reasoning for the higher MF, thus the added $8-$9 a month was that the 8.2% off MSRP was putting the car at or below invoice, and of course the dealership isn't going to sell a car without at least some profit, so it seems like an advantageous trade-off for me, because the dealer is only getting ~$290 total profit off the MF, while not profiting on the price of the car.

For example, according to my calculations, if I were to get the base MF (.00079) but only get the standard 6% off MSRP, I would actually be paying $24 a month more.

So I don't see how it would be possible to get a better deal than what I got.

    Hi Michaell,

What do you think of this?
    FWD Prestige,
    MSRP: $49,380
    Selling: $45,500

    Documentation Fee + $80.00
    Tire/Battery/MVWEA + $8.75
    Smog Abatement Fee + $20.00
    Tag/Registration Fees (estimate) + $367.00
    Electronic Filing + $29.00
    Flat Add/County Fee + $10.00

I live in LA and sales tax would be 8%

For 36/10k, is $673 per month (+ $2500 down payment) reasonable?

    Thanks

    Hi guys,

Before I head to the dealership this week I thought I'd ask for some advice. I'm in the final month of my lease with my 2013 A4 with one last payment to go. I'm looking to lease a 2017 A4 Premium Plus Quattro with the Tech Package 36 months 10k miles a year (NY). My first question is any tips on the lease end process with Audi? What's the most cost effective way to do this? I've heard about people turning in their leases 1-2 months early without having to roll their payments over, is this true? I'm hoping this will be a simple and seamless transaction.

I also jotted some figures down to propose to the dealer assuming I pay taxes and fees upfront (NY) let me know what you guys think. Thanks in advance!

Thanks to @sixsence for this format and congrats on your new A4! B)

    Lease period: 36 months
    Miles per year: 10,000

    MSRP: $46,950 + $950 Delivery fee = $47,900
    (6% off MSRP) = $45,026

    - Takata Air Bag Recall Loyalty Bonus = $2000
(My 2013 A4 came up on the list)

    - Existing Audi Owner Loyalty Bonus = $750

    - Audi Cash Bonus = $250

    Final negotiated price = $42,026

    Residual (59%): $42,026* 0.59 = $24,795

Base Payment (Final negotiated price - Residual): $42,026- $24,795= $17,231

Interest payment based on MF = (Final negotiated price + Residual) * MF * Lease period) =
    $66,821 * 0.00079 = $52.79 per month * 36 months = $1900.39

    Total loan amount = $19,131.39

    Monthly payment = $19,131.39 / 36 months = $531.43

.00034 and 54%. If the selling price is the cap cost, I get a payment of $592/mo, tax included

Find out what the $2500 covers. It's also likely they are marking up the MF on you.

    Thanks @Michaell !
Any thoughts on the lease end process? I have a very noticeable dent on the left fender and a few dings and dents, should I fix this myself before the inspection or have the dealership take care of it?

Have you had a lease end inspection yet? I'd suggest you get a quote from your local body shop, and compare it to what you'd get charged by Audi if you didn't get the work done.

I am looking at a 2017 A4 Premium Package + heated front seats. So, essentially a base model. 36-mo lease and 12k miles/year. In the SF Bay Area the best price I've gotten (including taxes) is:

    - $5,000 cash
    - $398/month

Good deal or should I negotiate more?

    Thank you!

What is the MSRP and adjusted cap cost? What is the breakdown of the $5000 due at signing?
    *****

Ok -- MSRP is $40,085 and taxes and fees are $3,800.

    Thanks!

$3800 seems high for taxes and fees - CA taxes the monthly payment on a lease.

Closed a deal this weekend and thanks to the moderators for info provided.

    Car: '17 A4 Premium FWD
    MSRP: 40,635
    Cap Cost: 35,758 (12% discount)

    36mo term, 12k/yr mileage
    MF: 0.00034
    Residual: 56%

    Fees
    Acquisition: 795
    DMV: 333
    Doc: 80
    Tire Fee: 8.75
    Electronic Reg Charge: 29
Sales Tax: 70 (I couldn't figure out exactly what this was on)

    Leasing Rebate: 1,000

I applied the Rebate to the Fees, so drive off was $727 (1st month + leftover fees), monthly is 381+tax.

Felt good about it, and the car is definitely worth it!

How did the dealership not lose money on the car with 12% off MSRP, base MF, and $1,000 rebate? Does not compute.

EDIT: The residual does seem low for a Premium FWD...

56% is the correct residual for 36/12 on FWD Premium

And, I highly doubt the dealer would sign off on the deal unless they were making money somewhere. Could be this was the unit that qualified the dealer for a volume bonus.

Please check the dealers math, if possible. Premium Quattro MSRP 43,889, sale price 41,500. $3,200 due up front for taxes, tag, processing fees, and acquisition (Virginia). Quoted a monthly price of $541 for a 36/10. I am assuming the sale price is the cap cost.

    Thanks!

    .00079 and 59% for 36/10.

With your MSRP and sale price, I get $487/mo.

About $2K delta in cap cost.

It depends on what the sales tax and other fees were. The sales tax depends on where you are in Virginia. For example, I just went through this process at a dealership in Richmond, Virginia. There is a state tax of 4.15% and local tax of 0.2% there. However, the state tax applied to the negotiated price of the car + the processing fee, and the local tax applied to just the negotiated price of the car.

So sales tax was like ((Negotiated Car Price + Processing Fee) * 0.0415) + (Negotiated Car Price * 0.002). Then if you roll that in to the lease instead of paying it up front, it is subject to the money factor.

That's often the case ... either a big discount from sticker OR the base MF. Some dealers make it hard to get both. But, I've seen it done.

If you're happy with the deal, don't worry about the numbers - go enjoy your new Audi!

I am both a first time Audi buyer and a first time leasee and have to say this site has a wealth of information. I was hoping someone could help me figure out if the offer I've received is solid:

2017 Audi A4 Quattro Premium with Convenience Package
    Total Cap Cost = $39,225 (38,350 + 795 acquisition fee + 80 Doc fee)

    Customer Cash $2,998
    Min Drive Off $1,028 (-)
    Total Cap Reduction $1,970
    Net Cap Cost = $37,255

    Residual 59% of $37,255 = $25,256

    MF = 0.00129 (seems high?)
    Monthly Rent $80.60
    Monthly Depreciation $334.17
    Monthly Tax $37.33 (CA)

    Total Monthly Payment $452.10
    Amount Due at Signing $2545.90 ($1,970 + $359 Lic Fees + $38 Gov Fee + $177.24 Cap Red Tax + $2.61 Fees Tax + First Payment $452.1)

If there is room to negotiate is it in the asking price, the amount at signing, or the MF?

Thanks a ton for a newbee leasee

Hmm, In the detailed quote he sent me it has the residual listed as 59% and the $ amount as $25,225.45 and the total depreciation as $12,030.25 ($334.17 x 36)

The MSRP I am told is $42,755.

Does that mean that the residual is actually $42,755 - $12,030.25 = $30,725?

Does that mean that the residual is actually $42,755 - $12,030.25 = $30,725?

No... the residual is 59% of $42,755, which is $25,225.45
Depreciation is (CAP cost minus Residual) or ($37255 - $25225)

The calculations are correct, as given, but...
The money factor is marked up from the base .00079. That is adding $31/mo.+tax to the payment.

I would negotiate the money factor.
You want the same terms and same amount upfront, but $30/mo. less.

That's often the case ... either a big discount from sticker OR the base MF. Some dealers make it hard to get both. But, I've seen it done.

If you're happy with the deal, don't worry about the numbers - go enjoy your new Audi!

In the end the dealer has to profit somehow. So with a base MF, they would have to profit either by marked up fees, or the price of the car must be above invoice. If the price of the car is above invoice, there can't be but so much more than 6% off MSRP, at least for the A4.

In my case I was able to get 8.2% off MSRP which is significantly more than the 4-6% I see people suggest for Audi, and this put the car at or below invoice, so they made up for that by marking up the MF .00011, which only cost me ~$290 total, and ended up being a much better deal than getting base MF and the normal 6% off MSRP.

It's good that you ran the numbers and figured out which combination of factors resulted in the best deal for you.

Hi Michael, I was wondering if you could tell me if this is a good lease deal or not. First time leasing and dealing with Audi..

I'm looking at a 2017 A4 Premium Plus FWD in SoCal with MSRP $48030. Net selling price is $44030 with out the door price at $43695.66 ($5811 down - trade in + $1000 down). For 42mos/15k they are asking for $475.89/mos. Wanted to know what the MF is and was told the residual is 50%. Is this a good deal or am I better off financing? Thanks!

    42/15 on FWD Prem + = .00054 and 50%

Using your MSRP and out the door price, I get $505/mo before tax.

    A couple of notes:

    1. don't use trade equity as down payment - that money would be lost if the car is stolen or totaled.
    2. what is the adjusted cap cost the dealer is using?

    36 months may be a better term - .00034 and 54%

Thanks for responding! I ended up taking the deal today with 36m/15k since they did give me MF of 0.00034 and 55% with audi care. The adjusted cap cost ended up being $39833.39 and my monthly is $430 including tax. The only thing I probably regret is using my trade as down payment because what you said is true, but what is done is done. Hopefully I don't total this beautiful car and that no one steals it. Thanks for your input! This thread was super helpful in helping me understand how to read the numbers.

What is included in the lease as far as bumper to bumper warranty and regular service at the dealership, and what does Audi Care add to it?

AudiCare is pre-paid maintenance; does not affect the warranty.

Hi Michaell, a question: I'm in Los Angeles and using Truecar to get a rough idea on a negotiating lease starting number for a factory order fairly loaded FWD Moonlight Blue Metallic Prestige with Driver Assistance, Cold Weather, Warm Weather, and Sport packages along with Natural Gray Oak Inlays and Rear-Passenger Outboard Thorax Side Airbags. With 0 down, 36 month/10k miles, not including tax, title and license, Truecar is quoting $47,467 purchase price with a lease deal of $499. I realize there may be incentives, etc, at play here, but still, that seems pretty amazing when looking at the numbers you're listing elsewhere, do you think something is amiss? Thanks so much!

Okay, let me ask you then, a Los Angeles dealer is offering a $47,467 price. FWD Prestige. 36 month/10k. Zero dollars down, top tier credit. Can you give me the MF and RV and what lease price calculates to per month? :)

Nope, I just use what's given to me. That's how we find discrepancies with the numbers given and the payment the dealer quotes.

Based on what I have read so far, did the RV for Prestige quattro go up 2%? It appears that the MF for 36/15K is still 0.00079 but the RV went up to 54% from 52%?
If not, at what are the September RV and MF for a Prestige quattro @ 36/15K? Thanks.

Just remember that $555 is just the base payment. It assumes you paid all fees, taxes, and first month's payment up front. If you put $0 down and roll everything into the lease, that number doesn't include sales tax (depends on state), acquisition fee ($795), tags, title, dealer processing fee, first month's payment at signing, etc.

For instance, where I am in Virginia with a specific dealer, the fees and taxes for your car are:

    Processing fee: $599
    Acquisition fee: $795
    Registration/tags: $60.75
Sales tax (all up front in Virginia): $2,089.67

If you rolled all those fees and taxes into the lease and only paid first month's payment up front, the actual monthly payment would be $655. Even excluding taxes it's $596. So you need to ask the dealer what the money factor and residual % are, and if you want to compare the monthly payment to what you got here, you need to tell the dealer to give you the monthly payment assuming you paid all taxes and fees + first month's payment up front. If you use my example, you would have to pay $4100 up front to get that $555 monthly payment
