Bottom right - 1965 Pontiac LeMans.

I think the cars stacked above it are Tempests

    Yes, Tempests.
On the other rail car, top right, a '65 Catalina followed by a '65 Catalina wagon.

And, for all of us train fans, the L&N railroad, which existed for 132 years!
I consider Palmer, Massachusetts to be the best place in New England to watch trains. Unfortunately, when auto carrying trains go flying through there, the rail cars carrying the autos are enclosed and one cannot see the autos.

Look at the white coupe just left of the L&N sign. You can make out a badge on the lower flank just behind the front wheel. Looks like a GTO badge.

Hey Wrench, I'm curious. What does L&N stand for?

Your right on both counts, this has a 326 CID V-8. I can't remember if the LeMans was a separate model in '63 or were they still Tempest LeMans.

Triumph Spitfire maybe. Don't know the date though, maybe late 60's - early 70's.

Looks like an early Spitfire. I don't remember that grill, though.

The grille I think was the standardone from 1962-69 or so. MY for the car was 1966.

Nope. Unfortunate 1955 front end redesign by Studebaker. That would be a '55 Conestoga.

Conestoga was the Studebaker station wagon. The Packardbaker went by Clipper and Hawk I believe.

I think you're right. I found an old ad from 1982 displaying the Plymouth TC3 Miser which looks a lot like the red Mystery Car. Anybody remember the guy in this paper chase?

6 passengers in that Reliant, have a nice road trip.

Chrysler sure got mileage out of the Omnirizon platform too, the 4 door soldiering on until MY 1990 I believe, the fastback to MY 1987.

The parents of some friends of mine had the wagon version pictured. Mom drove that; dad had a 914-6. The boys shared a Dodge D-50 compact pickup, into which they had bolted honest-to-God Recaro seats.

We took the wagon to Riverside Int'l Raceway to watch the IMSA races. I found an old photo album that has a couple dozen pictures from the event.

The star of that race was the Lowenbrau Porsche 962.

It's a 1982 Plymouth TC3 which was actually uglier than it's Horizon bedfellows as well as being just as gutless. I drove a buddy's new Horizon for a bit, gutless as it was it had enough torque-steer to nearly rip my arms off turning left. :@

I see another Beetle at the end of the row on left, near a woman walking. Also possibly a white one at right, kind of hidden behind what looks like maybe a 63 Fairlane - might also be a Volvo 444/544.

I will also pick off the Travelall in the center row left, along with what appears to be a 60 Ford 4 door HT ("Town Victoria") beside it.

Good eye on the Volvo 444/544, it's too big for a VW. The wagons nearest camera are Plymouth Valiant on left next to a 1960 Chevrolet. The Valiant points to an Olds F85 ca. 1963.

Is that wagon a Valiant, or perhaps a Dodge Lancer. I may well be wrong, but I seem to recall the Lancer had rounded taillights while the Valiant's were more oval?

I looked at some pics of Valiant, Dart and Lancer wagons and found one to match the rear of the one in photo, it's a 1963 Dart>

I think they went from Lancer to Dart for the model name in '63. Most Valiant wagons did have slanted oval t/ls but some years had round ones. There is a Dart convert next to the Falcon four dr. I'm guessing the newest cars are the '63s

    2001 BMW 330ci/E46, 2008 BMW 335i conv/E93

  • berriberri Member Posts: 10,165
Oh yeah, totally forgot about the name change to Dart with the newly styled 63's. Actually, for me the Dodge Lancer moniker evokes more high line mid-late 50's big Dodges than the short lived 61/62 Valiant companion. I think Dart was used on some of the early 60's Dodges, but I believe they were more of a value line by then.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
Honestly, it was confusing to see a name used for full-sized cars in the early 60s
applied to a relatively compact line a year after. That's not good brand management but the compact Darts sold pretty well.

My wife had a mid-60s Dart convertible and she named it "Prince" knowing that it's Plymouth siblings were named "Valiant".

  • berriberri Member Posts: 10,165
Yep, Valiants and Darts were pretty common in the mid-late 60's with a good reputation for holding up.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,430
I see a few cars in that pic that might be newer than 63 - maybe most noticeable a 65-66 Chevy sedan on dog dish caps.
