What will the monthly payment be and also what is the up front charge of fees, tax, etc? Could you calculate monthly and initial fees payment only?

$0 down means nothing against the selling price, but I have to pay the 8% NY taxes, plus DMV, license and acquisition right? Is it better to pay it up front or roll it into lease?

Verify they are using the base money factor.. Ask for a breakdown of the $2835 (to insure no garbage fees).
Ask for a bigger discount.

$567/mo, if all other charges are paid upfront.
Why would they break out the destination charge?

Roll the taxes and acquisition fee into the lease. Pay the DMV upfront, to make sure it doesn't get taxed.

Hello Michael. I was just quoted the following on a 2017 A4 Premium Plus Quattro with Tech package, Walnut, Metallic Paint, MSRP $48,325. While I did not get the MF or residual value, I was quoted $548.79/Month with $1862 due upon delivery. That is a total out of pocket of $21,070 for the 36 month 15,000 mi/year lease. I am located in NJ. Is this a good deal? Thank you in advance!

I want to do $0 OOP, but my local dealer says that is illegal...which is the first I've heard of, and I've leased dozens of cars over the years, all with $0 OOP. Anyhow, what should I be looking at for a payment? They have quoted $499 for 42 months including tax with $1,700 OOP. Seems like it should be a little less than that. Thanks in advance.

I'd ask for a breakdown of the $1700. Some of that could be rolled into the lease, but the MF will go up as a result (acquisition fee, for example).

But, first payment and DMV costs are due at delivery in CA, to the best of my knowledge.

Lastly, I'd confirm that selling price can be used for a lease - often, you'll get interweb quotes for a car but they include incentives that are for purchase only.

Tax in IL is calculated against the sum of the payments, not the entire purchase price. Ask for the adjusted cap cost, and confirm how they got to that number from the selling price.

I am looking at a 2017 A4 Premium Package + heated front seats. So, essentially a base model. 36-mo lease and 12k miles/year. In the SF Bay Area the best price I've gotten (including taxes) is:

- $5,000 cash
- $398/month

Good deal or should I negotiate more?

Ah...you've already revealed that I need to get more info. I'm not sure what the MSRP is or the adjusted cap cost. I simply told them that I would put down $5k at signing; not sure where that is going. Will get more info and ask again.

Get your quotes with $1000 due at signing.
That will simplify comparisons, and clarify the true monthly cost of the vehicle.

Disposition fee - $350

MSDs allowed - max 9 with each reducing MF .00005. Audi enforces a minimum MF of .00005, so only 5 MSDs allowed on FWD.

I was given .00134 as the MF for a 2017 A4 Premium Plus Quattro w/ Technology package by a local dealership. The MF set by AFS is .00079.

If I'm understanding leases correctly, the dealership sells the car to AFS for MSRP, and then AFS leases me the car and gets the interest based on the MF. So the dealership makes money off the sale of the car, not the lease.

If this is true, why do dealerships mark up the MF? How do they make money on the increased MF?

Oh, wait. Not in this case. Dealer is allowed to mark up the MF for extra profit, so they do. Double dipping, if you will. They get to keep the difference in the rent charge collected on the lease.

It's the same as if they mark up the interest rate on a purchase ... they get the loan from the bank at 1.9%, but charge you 2.9% on the loan paperwork.

You'll note that you can't call up AFS and get the base money factor. It's confidential between them and the dealership. If a dealer marks up the money factor, AFS pays them a percentage of the upcharge, upfront.

So, if the bump adds $50/mo. to your lease, then AFS will pay the dealer 70%-80% of the extra $1800, upfront.

Ahhh, gotcha. Thank you again for explaining all of this. So much for transparency and having interest rates actually reflect the level of risk the lender is taking.

It sucks, I know... Just takes being vigilant to get the best deal. In any transaction, a car dealer will try to hide the true cost of the vehicle.
