Hmmm. Looks like a Ford body shell with a Mercury front-end clip. Is it a 1950-51 Monarch - Canada's version of a Mercury?

That's the new Audi R8, named after their fabulous race car.
I think it looks better with an Italian suit on ;) >

    Looks like a 1949-50 Meteor(Canadian Ford).Nice ride.
  • lemkolemko Member Posts: 15,261
I'll guess again - is it a 1950 or '51 Meteor? It sure looks a lot like a Merc.

    Looks like a GAZ Pobeda
  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,234
GAZ Pobeida M20 - circa 1947 -56 -- this car was later the basis for the Warszawa.
  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,234
Thank you - wouldn't have guessed Spyker, the only one I've seen is the C8 - oh, and a couple of Veteran ones, which are very different...
  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,234
    Meteor - 1950 ?
  • boomchekboomchek Member Posts: 5,516
I didn't know Spyker had a new model out. The grey color, the aluminum top, and red interior just screams Spyker.

As for that Warszawa, yeah there were a ton of them in Poland especially in the 70s. Used as taxis and all.

I think they're more of a collectible in Poland than anything.

    Yes indeed, it's a 1950 Meteor Custom.

Boy, I really lead you guys astray on that one :) I've never heard a good explanation of why Big Three carmakers often (not always)used different make/model names for the Canadian market during the 50s and 60s. It's seems like a lot of uneccesary overhead to serve a market no larger than California.

Even more amazingly they re-engineered certain lines (e.g. Pontiacs with Chevy engines and shorter wheelbase Chevy chassis).

Why? Why? Why? Inquiring minds want to know. :confuse: :confuse:

We get the Suzuki Forenza, and that's a Chevy probably from Canada. Both are actually old Daihatsus that GM got when they acquired GM-DAT.

Not with that license plate. It's a Chevy Lacetti, and being RHD and driven way too hard is probably the one that Top Gear uses in their "celebrity hot lap" segment (I forget what they call it). The Lacetti is a rebadged Daewoo; Toyota controls Daihatsu.

Wow, correct on all counts Bumpy! The still is indeed from Top Gear, and the Chevy Lacetti is in fact a Daewoo design.

That's a SEAT, basically on the Golf/Rabbit platform IIRC.

Can't believe I mixed up Daewoo and Daihatsu. Gosh, haven't heard of the latter in a quite a while, eh?

    Remember this one?

Is that....could it be...OH, be still my beating heart.....a ROCKY?!! :)

True story--friend of mine owns a big auto parts store. He took in a Daihatsu as payoff on a parts debt from a deadbeat garage. He decided to use it as a parts runner car. He figures 3 month of use in the hands of his demo-derby drivers.

Well, it is STILL running three years later!!
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,673
Yep, it's a SEAT Altea. I think it's the one built on the Polo platform. IIRC, the Ibiza is the Golf clone.

    It's a 47 Cadillac.
    And it's a 60.
I'm not sure what the "last ride" and the partial vinyl roof mean. There's a different body style for a hearse...

The website I got it from bills it as a hearse, hard to tell from that angle.

There was a time I'd have been proud to go to my final rest in a GM product, but I dunno anymore....does Alfa Romeo make a hearse? I know they made ambulances, which is, after all, just a fast hearse.

Haha...I just saw that very ambulance yesterday at Fantasy Junction. No, it's a real Alfa, nothing VW about it. Sirens work.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,673

1960-62 Corvair wagon. Looks fancy enough to be a Lakewood.

Nope not a Lakewood, the dropped that name after '61 and sold the last of the wagons in '62 as Monzas.

Yup, that's a '62. I knew someone who had a '62 Monza coupe the same color that he bought new. A few months after he bought it they came out with the Spyder. He never recovered.

From about 1930 Alfa Romeo made buses, trucks, and a whole range of light vans etc, although the influence of Fiat steadily took over by the late 70's.
  • lemkolemko Member Posts: 15,261
...the Alfa Sud? I believe it came about as a socialist experiment to bring industry to poverty-stricken southern Italy. I heard it was a rather poorly-built car.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,673
Some time back I found an Italian Language website chock full of great stuff on Alfa trucks, vans and buses. I couldn't locate it today but I did find this>
