2017 Subaru Outback Lease Deals and Prices

I'm pretty confident I could get a sale price of approximately $31,000 + taxes/acquisition/etc. on a model with MSRP of $35,260. Money factor is .0007 and residual is 62%, which seemed pleasantly high based on fact that model year is almost over. There's also $500 lease cash offered by Subaru for this model.

I've read reports that often times leasing at the end of the model year can be counterproductive because the residual value is at its lowest (although sale price might be lower due to incoming 2018s).

My general question is, once the 2018 Outbacks are released in August and arrive at dealers (likely), is there any reason to expect that I'd face a much higher MF? Is there any way to estimate how much higher the residual % (than 62% for the current 2017) will be for the 2018 model early in its life cycle? I'd like to wait until the 2018 model to pull the trigger to get the Apple Car Play and other updates, but I'm concerned I'll play much closer to MSRP and won't have as good a lease deal.

The current lease program and discounts look pretty good. It's impossible to know what might happen with the 2018 models, but lease payments will probably be higher.

You could always page back to the start of this discussion, and see what the program was for the 2017 when it came out. (though, that's no guarantee regarding the 2018)

Hello - at a first time lessee I really appreciate the service this group provides in helping to make an informed decision. I went ahead with a lease deal (36/12k) yesterday for a 2017 Subaru Outback 2.5i Limited with Eyesight/Navigation and Popular Package5 in suburban Cook County IL, but would appreciate a 2nd look to see if there are any areas the dealer may have worked the numbers (excuse me if my terminology is still off - I'm still learning here):

MSRP: $35,967
Invoice: $33,338
Sale Price: $30,812

Document Fee: $172.15
Acquisition Fee: $595
Registration/Title: $221.00 (paid upfront at signing along with first month's payment)
County Tax: $15.00 (paid upfront at signing with first month's payment)
Sales Usage Tax (8.25%): $977.73
Gross Cap Cost: $32.556.88

$0 down and $0 trade-in. Since I'd negotiated the sale price down quite a bit below invoice, I couldn't get them to also include the $500 Subaru lease cash for the month unfortunately, so adjusted cap cost was also $32,556.88.

Residual was 62% and MF .0007 and my total monthly payment was $323.33. This came to about $4 more than I'd initially calculated heading into the dealership. Payment as % of MSRP was 0.90% which seems very good based on the ranges I read so I decided to roll with it and use as a learning experience.

So I guess my main question is whether in Illinois the sales usage tax should have been included as part of the Gross Cap Cost? Any other issues the experts can identify with the numbers I have?

I'd appreciate any tips so that I can make notes for next time. Thanks!

If you don't pay the sales tax upfront, it has to be included in the CAP cost. That's the only way to get it into the payment. But, they calculate the tax before it's added, then recalculate it again. That way, you aren't paying tax on the tax.

Has MF changed that much in 2 weeks or are they just trying to find some extra $? I have not let them run my credit but told them to quote it for 'A' credit. The quote shows JP Morgan as the financial institution. Is that typical for Subaru leases?

We haven't heard that, but if the dealer won't lease to you, it doesn't matter too much.

Some states have weird lease laws. I think it has something to do with taxes and state fees but I'm not 100% sure.

Again, reiterating the others, thank you for what you do. Is there anywhere to look to see if leasing across state lines is allowed other than talking to dealer? In NV, but the color we want of the 3.6R touring isn't avail but there is one in prescott, az. Also wanted to use sales price against the dealer here in Vegas price.

I'm not aware of any incentive where the acquisition fee is waived.
