Isn't that from "Dragnet" starring Tom Hanks and Dan Akroyd?

Qvale Mangusta. Joint venture between DeTomaso and Qvale, powered by a Ford V8 iirc.

    Very limited number produced.

Correct.... a very ugly custom-bodied Mustang.... One of those projects that makes you wonder why they bothered.

limited by poor sales is the truth of it. And now, plummeting depreciation of course.

    G-spot.

    Infiniti G20, that is.

Not a bad car, but 140hp wasn't enough in a class full of V6s and given the weight of this car vs. the Sentra SE-R (where that engine was plenty).

My sister and BIL owned a '93 or '94 G20. They bought a previous service loaner and had pretty good luck with it. IIRC, it was the first car I saw with a standard CD player in it.

Nice car - dark green with beige leather, and they drove it for a number of years until child #1 came along.

oh lord, another "ego-trip" with the birth mother's name on it. It seems these days that putting your name on a car is a sure sign of future disaster....I guess Shelby was the last guy to get away with it and make money...I'll let someone else take a shot...I recognized this baby from the shark gills all over it.

Ford Popular (or was it Poplar? I think the brits just call them a "Pop")
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,673
That's right, it's a 1955 Ford Popular. A look at that car tells you how slowly the British car industry emerged from WW II.

It's funny, as Euro Fords of late have been superior to their domestic cousins. How times change.

Anyone know what kind of car this is? I think the photo is circa 1920. --Derrick

That looks like Canada's version of a 1955 Ford - the Meteor. I'm not sure what model it is.

My son showed be this one. Supposedly a guy buys a farm in Portugal and opens the doors to the barn and finds thislink title

It looks vaguely familiar but I can't quite place it. I'm pretty sure that's a Hyundai emblem on the back,a five door variant of the Elantra or Accent perhaps?

I recognize about five of these cars recently found in an old barn in Portugal, how 'bout you?

Andy, I clicked on that link too and was amazed at the amount of cars in that barn! How can someone "forget" about all of these cars! There must be, what, 40-50 cars in there???

I can't read the language on that site so would like to know if that situation happened here in our country, what would happen with ownership? And, what in the world is this guy going to do with all of these cars if he can keep them?

    It's a good story though.

LC2 Accent 5-door hatch it is. Hyundai sold it in Canada but never let it south of the border.

the general rule in America is that "somebody ALWAYS owns a car"...be it abandoned on the highway, in a barn, etc....someone is legal owner at all times.

So if some guy buys the property, he doesn't necessarily own the cars if he has no title to them and someone else still does and hasn't signed it over. He could possibly lien them, etc. but he can't "claim" them IMO.

So I dunno how Portugal works but in the USA I'd guess the person's heirs own the cars, not the property owner...but it would be an interesting legal battle and I'd LOVE the appraisal job!

2007 Sentra, probably some sporty model like an SE-R? Ironically, while it may be considered a decline, and I'll confess I find it to be pretty ugly, it's probably the first Sentra ever built that I actually found useful! Previous models were just too cramped and uncomfortable for my tastes.

I think the Sentra I liked the best, style-wise, was that vaguely BMW-ish looking model from around 1991-95 (might be off by a year on either end). This current model looks like it was influenced by the Saturn Ion!
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,528
In the background I see a late MB Adenauer with its windows down. In the primary row I see a 46-48 Ford coupe (or is it a Mercury?), the crumpled newer car reminds me of something like a Peugeot 205, the 2 cars closer are Alfas. Behind one looks like a beetle, beside that another Alfa.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,528
I love that menagerie, just as it is. There are even a few fintails living in there.

The large unidentified American car appears to be a ca. 1937 Packard...there is also a ca. 1939 Plymouth (but looks like a Chrysler body as it is big...were there prewar export Mopars with different noses?) identified as a chevy, and I think the ca. 1930 American roadster style car is also a Chrysler.

I'll call dibs on some of the prewar stuff, the MBs, and maybe an Aurelia or BMW 501 or that Giulia SS
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,673
Yeah the white hatch is prolly a Pug 205, perhaps a GTI,
the Alfas are a red Guilietta Sprint Veloce (or GTV) and a white Giuilia Sprint Veloce the car behind the red Alfa looks more like a bumperless 356 than a Beetle to me. I'll take my dibs on those two Alfas! :shades:

With the Versa sedan in the lineup, they have too much overlap. And while Versa starts at a lower price, once they are equipped it's a wash.

Honestly, I don't see why Nissan has two cars in the compact segment (Versa is not a sub-compact, the back seat is bigger than the Sentra's).

Aha! That's what the Sentra reminded me of, a Saturn Ion. I personally don't like the looks of the new Sentra as iut looks really platicky for some reason, kinda cheap. I'll wait to see it at the Auto Show in March.

the only Sentras I liked were the early 90s models, as they had very nice and balanced styling to them, especially the 2 door SE-R.

Much preferred the styling of that over the '96 and even the current ones. And you're right, the Versa is larger inside. I really think it winds up filling the Sentra spot in the lineup

What Nissan calls an SE-R in 2007 is really what the old SE was: optional engine, 4-wheel disc brakes, nicer interior. Now you have to move up to the Spec V to get a manual and a tighter suspension, and even then the LSD is optional!

The SE-R is one of those cars that was done right straight out of that gate, then gradually subjected to a series of concessions that killed what made it fun in the first place.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
I cross-shopped one of those but ended up with a '91 Escort GT (Mazda powertrain, 127hp 1.8l DOHC). Almost as good but a lot less expensive.

The Nissan was a good 30% extra money back then. 140hp and a bit more torque, too. Upright styling was dorky but in a cool way.

That would put the Escort at $9250? My '92 SE-R was $11,850 plus $300 destination.

Ford Sierra Cosworth, mid 80s version. Similar to the Merkur XR4Ti (what a messed up name) that we got here, minus the Cosworth motor.

That "ducky wucky" grille looks very familiar but I've seen it on a sedan, not a "sports" car.....hmmmm.......so lets' see...it's European, not British....not Italian...maybe French or German looking at the wheels and windshield...early 60s?.....

    I give up....

You're gettin' warm Shifty, it's German, early 60's and similar in concept to the Karmann Ghia.

I owned a '91 SE in Red; I wanted to get the SE-R, but at the time, finances were tight and I couldn't pop for the extra $2K for the more powerful motor.

The SE was a blast, however. Best shifting 5-speed I ever owned. Even with 110 HP it had some go to it. Stripper model, however - no A/C, no power anything except mirrors (!), aftermarket stereo.
