Thanks for the quick reply! This is for stick shift, I don' think there is a CVT option on the STI.
I was under the assumption that in NY State you had to pay the taxes up front with a lease?
I do get your point about the taxes and possibly losing that money if there is a total loss, only thing is I want the payments to be less than $450/mo so I may have to just decide to roll the dice and pay taxes up front anyway. If I roll taxes and fees into the payment there's another $60+ per month added..
My main goal here is just to make sure I don't get taken advantage of or walk into the dealership with a sign across my forehead that reads "sucker"!

    Thanks again!

Whoops, I didn't see the "STI" part in your original post.

    65% and .00145 for 36/10.

If you have a payment budget in mind, perhaps starting with a less expensive car might also be an option....

Ummm, why can't you have a fairly expensive car on a budget?  Not that I should have to explain, but I just can't justify spending more than $450 per month on a car payment, that doesn't mean I can't afford or shouldn't get a car that I want.

On the 2017 STI LIMITED with WING, does the RV & MF change much when you are looking at a 42/10 lease, or is it similar to the 36/10 numbers?

    Thank you..

59% and .00125 for 42/10. Probably end up with a relatively similar payment.

My point was that Subarus don't lease all that well - and, the WRX STi, even less so.

Hi. Can you please explain what you mean by Subaru's don't lease well?? Do you mean that there aren't much lease incentives for it?? Also, can you please give a few examples of cars that lease well?? Thanks.

    1. You don't see a lot of discounting
    2. While the residuals are high, so are the MF

However, if you want a small, non-premium AWD vehicle, Subaru has the market cornered (well, other than Mitsubishi).

Would these numbers be valid for the various 2017 trims, regardless of transmission type? I assume add 3% for 10k miles instead of 15k?

    2017 WRX Base (6MT) .00145 MF and 65% residual
    2017 WRX Premium (6MT) .00145 MF and 62% residual
    2017 WRX Limited (6MT) .00130 MF and 60% residual

Looking for a friend, it would need to be a CVT.

     Base  wrx 15/36
    Base sti 15/36
    California

Also, do you pay residual for add one like sti exhaust, kicker audio package, short throw shifter? Or do you pay full price for them and never own it?

    .00145 MF and 65% residual
    .00160 MF and 66% residual

If the options are port installed, and show on the official window sticker, they will be residualized, as they are part of the MSRP.
Dealer installed will likely be full price.

    Hi,

I am interested in a Subaru WRX Limited CVT with EyeSight, MSRP $37,562, in Southern California.

Leasing for 36 months, 12k miles a year.

What would the residual and the Money Factor be for this vehicle, and typically how much percent discount is there on the MSRP of the vehicle?

Is that something that I can negotiate, or is this what its going for now?

The bank allows dealers to mark up the rate by as much as .00050 (surprise!).
You want to negotiate that back to the base rate.

Coming off this, I seem to have worked a deal on the base STI i found with an MSRP of 36,284.

    Selling price 33,686

    Monthly $395.48
Due at signing $750 including first month
Also need to pay for tags when they come in, so I'd say $1000 due at signing.
    36/10k 25,036 buy out
Gross Cap Cost was 35,592.23 (cap taxes plus acq fee plus selling price plus gov fee (7.50) plus doc fee (395))

Acq fee rolled in, only the disposition fee of 295 due if i return the lease.

How does this sound? Seems pretty aggressive. NJ assume 7% sales tax.

The confusing parts for me are:

Capitalized Taxes is 908.74, where did they get this number from? Can't seem to find out how to get "Cap Taxes".

Cash Cap Reduction is $750, i know my due is 750 so is that what this means? There is also a section for amount paid by customer.

Net Cap Cost comes out to 35,237.71 which I also dont understand, unless this is the Gross Cap Cost minus by 750 due after deducting first month? Its abotu 354.52 less than my gross cap cost.

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi there!

    2017

    WRX Base

    STI Base

    36/10
    36/12
    42/10

Can you let me know the MF and RV? 07109

First time leasing. I got the base WRX down to a selling price of 26k, leasing 36 mo/10k at $289 a month with $1000 total due at signing which includes first month payment and tags/reg. Trying to play with numbers here.

    36/12
    WRX Base - 67% and .00145
    STi Base - 68% and .00160
    Add 1% for 10K

    42/12
    WRX Base - 60% and .00120
    STi Base - 60% and .00110
Coming off this, I seem to have worked a deal on the base STI i found with an MSRP of 36,284.

    Selling price 33,686

    Monthly $395.48
Due at signing $750 including first month
Also need to pay for tags when they come in, so I'd say $1000 due at signing.
    36/10k 25,036 buy out
Gross Cap Cost was 35,592.23 (cap taxes plus acq fee plus selling price plus gov fee (7.50) plus doc fee (395))

Acq fee rolled in, only the disposition fee of 295 due if i return the lease.

How does this sound? Seems pretty aggressive. NJ assume 7% sales tax.

Taxes are paid upfront in NJ. If you are rolling that amount into the payment, then the amount is "capitalized", ergo capitalized taxes.
Net CAP is the Gross CAP minus the amount you paid upfront (less the first payment).

Looks like a pretty good deal on an STi.

Thanks for the info! I'm just having a bit of trouble getting the math correct assuming all numbers are accurate.

If taxes in NJ are 7%, what do i calculate 7% of?

    Gross Cap Cost of 35,592.23 - Residual Value of 25,036 = 10556.23

    10,556.23 * 0.07 = $738.94

How do they get $908.74? That seems like 8.6% tax.

Also, I'm trying to factor in the $395.48. With an MF of 0.00160:

(Gross Cap Cost of 35,592.23 + Residual Value of 25,036)*0.0016 = $97.01 in interest per month

(Gross Cap Cost of 35,592.23 - Residual Value of 25,036) / 36 = $293.23 per month for depreciation with fees

That equals $390.24 instead of $395.48.

Actually, scrap the mess I made above there.

Assuming selling of 33686, MF of 0.00160, RV of 69%:

    1. I put $750 down which covers my first month payment of 395.48, meaning I am putting $354.42 down.
    2. Gross Cap Cost is $35,592.23, so subtract my $354.42 down I get $35,237.71 which is my Net Cap Cost.
    3. I calculate (Net Cap Cost - Residual Value of $25,036)/36 = $283.38 a month for depreciation.
    4. I calculate (Net Cap Cost + Residual Value)*0.00160 = $96.44 in interest per month
    5. Interest plus Depreciation per month comes out to $379.82. There is $15.66 missing per month to get to the $395.48 they quoted me.

So what am I missing? Is there a dollar amount on top of the MF that dealers charge to make money? Is $15.66 per month ($563.76 over 36 month term) fair?

Also, still unsure on how to calculate capitalized taxes (908.74).

Thanks again, learned so much on here!

If you capitalize the taxes, you have to add that back in to the gross cap cost, which subjects it to interest.

And, the balance of the $750 may be used to cover fees and such, not as down payment.

Dealers can mark up the MF by as much as .00050 for more profit.
