Facelifted first generation Excel, ca. 1992, but the Excel came to NA for MY 1986 (and Canada got the Hyundai Pony in 1983 I believe)
  • bumpybumpy Member Posts: 4,425
    Hyundai Excel, '89-90.

Edit: second gen was '91-94- different bodies along the same lines, and different engine.

For a while there I thought you might trick us with the short-lived Precis :P
  • hudsonthedoghudsonthedog Member Posts: 552
It's definitely not the first Hyundai. Hyundai was making cars years before they introduced the Excel to North America.

    Nice one Andy !

Citroen Bijou - 1960/61, and it is not a French model, it was instead unique to Britain. Citroen assembled cars in Slough before and after the war, until the late 60's. In 1959 the local plant commissioned a design for a fibre-glass two door body, to fit the 2CV, and this was the result. They built at least 50, I think but it weighed more than the standard 2CV, which only had a 425cc engine at that time, and the top speed when "The Motor" tested it in 1961 was about 45 mph. Also it cost more than a Mini or a Ford Anglia.
It actually looks better from the front than from this angle, but it was never going to set the sales charts alight. I think there are still several left on the road - when I saw one at a car show two years ago it had been upgraded to the 602cc engine which was fitted to later 2CV's and the owner said that gave about 65mph, but the acceleration would be measured with a calendar rather than a stop-watch...

1973? I'm guessing that because the site looks like a typical high desert canyon approach and maybe that's Evil Knevil scouting locations over on the Snake River for his jump in '74.

I swear I could recreate that shot in my Outback by driving about 20 minutes out of Boise. :P

A few of those canyons in this area are up to 4,000' deep and you don't have any idea until you stop the car and walk over to peer down.

Doesn't look like a Mustang to me but it's a mystery to me as to what it actually is.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,517
The Japanese Mustang, early Toyota Celica, bumpers are kinda big, so I will say ca. 1974-5
  • texasestexases Member Posts: 11,135
The 1973 (April '73 release, '74 MY?) Celica, just about a perfect 7/8 (3/4?) scale model of a '69 Mustang.

    It's a '76 Celica.

I had one of those! Really crapped out at the time (late 80's), and man was it rusty.

not my forte, but looks like an early 5 series.

A better test is the slice of yellow car. That is the front fender of an early 70's Opel Manta. Even has the black out hood.

Yep, it's a 520i ca. 1977. Interesting to note that Euro cops once used four cyl BMWs as police cars. Five series are used extensively by police in Europe and Britain.

I'm sure you're right about the Opel Manta.

  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,673
Nope not an Abarth but definitely Italian. ;)

Okay...not Abarth but Italian...let's reason this out....it's too pretty to be a Moretti....so....other obscure Italian....okay....let's look for tip offs.....roofline looks Abarth but it's not an Abarth...body is not too much of a clue because I can't see the front.

    Aha! The wheels look familiar.

Okay, my second guess based solely on the wheels is an OSCA!

One of the pics on page 5 has some nasty notice on it. If you guys have already discussed this, just show me what page number and I will look there.
Sorry if this is old news, just couldnt look through 500+ pages.

Oh yeah, another one of those ads for another site disguised as a "busted" notice.

Bob won't mind if I just kill it. *poof* :shades:

Pretty good guess then, Shifty. Those are exceptional wheels for a 1963 car, alloys I imagine. The car is a '63 OSCA GT Tipo 1600.

Well close enough, it's a Bentley Mulsanne ca. 1985,
could be a Turbo, caption did not state.
