Way to really zero in on that one, stick. ;)

It's a '66 Mercury Cyclone with an unfortunate paint job and an aftermarket hood tach that should have been left in the box it came in.

Honestly I don't recall if the hood mount tach was OEM for those. Pontiac was big on 'em but I'/m sure others did it sometimes,

I was going to post this pic at first to show the tach integrated with the hood scoop but it's not a clear shot of the small tach face.

Looks like a Willys Aero to me. That U-Haul trailer is very cool, have never seen one like that.

53 Olds across street maybe? When I was a kid we had a newspaper delivery guy who drove an Aero like that, but I hadn't seen that U-Hail design before.

An Imperial colored like a bear - haven't seen many brown cars with black roofs, although I do like the cars looks. I'm thinking maybe around 1970 or 71. Not sure how much beyond that they made big Chrysler Imperials other than the brief Sinatra coupes of the 80's. maybe into the mid 70's?
  • ab348ab348 Member Posts: 20,292
That's a '70 Imperial. Interesting thing about those: they all came with a vinyl top, and had a smaller "privacy" rear window than the Chrysler body they were based upon. Chrysler installed a fiberglass "plug" in the Chrysler body's rear window opening that was trimmed out on the inside to match the interior color, and installed the smaller rear glass into it. Once the vinyl roof was installed over it all you couldn't tell.

I don't think it's correct to say "1970 Imperial". By then Imperials were a subset of the Chrysler brand IIRC.

Its full name would be 1970 Chrysler Imperial LeBaron. Evidently corporate wanted a name that was big enough to match the apparent size of the car. ;)

The blue Pontiac might be a '67? Also, the white Cadillac.

The red GM might be newer than that.

No, that's incorrect. It probably should have given the similarities in terms of body design, but it did not become "Chrysler Imperial" until the 1975 models. You are correct in noting that this is the LeBaron top-level Imperial, as the Crown was the entry-level and did not get the shrunken rear window. Indeed, it was not too different from a Chrysler New Yorker in terms of interior trim, although the radio dial still had unique "Imperial" lettering.

Amazing how much the blue 50s Buick stands out in that pic. The White Caddy is also a standout.

What exactly is the blue Buick....I’m thinking its a 54 Special

I see a 65/66 Mustang, and way over in the corner appears to be Country Squire Wagon

i'm not sure what's unusual about those. It is odd to look at a late 60s urban scene with only a single import car(a VW). Note also there is only one vehicle that is truck-based (those were seldom seen in the "urbs" except when used by tradesmen. It's a Chevy/GMC Suburban in the last row

That's a picture of only about 30 cars including just 1 import. Nothing odd about that in 1969.

How many AMC/Ramblers in that pic? VW was the leading import brand in the 60's and AMC was at their peak production but neither one is a big part of that picture at that time. This was the scene before the embargo days to come.

But only 1 Mustang. Now that's what's wrong with this pic! :)

It is a 1965 Plymouth Barracuda /373. I'm not familiar with a Barracuda Formula. Those "fishbowl"/Gen. 1 'cudas sold pretty well but I have no idea why anyone who wasn't a total MoPar fanboy would choose one over a Mustang.

IIRC the Barracuda was introduced a week or two before the Mustang and that rear glass got quite the reaction. The Mustang obviously sold like gangbusters right from the start but the Barracuda was unique enough that it had some fans at least for the first year.

Kind of ironic that the original Barracuda got some knocks as too Valiant, when the Mustang was a Falcon underneath.
  • thebeanthebean Member Posts: 1,267
Actually I was incomplete in my guess. A Barracuda Formula S was a package in ‘65, which included a V8, either 273 or 373, as I recall.

Swedish plates, perhaps. Although these look very much like a US Omnirizon, apparently they are quite different.

Yup, it's a 1979 Talbot Horizon and it's quite different from the US versions. Differences are detailed in a Hemming's article

    https://hemmings.com/blog/2019/07/15/only-skin-deep-the-european-and-american-versions-of-the-omnirizon-have-little-in-common-but-looks/

There were at one time two different companies that used the Talbot name, one British (Tall-bot)
and one French (Tal-bow?). The details are found on Wikipediahttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talbot
