That Ford on the left is effectively a Popular although I think the chrome on the side of the bonnet says Anglia, which was the de-luxe version of that until 1953
@fintail Yes the van is an Austin A40 based on the A40 Devon - the grey car in the foreground is actually a Devon saloon
There is one other van in shot which has an American connection.
That tall van directly above the Jeep is a British built Dodge
They were known here as the Dodge Kew because the factory was in Kew, West London prewar and that one would have been about 1938
The Dodge connection carried on into the sixties with various Rootes Group vans being badged as Dodge or Commercial, depending on the dealer franchise, and also there was another light truck maker called Karrier which tended to concentrate on Municipal vehicles like bin wagons or Street cleaners etc.
We had Winfield as a brand at Woolworths, and I think they had some large stores called Winco in the sixties, but we don't get any Woolworths now as here they all went in the financial crash of 2009
I was surprised back in about 2015 to see a Woolworth store in Germany, it made me feel nostalgic.
Their other brand for goods was Winfield here.
And that is why the US Ambassadors office residence in London is named Winfield House - it was given to the US Government byBarbara Hutton, the Woolworth heiress, I think.
It's the second largest house in London (after Buckingham Palace)
Four Oldsmobiles in the picture. A 62 in front of the Mustang, a 65 to the right next to another Mustang, a 63 white sedan to the right of the copper color 63 F-85.
2021 VW Arteon SEL 4-motion, 2018 VW Passat SE w/tech, 2016 Audi Q5 Premium Plus w/tech
The Kew Dodge has a USDM style grille shape. Just to the left of it, a just-postwar Vauxhall, I think.
In my area there's a grocery store chain named Winco, it might be regional. Discount model, "employee owned", cash or debit only etc. I think the name might just be a coincidence to the old store name.

There are theories about what leaded gas fumes did to a generation or two.
61 Galaxie nearest the camera, likely a 4 door post. Middle lane 4 cars up is a 60 Ford, appears to maybe be a Fairlane.
I notice the effective absence of any cars that appear to be 10+ years old.
Plus, breathing my stepfather's cigars from age 7-17...
Heck, both my parents smoked until I was in junior high. That change appeared quickly.
My folks smoked through most of my childhood. Can't remember when mom stopped, but dad went cold turkey after he retired and got a cough he couldn't shake. Replaced the hand motions by buying sen-sen by the case.
From behind no other car is as recognizable as the '59 Chevy like the one in front of the Falcon. IMHO it's no accident that the 1960 Ford wore bat-wing rear fenders.
My mom caught pneumonia when I was in 8th or 9th grade - she quit cold turkey. My dad smoked for several years later though, I remember the haze on car windows from it bugged me, so I would clean them for him, which I am sure he didn't mind.
I remember my grandparents quitting cold turkey when I was maybe in grade school, too.

I remember when dad quit. 1955 or so. He had been smoking real tobacco and rolling his own which is what many smokers in that area at that time did. I believe it was Prince Albert in the can...
He had a cancer on his lip and they removed a 3/4" or so strip of lip and took a wedge shape of the cheek below the lip. I never had the urge to smoke after watching him recover from the surgery and going cold turkey to quit smoking. The disfigurement slowly went away over many years.
I think that if the Belt Parkway picture was indeed taken in 1964 it must be late in the year. The rearmost vehicle in the left lane looks like a gen two Corvair, which debuted with the 1965 model year.

Yes the car at left near Dodge is a 46/9 L-type Vauxhall Wyvern (it's sister, the Velox, would have had paint on the wheels but the Wyvern got the body colour.) The other car, facing us in front of the Austin van is a Vauxhall as well - its a 10HP and they made those from 1938 to the 48 introduction of that Wyvern( excluding the war itself, of course).
I never took up smoking because when my dad got seriously ill (it wasn't cancer, but Motor Neurone) he had to give up although he only smoked a couple a day 'cos his lungs were weakening,
My mum gave up in support and they had a miserable time doing so.

Actually, the LeCar was a great car. I drove two college trips in it, the aforementioned Lauderdale spring break with four of us in the car (CT to FLA). And, with three and full ski equipment, from CT to Jackson Hole, WY and back. It did break down on the way home, but at a nice motel in Cleveland next to a mechanic. New distributor coil for $35 the next day and we were on our way. Think we got ~40mpg, too.

The near ‘65 Mustang may be pretty base, no backup light.

58 Ford Wagon. The taillights on the 60 Ford look strange. They appear to not be solid but three lights! Looks like red clear red. 58/59 Thunderbird.

I'm glad you commented on the 60 Ford lights. I wondered about that. Not an Edsel because the Edsel had strange vertical light strips in 60.

I'd say that's it. The spacing on the low line's two taillights fits with the picture. That along
with the plain fascia between the taillights.
