If you think that front end is better looking, then we do indeed need to talk ;)

It is indeed a Chyrsler Ghia 450SS, ca. mid
    1960s, I don't recall which MoPar V8 they used, probably a 273 or 318.

Bumpy's cars look awfully familiar, are they Escort-based
    rally homologation specials?

    Ford RS200 (based on Sierra)

Very, very loosely. The RS200 was a dedicated Group B rally car that Ford built enough of for homologation purposes. It used some bits and pieces from the Sierra parts bin, but was really its own car.

Ugly on a whole new level, too.

Call me shallow but not even a mother could love those looks, no matter how it performed.

The driver and the movie are well known, less so the correct
model name for the red convertible>

That's the car in The Graduate, so Dustin Hoffman, Alfa Duetto (I think also nicknamed a boat-tail or something) I believe.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,673
The full name for that model is Alfa Romeo 1600 Spider Duetto.

It was introduced in 1966, the year before The Graduate was released. The 1750 Spider Veloce with the flat tail replaced the Duetto in '69.

I'll bet that guy isn't Lemko either.

LOL, Dustin Hoffman and I were the same size back in the day, we both fit nicely into VWs and even better into Italian sports cars. :P

I'm not so good at these but I'll take a stab at it.

    55 Dodge Royal Lancer

    48 Chrysler

    54 Buick

GHIA: I like the front end without all the chrome and without the clunky headlights.

and looked at that Chinese Buick with the dude standing by it. I'm not gonna give it away, but I will say this much. You CAN get it in the United States. Or, at least, a rebadge of it!

Aha! Well beauty can only be an opinion after all. I like my furrin' cars to look furrin' and my 'merkin cars to look 'merkin. It bugs me when they mix that up. So that's my gripe. I felt that "my" version cleaned the car up a bit, that's about it. But I'm not entirely satisfied with my version either to be honest.
  • lemkolemko Member Posts: 15,261
Actually, my Dad drove a '55 Ninety-Eight convertible.

Here's a little trivia: Marx Toy Company made a pedal car that looked similar to a '59 Olds and called it a "Marxmobile."

It wasn't a clone of the Mitsu Stealth, rather it was a G body Chrysler, with the Chrysler Laser as the twin. The next generation of the G body was the Dodge Avenger.

The Mitsubishi 3000GT was cloned as the Dodge Stealth in '91.

    Dyna Panhard 750 - circa 1950
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,673
It looks like there are no takers for the faux Renault in post #9739. Here's a couple of clues:

    It's pre-1950 and it's French.

Actually, I'll revise my earlier response - This is a Panhard Dyna 120, or possibly a 130, and whilst they were on sale in Britain only from 1950, (the 130 from 1951), with both being phased out in 1953, they were initially on sale in France from late 1946.
The 120 had a 745cc alloy flat twin engine and crash gearbox (no synchromesh), but the 130 had 845cc with synchro...All front wheel drive of course, and the car had evolved from the immediate post-war Gregoire.
In Britain they offered 4 door saloon, 2 door cabriolet and an estate, but I can only recall seeing the saloon, and other than in European museums I haven't even seen one of those for years. They made about 45000, according to the book I've just looked up....
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,673
    It's a 1949 Dyna Z

I'm sure you've told us more about the Panhard Dyna than all of us put together knew.
Kinda cute isn't it? It's an exception to the rule that little cars shouldn't try to look like big ones. ;)

If this car had British plates I would say it was a Reliant Sabre 4, but it is instead the Sabra Sport (I think they also called it the Sussita, or something, but I'm not sure). It was developed by Reliant, who are of course better known for their 3-wheelers, in Britain in the early 60's, and assembled in Israel.
Reliant also developed a car for Turkey - the Anodol - and later a light van for assembly in Cyprus...
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,673
As usual, you're a font of information, Mag. I was unaware of the Reliant connection to the Sabra Sports.

The windshield and rear fenders look like they come from a Triumph Spitfire.

Pretty bad crash (one of many) from Jean Luc Godard's bizarre Week End (1967)

Motorcycle copgnoscenti may recognize the bike in this scene.

The tow truck is a Renault Colorale Prairie, 1950-7
Mini is probably a Cooper Mk1.
Don't know much about bikes, soI'm going to guess Triumph. (!)

"Ewwww.. Is that accident victim in two pieces?"

Naw, if you look at the left hand victim you can see her white shoes - her legs are folded under her. The right hand person has the upper portion covered by the coat.

Well, I'd never heard of the Dyna Z
  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,234
I answered the earlier post from work, but now I've had a chance to look up the Sabra, the old-fashioned way (books). Apparently although Reliant set it up the Sabra went into production before the Sabre in Uk, although it was the same basic design - indeed the first 100 were actually made in England by Reliant, and were exported including some to USA. Engine was a Ford Consul 1703cc 4 cyl. Don't know about the windscreen, but the British Sabre was later upgraded to the Sabre Six, and that led to the Scimitar a few years later.

There was a Sussita, but it was more like a 4wheeled Reliant, and that later evolved into a car you probably won't have seen called the Reliant Rebel.

Also I was wrong about Cyprus. Reliant developed cars in Turkey - Anadol - but the other nation that they set up a car plant in was Greece - Carmel Attica, apparently.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,673
You're right about the Renault. I couldn't tell what type of Mini that wreck is, Cooper Mk.I works for me. ;)
The bike is indeed a classic Triumph, a Thunderbird. IIRC they make a retro version of it now.

Good eye on the Citroen, Boomchek. It looks like some sort of ID/DS.

Apologies for the goriness of that scene, Week End was a very strange flick.
