I like old Mopars, but I'm with you Shifty on this one. Of course, I'm not a fan generally of hidden headlights anyway. As Sly & the Family Stone said "Different strokes for different folks".
Are you someone who's trying to find a basic car without all of the complicated new technology? Or maybe you know (or are!) someone who just bought a car that's loaded with apps and technology and you have a funny story about figuring out how to use it? We have a reporter who would love to talk to you. Please send a note with details and your contact information to PR@Edmunds.com by Monday, March 13, 2017.
Look at this (LIKE A BOSS) What a car (LIKE A BOSS) Up to my eyeballs at work (LIKE A BOSS) Hidden headlights (LIKE A BOSS) I'm not feelin' it (LIKE A BOSS)
I think it's presidential (LIKE A BOSS)
A time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing.
Nice paint, but wrong seats, wrong spoiler, exhaust doesn't look factory. Probably a decent big block driver but won't fool anyone
If I ever bought a tribute or clone or whatever they want to call it, I'd remove any badges or stickers that only belong on a real one. I don't care about fooling anyone. I just want the performance. And that GS looks damned nice.

Caught a break in the ceaseless rain this morning, and took the old dear out for a drive. It's been 3-4 weeks since the car has been on the road - started right up and ran fine. No videos as I forgot the camera mount, just a gratuitous pic :
If you mean impressed by how overdone, confusing, and gaudy one vehicle can be, I agree. ;b
What makes me scratch my head is that the exterior trim is from a Bonneville. Not only is that the top trim level (on an ambulance??) there was no 4-door Bonneville that year. Excuse me, but I'm confused.

Actually, that overall style is kind of like a lot of ambulances of that era looked. Remember, it is 1958. The year of often overwrought styling, the jet age and the atomic age sometimes referred to as "Populuxe" with kitchens starting to take on pastel colors and over decorated appliances...well, you get the picture. For me, I like a 58 Pontiac either as a Bonneville or a station wagon which isn't surprising because I like the 58 Chevy Impala and station wagon.
Well, it only has 3 stars on the rear quarter cove so that signifies a Chieftain. But yes, it does have the lower front fender strakes and the Bonneville-style applique at the rear door cutout. Maybe that was done by the body builder originally? No idea. The question I had was about the seat upholstery cloth, which looks newish and unlike what I see in the brochure, yet they say it is unrestored.
People have subjective definitions of "unrestored", "original" etc. I have seen "original" cars with new everything.
I bet the trim could be added by the builder, I know it worked that way for MB conversions anyway - if you wanted 300SE trim on your 220S conversion, just check the box.
I think you posted this one the other day, but I like it. I also love the plum crazy purple color. Only thing I would want on this one is a 4 speed and bucket seats, assuming it has PS and disk brakes up front.
and first nice day this week when I am looking to avoid working, I might need to pop over there to browse. Right across the street from the bakery that has great fresh bread and rolls. Sounds like a fine excuse to be in the area.
Some of the best bread around... when I was little my Grandmom would take me to the original location up the street from us and I would get the rolls hot off of the conveyor.
I looked at some Lincoln at that lot years ago. Was a definite 10 footer, it seems they buy and fix up the cars. Many that were displayed were clearly works in progress.
I think I went to the store down the pike once, but that is not very convenient. The lindenwald location still has same day fresh, so good enough for us.
re: the term "chaotic": It's a word I use to describe styling that, to my eye, is not uniform or logical throughout the car. Lines that go nowhere, or the front and rear of the car not agreeing on anything. The car doesn't speak any "language"--more like babble, if that makes any sense.
re: Pontiac ambulance--there is a very active "commercial vehicle" hobby, and sometimes there are separate classes at car shows for this type of car. It's a sliver of a niche market, and a very hard sell. These vehicles are often very large, hence difficult to garage, and one might describe them as "in your face" rather than beautiful.
On the other hand, they do represent a kind of cultural history. Most commercial vehicles are discarded, so they tend to be rare and rarely seen by the public.
I have seen these collected by "car wranglers", who rent the vehicles out to movies and TV interests.
Don't like the color on it, otherwise I'd go for the Hawk.
If the listing is correct, it's an export model. The ones sold in the US and Canada had the 289 ci engine. I also thought the Stude automatic was 3-speed by that time, but I could be wrong on that.

I understand the Flightomatic was actually a 3-speed, but started out in second gear when "D" was selected. You needed to shift into "L" to get 1st.
Assuming that is true, I wonder if they misidentified the engine size as well.
Nothing worse than a Mopar "muscle" car with a 318 under the hood. That started life as grandma's grocery-getter most likely.
My first car was a 73 Charger. With 140k and a 318 2 barrel, the car had some balls, at least in my high school mind. I think that a 318 can be built on par with a 350 Chevy or 302 Ford. Nice driver, not muscle car. It does seem however that the halo effect on the hemi and 440 cars has really trickled down and inflated the price on 318 cars.
That charger, if the body was solid (I hate rust) and it was cheap, would be a nice base for a road runner clone or tribute. Some sort of resto mod, since it is worth diddly stock.

Curious what shifty thinks of that recent group and what more fair values might be. Prices on the Stude and Tbird make me think they may be dogs.
