I wonder who's brother in law has the tree procuring contract.

I like palm trees, especially in old neighborhoods in CA or FL where they are really tall. None like that here, not sure if the climate will allow it.

I like the trees, but not so much the aesthetic of locals attracted to them. Kind of the G-Wagen of trees.

I have a very tall one on my property. They make a mess is all I can say and the recycling people won't take the fronds. You have to cut them up yourself and put them in landfill. Apparently they don't make good compost.

Fin, a palm tree fits right in with those big leaf maples you have - they both seem to have a root structure that gives in easily in a wind storm.

2 MB converts for $1,500? If I had parking space I might get them just to serve as a conversation piece. I wonder how much you could get total if you stripped them both down and parted them out?

I was going to say, a pair of 107 parts cars for $1500 may not be the worst deal in the world. Oops ad is gone already.

You'd make some money but you'd have two turkey carcasses in your driveway. I'm sure your neighbors or HOA would love, love LOVE this!

I'm SURE it's just a 10 minute job. The owner just didn't have the time and decided to take a $3,000 hit on the car.

Seriously though I think the module can be had online for around $600 new, and less rebuilt or used. Install doesn't seem too bad. Of course, all this presumes that IS the problem.

And of course, in cases like this, I always think "if you know what it needs and what it costs, why wouldn't you pay someone to fix it and double your investment?" I think we all know the answer.

Hard to see from the angle of that pic but I think there are 2 openings in the air filter housing. Like this:

I was thinking maybe a typo, and it is a $999 parts car? But odds are slim the error would repeat twice.

so, just need a frame, body, drivetrain, interior, and some miscellaneous parts. Assembly and paint. So for what, $50k, you can have a $12K car that a normal size adult male can't fit int?

Spent the day detailing the fintail (normal people would probably say it wasn't needed), as the MBCA gathering is in a couple weeks.

Here's the dear sitting at the shop, they kept it covered and pretty clean:

And all shined up, cleaned inside. The car has a weird quirk when sitting in the sun on a very hot day with the windows up - something outgasses, and the windows get foggy. It seems to do it more now than in the past, not sure what's behind that. Nice to have my glass clean again. I scrubbed the tires for the first time in a long while, too:

Covered car at right is the 64 Pontiac convertible that apparently never moves, covered car at right is a 55 Chevy that seldom moves.

Fin, where and when is this MBCA gathering?

Sneak the fronds out a little at a time with your garbage.

I grew up in palm tree ville and I like them too. I like the ones that have smooth trunks and grow straight up. They hire tree trimmers that climb them like a monkey and quickly get the job done. I don't care so much for the ones that spread out at the tops. If rat bands aren't installed on the trunks you will get a tree full of rats!

As a teenager we once shot a firework in the sky only to have it fall back, unbeknown to us into the top of a huge
palm tree. Soon we smelled something burning and the gals that were with us started screaming as TONS of rats boiled from the tree onto the ground where we had our blankets set out! It was unreal! We grabbed what we could and got the hell out of the park. We circled around from a distance later and the fire dept had things under control. There were cops everywhere so we silently drove away! Lessons learned!

We have come to grips that the 450 SLC isn't for us. It's actually too nice and when I fear taking it out it isn't right. It has become a garage ornament and other cars are suffering. If you know of anyone who wants one, let me know. Nothing wrong with it. Just doesn't fit in with our plans. I hate to advertise it since cars like this attract some people I just don't want. It really needs to go to the right person!

I'd put it in the MBCA "The Star" magazine" , and maybe try something like BaT or Hemmings. Craigslist would be a crapshoot, and I can imagine you'd get some irritating responses and tire kickers.

I hope you don't lose your shirt on it - SLCs are nice cars, especially in a disco-chic kind of way, but they have yet to obtain very high values. Your car being a late example isn't bad - the first ones and the last ones are the most desirable. One old car is more than enough for me right now, no extra garage space.

Saw a 450SLC on the road today wearing a dangling dealer plate - someone was taking it for a test drive. Brown over tan inside, top down. Was surprised that it looked small to me, never thought that way about these before.

Oh I know that color and I'm not a fan. They sold a lot though.

I don't think it was an SLC. I believe the C stands for coupe which ours is. It has a small backseat fit for someone three feet high.

The coupes are pretty big not to mention heavy!

Bring-a-Trailer (www.bringatrailer.com). It's an online auction site but somewhat unique in that you can "talk" to the bidders as they are bidding (not in real time, but like here in the Forums). This allows you to answer questions they might have, and generally tends to encourage higher bids I think. Check it out. I think it's only $99 bucks, and you can put a reserve on the car if you wish.

Check out some past 450SLC sales and see how you might measure up:

SLCs were even more expensive than SLs, I am pretty sure. MSRP in 1973 was around 20K, doubling by the end of the decade.
