    Mazda GLC (Great Little Car)

Yep, that's the car we knew as the GLC, the rest of the world called it the Mazda 323. The example shown is a UK car ca. 1977-'79.

I owned one of those, a 1977. The GLC (Great Little Car) also became "Great Lotta Car," in some advertising circles. We bought ours in August of 1976 -- metallic blue just like the one in the photo -- and kept it into the 1990s. It was a really great puddle jumper.

Yep, this car reflects the appearance of the typical Muscle car of the era with it's plain wheel covers, black vinyl top and whitewalls.

    Is it a Datsun 1200? Early 70s?
  • michaellnomichaellno Member Posts: 4,120
That, I believe, is the Datsun F10 from the early to mid 1970's. Datsun's first attempt at a FWD vehicle, IIRC.

I remember this only because Datsun was sponsor of the bullpen vehicles for the LA Dodgers when I was a kid, and they used one to bring in the relief pitchers during the games.

    B210?
  • texasestexases Member Posts: 11,136
It's related to the F10, but it's RHD, so it's not the one sold here. Also, it's much better looking than the ones we got. Was that called a Datsun 100 or an F10 Cherry?
The US got a hatchback and a wagonback, which have been nominated for top 10 ugliest cars at times. I wish I could find a good front view, it wasn't pretty:

When I was a little kid, I kind of liked the B210, with its fastback styling and honeycomb hubcaps. Even by then it was something of an old nail, but the styling somehow caught my eye. I remember I had a Tomy toy car of the B210 that replaced the mid-70s monstrosity.

You didn't mean to say that the B210 replaced the F10, did you? Because the B210 predated the F10, which made its debut around 1977/78. The F10 was replaced by the Datsun 310 which was, in turn, replaced by the Nissan Pulsar. The B210 was replaced by the 210 and then the Nissan Sentra.

This Datsun was sold here as the 120A coupe, from 1973 to about 75.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,528
I actually don't know their lineage over time, just that they are all somehow related, with similar styling.

I also remember the early 200SX ca. 1978, which had some weird proportions.

I think you're right on all counts. It was known as the "Cherry F10" in the JDM and other markets.

    K1500 Blazer probably a 1989 or 1988.

They aren't bad vehicles really and do great off-road with some simple mods.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,673
I believe the correct designation is K-5 Blazer, that one's an '85.

Zagato styling is an acquired taste but at it's best it's interesting.

    Here's a better look.

The cream colored car in the corner...

    A mid-70's Buick Riviera (1975?) :confuse:

    Langonda I am familiar with....

  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,528
Car in the middle is a Hudson Jet ca. 1954, car on the left is maybe a 53-54 Chevy, car on the right does appear to be an early 70s Riviera

To think that in the late 70's (as a kid) I considered those angular Lagonda's to be "cool"...

...Let's just say I suffered from aesthetic impairment in those days (and who didn't? :P )
  • seminole_kevseminole_kev Member Posts: 1,696
You guys made me question myself, so I had to go look it up. That old Aston Martin is a Lagonda Rapide. (not to be confused with the newer, angular Lagonda pictured further down). For some reason I thought they used the Rapide name on some models and the Lagonda name on others. However they must have used both names on the same model.
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
I hear tell those Lagonda's have a digital dashboard display that is unfixable if it breaks. That's interesting.
  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,234
The Lagonda Rapide was just that - at least at home. It wasn't sold here as an Aston Martin.
Lagonda was a seperate (and much longer established) make, although I imagine it would have been virtually unknown in many overseas markets so they may well have sold it to you guys as an Aston Martin Lagonda Rapide.
It was the last car sold as a Lagonda though - the later revivals of the name - a 4-door DBS and the later angular creation - were sold here as Aston Martin Lagonda.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,673
I don't think the Lagonda Rapide was ever sold here.

Lagonda Rapide is a model name of long-standing, it's a shame A-M didn't revive it for the new 4dr Rapide.

  • imidazol97imidazol97 Member Posts: 27,700
Right on. I failed to check on the year, but it's a swooping, beautiful Riviera.
    Exact year given next week.

    Hudson Jet--1953. Right.

Chev--1954. The chrome fairing behind the parking lamp is the cue that it's a 54 instead of 53.

    Most beautiful sedan ever.

Other sedans should bow when that drives by. It's no contest. Porsche for one should be ashamed.

Interesting to see how the Lagonda Rapide wasn't done nearly as well.
  • seminole_kevseminole_kev Member Posts: 1,696
I'll take a new Rapide and a Maserati Quattroporte please.
  • british_roverbritish_rover Member Posts: 8,502
Oh yeah the Quattroporte is a hot, hot sedan too. One of my clients has one in this deep, red wine color. His is one of the early ones so he has had problems with the duo-select/Cambiocorsa transmission. After a few software updates everything is much better but it is still a little jerky in traffic.

One part of me says to get the Cambiocorsa transaxle for the better weight distribution and the dry sump block but the other side says just get the regular automatic since it is a 100,000 dollar sedan not a race car.
