I'm finding some good returns on high mileage units. (some are really high mileage).

$13,700 return, with $9995 asking.

Pretty sure I could get that home for $10,500 after tax/fees. That's a $3200 return on a much smaller upfront.
You aren't going to chance driving that around much, though, with those miles.

It actually wasn't doing all that bad, but then hit a huge drop that I believe is attributed to the release of the Pacifica.

I did buy a bumper-to-bumper lifetime warranty for it, so I really don't mind holding onto it. It is a great vehicle.

I have a customer who owns a 2009 Jetta TDI Cup Edition. He's read the settlement, filed a claim, & is extremely skeptical about the whole buyback & restitution. He thinks it's "too good to be true." He thinks the government is going to take the majority of the settlement money & throw the owners a few thousand each & then offer to fix the cars for free. He doesn't think VW will buyback the cars.

That being said, I'm still hunting

So, a dealer wants to sell me a car, and I should be reported for that?

I don't have any qualms. I specifically mentioned the settlement to the dealer I am purchasing from - if they do not want to act on it, that is on them.

Me either.. It's not up to me, to let a car dealer know their own business. I wouldn't lie to them, or anyone, and tell them they aren't eligible, or the buyback won't happen. I told the dealer I was concerned about the title history, etc, because I wanted to make sure I was eligible, if VW had to repair or buyback the vehicle.

How much I might make, or not make isn't their business, any more than what their profit/loss on the vehicle is my business.

No, not this time! I actually snagged a direct flight between Anchorage and Chicago! So, a quick commuter flight into Anchorage (no layover on this one), then a five-hour flight to Chicago, a few hours there, and then another hour or so into Ft. Wayne.

Well, if the FTC is that set on making sure owners receive what has been negotiated, then I'm definitely making some plea regarding the 100% restitution for those who purchased after June 28th. It's the FTC order itself that is very specific on those purchase dates, with the only carve out being those who purchased between September 18th and June 28th. Everyone else should be getting 100% restitution, the way I read it.

I have no problem with them encouraging private owners to hold on to their cars - I would tell a private owner to do the same. But to make it sound like someone who is buying from a dealer is perpetrating some kind of a fraud is ridiculous.

There are a number of reasons a dealer would want to move these cars. First and foremost, 90 days from now (minimum) is a long time to hold a car for a dealer. I probably would not want to hold on to it that long, either. Some of these units have been sitting on dealer lots for 90+ days already.

Well, the A3 is home. I've nicknamed him Puffer, for obvious reasons. Averaged 41 MPG on the drive home from the dealer. Damn impressive.

Nice car. That looks like my great-grandmother's neighborhood, off of 80th near Green Lake. Even in 1999 when she decided to move to an assisted living place (at the age of 99, we should all be so lucky), her house brought a pretty penny, and I suspect is worth three times as much now.

Seattle neighborhoods can be distinctive once you learn them - the housing style, parking strip, street texture, and incline made it seem familiar. They bought that house, a neat 1920s English style bungalow, for around 9K back in 1950. Probably more diesel passenger cars per capita in Seattle than many areas.

Well your guess was northeast. I'm southwest of 80th in the Greenlake area. All very similar homes except where they tear down one log and build 4 smaller in its place (which is what mine is).

Today I traded my 2012 Acura MDX with 117k miles for a 2013 VW Passat SE TDI with sunroof and 19.7 K miles for $1995 difference. Looks to have a $23500 buyout! Hopefully, I did well. Passat was a manufacturer buyback for blown turbo. They replaced the long block, turbo and catalytic converter at just over 7k miles. Branded title, but I called the VW buyback hotline and branded (non salvage) titles are fine for TDI buyback.

He didn't budge on his $18999 asking for the Passat but strangely gave me 17k for the MDX. I figure that I really got 15k for the MDX and paid 16999 for the Passat. The difference is the difference as Terry used to say...

No comps with those miles but my best guess is $14k since examples with 55k-60k are in the mid $11s.

I'm starting to wonder if the buyback is more than the calculations. The latest link says value as of sept 18, 2015 and a minimum addition of $2550 (plus mileage adjustments I assume). Am I reading it wrong kyfdx?
