My uncle had an ‘87. Pretty nice car for the time period. It was the first FWD Maxima. I think ‘85 was the first year, but not sure they had a wagon, that year. He had it until 1995.
Someone I work with was driving an 85 or 86 Maxima until around 2010, when they finally moved on to a used Altima. The Maxima had something over 250K on it, and looked it.
My godson has one and I would if I could still drive a stick. I wonder why they didn't sell more of 'em. I see ten or 15 Miatas for every S2000, was it that expensive?
Yeah, expensive and certainly not for the lazy driver---on the first version, all the power was WAY up on the rev range. Americans really aren't used to shifting at 8500--9000 rpm unless they are motorcycle riders who are not on Harleys.
It's getting hard to find one that hasn't been all boy-racer-ed up. "They" say that the first version is more fun but the second version is more reliable.
No takers on my poster... it's a very odd one of a car I wasn't aware of. Hint: This make was manufactured in several places besides the USA including Argentina and ....?
US cars had positive brand equity in Europe into the 50s, as they were seen as more durable than local products. But then they got too big.
It'd be funny to do an auto conversion to a S2000 just to irk the cult, but it might be hard making a unit not upshift until 9K rpm - torque won't be an issue anyway.
Now there's a car. Model is indeterminate, as many fintails appear identical. From the details I see, it is definitely a W111, and either: 220S 1963-65, 220SE 1963-65, 230S 1966-68. I'll wager it is one of the 220 models. It is wearing "Gardmeister" accessory bumper guards, also seen on my car, and it appears someone installed shoulder belts (the mounting points are already there).
Nash coupe. I dunno, maybe a 53 or 54? Color seems to fit the mid 50's. Don't recall ever seeing a tire kit on a similar vintage Nash. I think the HT coupe was somewhat uncommon.
I think the car is for the couple in front. The young man just arrived to pick up his date and the parents in the background are awed by the vehicle and the young lady is dashing to examine this fun machine more closely.
(How's that for a story line?)
As for the car, I go to an orphans car show and many AMC, Nash, Rambler show up each year. I don't think I've seen one of these. I'll have to check the cowlender to be sure when that show is this year.
Some of the Nash brochures for that period are....amusing. In one, the splash headline is "Smallest Turning Radius in America!" (or something like that...maybe "of any American car!")
Now THAT'S tooting a horn that just about nobody in 1955 wanted to hear.

IIRC there was no first Generation ragtop.

This is what I found on Wiki for Bedford. How did this end up 4-eyed looking like the two examples above?

The 4-speed automatic did have an annoying tendency to downshift on freeways, at the slightest incline, if you were doing over 75 mph.
The next generation Maxima was the best (4DSC), but alas, no wagon.
