    Silver Ghost?

Ah, the Porker 1er coupe. Theoretically, this is just the sort of car I love, but it's too heavy and too German for me. I'll just wait another 7 years and buy the Japanese version.

Well the 1er is definitely German but I'd bet anything it's lighter than any Nissan Skyline.

I wouldn't take that bet. The fatty Mcgee V6 Skylines weigh around 3300-3400 pounds, while the older I6s generally clocked in at the upper 2000s. The 1er is over 3000 pounds even in the boring versions.

MGA (Twin Cam version?) ca. 1959
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
Either a Twin Cam or a "deluxe" with those wheels. The "deluxe" is what they called the car after they decided not to put any more twin cam motors in them. By now we've all figured out how to make the Twin Cam not blow up but back in the day it was a big ugly under the hood there....nice car!

If it's a real Twin Cam, that's $40,000 bucks. If it's a deluxe, maybe $30K for a nice sharp car with no rust, no stories, no typical MG butchery done by previous owners.

924S, say 1987? That's the best color, of course.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,673
Close enough,it's an '88. IMO Black is the best color for the 924S.

You and Ferdinand Piech (sp?). That was his comment to C and D when the 944 came out. My ideal 944 was the red one, even though every car I've had since '81 has been black.
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
Yep $30K for an MGA that is sweet, clean, restored. It's SO HARD to find these cars un-messed with, and they are a devil to do rust repair upon---like Porsche in that respect. Oh you can find all kinds of cobbled up tired junk with shiny paint for $15K, but you wouldn't want it.
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
That's certainly not Morse's Jag. :shades:

Looks like a Fiesta to me.
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,565
I've got a friend with a '62 MGA... It's not a twin-cam, but he's had it 35 years, and restored it twice. It's all pretty well done... He has someone else do body/paint.

He drove it to Key West and back in May.. (2700 mile round-trip).

He thinks it is worth about $18K.. I'd think you'd have to get museum quality to see north of $25K around here. Though I am most decidedly not an expert.

I think $30K would be way out of the realm of sanity, even if it is the correct price. Just from a value standpoint.

Quality costs money that's true. He probably has a high #3 car if he's running it on long trips. I'm talking a #1 car, so there's a big difference in the standards we are discussing. I'm thinkin' that paint job alone on a #1 MGA is $12,000 bucks.
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,565
Well. yeah.. I can guarantee he didn't spend $12K to get his MGA painted.. :surprise: Probably more like $4K-$5K..

He goes to a lot of MG club get-togethers.. He keeps it nice, but he wants to drive it.

I can see why someone wants that much for their MGA. I'm baffled why anyone would pay it. But, then.. I've never wanted to collect cars. I would only buy a car to drive it.

Nothing looks better, IMHO, than a shiny black car but they are a [non-permissible content removed] to keep that way. You must be a glutton for punishment. :)
  • texasestexases Member Posts: 11,136
Either that or I'm not very good at keeping them shiny :P
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
Well I'm with you--I only drive cars I can drive, if you know what I mean. I have no problem whatsoever taking a vintage car and slamming it into a wall in a race...I don't WISH that but I'd be okay if it happened. The very thought of velvet ropes and "do not touch" signs on a car at a show amuses me greatly. It's the last thing I'd wish for a car's fate.

Hard to imagine, but it's even more plain/boring than a Fiesta! Something eastern European, maybe? Some kind of Skoda?

Mercedes C class, that must be the C350. Or is that the AMG model? Those tires are seriously low profile.
  • british_roverbritish_rover Member Posts: 8,502
I think that is the C63 AMG. I think the hood bulges are just for the AMG model.
  • texasestexases Member Posts: 11,136
Any thoughts on a compact car that the market now requires to have a 6.2l engine :surprise: ? Things seem a bit out of kilter.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
I was thinking the same thing. That's pretty much absurd. I won't even ask what it will weigh...
  • british_roverbritish_rover Member Posts: 8,502
And to keep the Mercedes hierarchy in order the 6.2 in the C63 will ONLY make 469 horsepower. What the hell 469 horsepower out of 6.2 liters what is that some lazy American V8?

The M3 will crush that car and the RS4 will vaporize it.

I like those fender lines. I'll guess 1973 but don't ask me why.
  • urnewsurnews Member Posts: 668
Rallye tires (red stripe) indicate mid-70s. Probably a 350 cubic inch engine.
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,565
    Not a '73..

    I'll guess '70 with a 454?

Chrome bumper on the front means pre-'73.

You're the closest I guess. Chrome bumper does mean pre-'73 and it's the biggest engine for the year as indicated by the big hump on the hood.

You're off by a couple of years, this is a '68 Roadster from the first year of C3 production and it sports the aluminum head 435Hp version of the incredible 427 Big Block.

    It's yours for $95,000! ;)

that would make it a '69 Trans Am. Only came in that color combo th efirst year.

Great article in this months issue of Automobile about a Trans Am rally. Something to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Smokey and the bandit.
