MBs of that era could have a very heavy gas pedal, almost like it made you want to work hard to make the car work hard. The fintail isn't so bad (probably softer with time), but I remember my W126 felt kind of heavy there too.

I think the red roadster is a Singer.

Unusual two tone treatment on that 61 Buick (I think LeSabre). Also liked the 57 or 58 DeSoto.

Yup, a 1955 Singer SM. In 1956 Singer became part of the Rootes Group which eventually included Sunbeam, Hillman, Talbot and Humber as well as Singer.

Apparently a relatively rare factory option.

I remember the throttle on my folks' '72 220D being really stiff. No cruise, either. My dad allowed me to drive it part of the way on I-5 in central CA. My ankle hurt after 90 minutes.

I heard that the first 'cruise control' was a brick on the accelerator of a VW bus when on the freeway. The thing was good for about 65 mph flat out, so it worked. Sounds like that would have worked on a 220D as well. It sounds like it would have to be a heavy brick, though.

Would have been easy, just keep it floored, you'd probably only average the speed limit back in the bleak 55 days ;)

While it was slow to accelerate, once you got it up to speed, it was a steady as a rock.

Yeah, the days of the NMSL were bleak. I drove from CA to MI and back in 1986. The stretch from the eastern burbs of Los Angeles to about Missouri was interminable. Fortunately, I was driving an '85 Accord and it did have cruise.

The cars outside are easy, those on the showroom quite are easy but the inside cars are harder. I know two but I'm stuck on the red/white one in the middle. Anyone??

Possibly Triumph TR10 wagon or platform sibling?

Others appear to be a Borgward Isabella and MB Ponton.

I'll throw my hat in with you on the TR10, Fin. The Borgward and the MB (surprise) you nailed cold.

Doh, I'd completely forgotten about the Triumph TR-10 Ten which was so rare it isn't even listed in Wikipedia, The shape betrays it's origins as The Standard Ten, a pretty popular car in postwar Britain.

For the record the sportsters out front are a Porsche 356B and an MG-A FHC (fixed-head-coupe). I'd guess photo was taken ca. 1957.

Yes - That red and white little estate car was what we knew as a Standard Ten Companion, although sold with yourselves as a Triumph - no idea what it was known as locally although a TR10 would imply a more powerful machine I would have thought.

They also had a Standard van based on the same machine but higher.

I like it too but the Z8 was a bit of an oddball. It took styling cues from the beautiful BMW 507, a pure sports car and reiterated them on a luxury grand tourer. It shouldn't have worked but it did.

Yup, the wheels are alloy ARE TorQ Thrusts, regular wheels were slotted stamped steel. "The Machine" was a hotter version of the AMC Rebel.

Yup, it's the 1962 Mustang 1 concept car, with a V4 motor amidships.

Did you know that the sports car nuts of the 1960s were keenly disappointed in the production Mustang and many dismissed it as rebodied Falcon?

We were disappointed because whenthe concept car came out there wasn't a single mid-engined car made for street use and the production 'Stang had nothing in common with the Concept 1 (Pony emblem and rear "air scoop" notwithstanding.

Iacocca's genius was figuring out that a conventional car could be made much more cheaply
and attract a broader audience. IIRC the 1965 Mustang was the most successful model entry in history, a record that has now out lived Lee Iaccocca himself.

I doubt it will ever be broken

    Well, it was....

If you pull the steering wheel center off an early model (64.5) it still says Falcon Sprint under it.

Technically there were no 1964+1/2 Mustangs, cars made during calendar 1964 were without exception sold and titled as 1965 Mustangs.

It's true that the first Gen Mustangs were mechanical twins of the Falcons. Engines and running gear were the same. By now everyone knows that but a Mustang will sell for many times more than an equivalent Falcon. It just goes to show what you can do with good styling
    and clever marketing.
