Why does this remind me of a circus or parades where there are unusual little cars driven by Shriners...

Or maybe seeing Dave Garroway with his head hanging part way out the window because he's too tall to fit--like when he drove the Morris vehicles around the studio on Today. Is that the right name? Some of the older posters here should remember.

I think you are right, the blue plates are from the 70s, and that movie took place in 1962 I believe.

I know today 'black plates' on a car are like a badge of honor there, meaning I guess that the car has been registered every year since it got the plates.
  • michaellnomichaellno Member Posts: 4,120
yeah, my dad's '70 Chevy pickup had the black plates for, gosh, 25 or 30 years. He finally got some new plates for it .. can't remember if they are the handicapped plates or vanity plates for him being a fire fighter.

Good grief, the Jaguar 'big' sedan (I don't think there was a small one at that time). I'll say a Mark IV.

What year would this beast be?
  • patpat Member Posts: 10,421
I'm going to say 1946, but if I'm right it's because I cheated.

That's correct, it's a 1946 Mk. IV, it was the small Jag....and the big one AFAIK. I don't think Jag made a "small" Sedan until the Mk.I came out a decade later. I don't know why the Mk. I came after the Mk.IV :confuse:.

Technically Jaguar made no such car as a Mark IV, and didnt' call it that, since they had no idea there would be a Mark V, and there was no Mark 1, II or III related to it. The fussy historian would call it "a 1946 Jaguar (whatever) liter saloon".

Kind of a nice slow car for the middle-class person.

The VW pictured is the new R32. The V6, AWD upgrade to the Golf/GTI/Rabbit.

Yup, it's a virtual twin to the Audi A3 Quattro/3.2 and not a whole lot cheaper.

I sure hope the new R32 sounds EXACTLY like the old one.

Best sounding car of the recent past! ;)

It is Italian (or should I say Italian/American) but it has a French name [clue]. ;)

DeTomaso Longchamp - late 70's early 80's - I'm guessing this is a later one.

    From Wikipedia:

"A total of 409 Longchamps were built (395 coupes and 14 spiders) until 1989, with only a couple per year built during the last years."

Taillights look like a '50s era Packard but I've never seen a Packard with a continental kit before.

'68 Firebird. Maybe a '67. If I could see the front end I could tell for sure. An old girlfriend had a '67 with the 400. Fun car.

It is a 1967. The 1968s had side market lights which were required by law.

80s Lancia, something that maybe came before the Thema as it looks more angular
  • karsickkarsick Member Posts: 312
Well, if you visually removed the trunk from the Lancia pictured, you'd have a car that was the basis for the most successful (WRC) rally car of all time, the Delta.

So, WITH a trunk, the car is known as the Prisma :confuse: .

I assume that, much like VW products, the hatch (Golf) was far more popular worldwide than its "trunked" sister (Jetta/Vento/Bora)

    1960s Austin Healey 3000? (Just a WAG)
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
It's got very big tires. I wonder if it's a fake.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Austin Healey is right, at least that's what the badge says.

If it helps, the engine sounded rough and raspy. Definitely didn't sound like a small 4 banger. More like an out-of-tune bigger engine of some sort.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,673
Karsick is right, it's a Lancia Prisma.

crap. Can't think of the exact name, but it is a little Alfa Romeo that's Zagato bodied. Oh now this is just going to tick me off that I don't remember...."Junior" maybe?
  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,234
Alfa Romeo Junior Zagato - 1970-73, or so. They made a 1300 nd a 1600, and the only way to distingush between them from this angle is the front bumper, which differs between the two models - but this one doesn't have a front bumper, so I don't know. Only other difference I can think of is the rear lights - also no use in this shot.
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
Sweet little cars. One interesting feature--you could open the hatch for ventilation.
