You guys are on the right track. It's a '66 Corona Combi, I don't thin it was ever imported into the USA.

Our railways had to specify their intended gauge in the Act of Parliament that established each line, and once they got past the prototype stage, the first real railway as we would understand it was Stockton-Darlington of 1825. That was 4ft 8 1/2 inch guage, and when the same engineer built Liverpool - Manchester in 1829/30 they standardised on it, for most of mainland Britain. However, the genius Brunel, who built lines in Western England and South Wales, established a broad gauge of just over 7 foot ! This was a great technical success but wasn't built until the 1830's, and by then it was too late - most of britain went with standard gauge, and as we were the first country with railways, we exported the gauge too - most of Europe, (except Spain and Russia) - Japan - India - South America. I think the first railway engines in USA were made in England, or at least designed here, and that is where you got the gauge - Lincoln probably wanted to avoid the mess we had in the west...
Incidentally, Ireland - then part of the UK - went with 5'3" and that was also used in Spain, while in Austrailia, one bit was 4' 8 1/2, another state went 5' 3, and there was a bit with something else, too, so they didn't do joined up thinking everywhere....
It does mean that freight from England can go through the Channel Tunnel and most of the way across Europe, without break of gauge...

I thought this was meant to be a car group....!

The Bond Equipe roadster shown was known as the Equipe 2 litre, and the car in shot to the left is the 2 litre coupe, which was similar.
They did make a different car, called the Equipe GT4, but the body was a little more clumsy, and it had the 4 cylinder engine rather than the Vitesse six for the 2 litre.
I always liked the Bond 2 litre, it is quite a stylish thing for its day, and as it is all fibreglass with Triumph bits, it has survived in good numbers - they are quite common at car shows...

The taxis in this still are easy to identify, how
about the other cars in this hot from an obscure 1957 French movie.

The white one is a Citreon, DS5 or DS7 IIRC.

also a Citroen? I forget the designation, but I think they were built up through 1955 or 1956?

What's the little black car off to the left, visible between the two trucks? It almost looks like a '49-51 Ford with a DeSoto grille stuck on.

I never heard of a DS5 or 7 Juice, the ones
I'm familiar with are the DS19/21/23 and the low-end Citroen ID19 which is what I suspect the white taxi is.

Isn't that black taxi also a Citroen? I forget the designation, but I think they were built up through 1955 or 1956?

You bet that's one of the famous "Black Marias" from the Citroen Traction Avant family which was made from 1934 thru 1957. I suspect it's the smaller variant known in Britain as the Light 15.

It looks like a Ford because it is one. It's a French Ford (SAF) Vedette ca. 1951. Ford SAF was sold to Simca in the mid '50s. Interestingly Simca later became a MoPar subsidiary 1963-1970.

Speaking of Simca (the biggest French carmaker of the 1950's) I'm pretty sure the taxi visible in the back to the right is a mid 50's Simca Aronde while the car next to it is a Renault 4CV.

I can also make out the rear fender of a Renault Dauphine between the two Citroen taxis. Could that be the roof and fender of a Ponton Mercedes behind the white Citroen?

Last but not least the big truck is ID'd by IMCDB as a Hotchkiss. ;)

The grey car partially in shot in front of the white Citroen DS/ID19 taxi is a Simca Aronde, the early version, more rounded than the one they introduced in 1958.

The two tone car to the right, by the kerb, ahead of the two scooters is a Peugeot 203

In the middle distance just visible above the Renault 4cv/750 is a Cadillac, early 50's, can't see the model. I don't know what the large car in front of it is, as it is obscured by the scooter.

The Citroen Traction Avant is an 11CV Legere, I think, as it looks longer, while the grey car to the left, between the roof of the DS/ID and the truck is a short 11CV.

    Good call on the Vedette.

That's a 1974 AMC Ambassador wagon. 1974 was the last year of the Ambassador.
  • bumpybumpy Member Posts: 4,425
Yep, AMC redesigned it just in time for the Arab oil embargo to knock the floor out of the land barge market, and so the new-for-'74 Ambassador died after a 10-month production run.

I'm glad someone got around to it. The Triumph 1300 was the first FWD made by Triumph or Leyland (as opposed to British Leyland).

    You're right about the B&W Maserati too, it's a 1948.

Saw an s-Cargo at the weekend, and the Figaro is really quite common around here - there is a guy about a mile from here who imports them second-hand from Japan, and they are in daily use - parked next to one at the supermarket last week. Neither of these was imported when new of course...

Bingo! It's the new Spyker C12 Zagato, seen at Geneva this month.

It sure looks like an early 50's Ford, but there are too many chrome letters on the front of the hood to spell FORD. Also, seems to be a Canadian License plate, so I m stumped.

    Audi R8.

Love the carbon fiber section, and you can get body color if you want it painted.

Audi R8. I don't like the proportions, though. The midship V8 makes the back end too long.

    image

I think the NSX is about as big as a mid-engine car can get and still be aesthetically balanced.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
That's why I actually like the carbon fiber insert - it visually breaks up the rear of the car, so it doesn't look as big.

If it were all body color, it would look much worse.

I like it mostly because it is distinctive, and that's hard to come by nowadays.

  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,612
The car is basically a Lamborghini Gallardo... Doesn't that come with a V-10?

So, the proportions were basically set, when they designed that car.. The V-8 in the R8 didn't make it any longer..

If Ferrari can put a V-12 behind the driver.. then.. ?
